"I just don't know what I want!" Alice always had a good sense of humor, and his numbers reflected that. I never saw one of his live shows where he had himself "decapitated" but I heard they were epic. After the hub-bub over these shows, one of his next songs was "No More Mr. Nice Guy".

Yes Nicest Guy, but "don't tell anyone" was Frank Zappa's advice to him when Tabloid Paper's where printing "Alice Copper Scares Elderly Women To Death". Seated next to a women on a commercial flight they pass the time playing cards. Prior to arriving to their destination she thanks him and wished to take a nap. Flight ends and Alice is unable to wake her because she'd just passed away in her sleep. Not wanting to concern others, he stays seated until all have disembark waiting for authorities. This is when Alice calls his friend Frank to ask what he should do.

I was18 when this was on the radio. At that time Alice Cooper was the house band at the Eastown in Detroit. They played at least three weekends a month. I was there with a friend one afternoon. The band was just setting up and the theatre wasn't open yet for the show that night. I was just sitting there in an empty row watching the roadies set up when Alice Cooper walked over and sat next to me. He wasn't in makeup so he didn't look any different than me. He introduced himself as Vince and shook my hand. He then asked me if I played golf and if I knew my handicap. I said yes that I did occasionally. He wanted to know about different courses in the area that I had no clue about so after ten minutes of shooting the shit he shook my hand again and left. A few years later I was lying on the couch watching TV and a Pro-Am PGA golf tournament came on. There was Alice Cooper wearing red pants and a golf shirt playing on a two man team with a pro. The announcers were amazed and so was I when they said he was a scratch golfer with a zero handicap. He was as good as the pro. His team won the tournament and the big trophy went to him. Who knew?

Already mentioned here, but "School's Out", an absolute must, his staple all-time gem. The most fascinating aspect I've ever come across regarding Vincent was that his best friend was none other than the legendary Glen Campbell, golfing buddy and neighbors for decades. Two stage personas with an immeasurable chasm, yet forged by friendship and Christian faith. The interview Vincent (Alice) gave after Glen's death was a testament to Vincent's decency and has over 10 million views. Just a good man.

His early albums culminated in "The Alice Cooper Show" which condensed the best into their essence. That live version of 'Eighteen' is perfection, he makes it seem like a disease. It's more focused, the same for the other songs. My favorite Alice albums are "From the Inside" which is autobiographical (with help from Elton lyricist Bernie Taupin) and "Alice Cooper Goes to Hell" which is amusing. The ballads always hit.

Alice was in the third sesaon of the Muppet Show. I remember when it was on the Swedish telly in the 70s. Two years ago I got to subtitle translate a bunch of Muppet episodes for the Disney or Netflx release, and to my big delight one of the episodes I got was the one with Alice, and the cherry on the top was that the episode actually was much better than I remembered it. The only thing that could have been improved was basically to give Animal a more prominent display in the episode as he's my favorite mupp all time. That said, of the early Alice I actually like the longer tunes better, on the Eighten album you got Black Juju on the side 1, and on side 2 there's the suite Hallowed Be My Name, Second Coming and Ballad of Dwight Fry, a master piece sequence. Of the early Alice the 1st side of Killer with Be My Lover, Halo of Flies and Desperado, and second side Dead Babies and Killer is gold. From Schools Out the wonderfully dark Luney Tune which is another master piece, and the somewhat wsad autobiographical Alma Matter. Then we do have have several pieces on Welcome to My Nightmare (which I do not really count as an early album as that is after the original group broke up), with Devil's Food/Black Widow that contains the evilly wonderful monologue by Vincent Price (this was before Vincent Price lauged on Michael Jackson's Thriller) (sadly, I did not get the Muppet episode with Vincent Price) and the second side dark suite Years Ago/Stephen/The Awakening, which really was a lifesaver for me that summer when my dad passed away. And I know I recommended that suite a billion times before,, but what the hack, one time more won't kill anyone.

Most artists never score an "anthem", but this is Alice Cooper's second anthem. The first was School's Out. As for the Muppet Show, I'm old. I saw it when it was first run. Jim Henson took a lot of chances with that show and they worked. You might enjoy the documentary "Super Duper Alice Cooper" and "Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon" (who was his manager). Virtually 18 year old can relate to this song. As for the Sex Pistols, they were put together by a music promoter Speaking about how your list is going dry: Chris de Burgh . Listen either to The Leader (a mulit part song on Into The Light") or When Winter Comes, The Road to Freedom, and Snow Is Falling (from The Road to Freedom). Either of those will show you that he is so much more than The Lady in Red.

Everyone's mentioning "School's Out" here, and it's definitely a great rock anthem. One of the things that I've always loved about Alice Cooper, though, is that in addition to being a theatrical rock icon, he has often written *much smarter, more thoughtful lyrics* than many people give him credit for-- check out "Is It My Body?" from the same album as "I'm Eighteen." It has much more intelligent lyrics than many shock-rockers care to even try to write! Actually, to some extent, the same is true for "School's Out" too!

Schools Out- was blared over our high school loudspeakers the last day of school every year. Alice is just so much fun live and he did some really deep songs as well. Such an interesting guy. From the Inside, is an incredibly well crafted album written with Bernie Taupin of Elton John fame.

I just turned 60 and I still sing this song in Karaoke. When I sing it, I preface it with 'No guy ever truly grows out of this song.' I was waiting for your reaction when he sang I'm 18 and I LOVE IT. I was not disappointed.

Apparently when asked to be on the Muppet Show, Alice was confused and hesitant because he thought it was a children's show. He asked them to name some other guests they'd had and when they mentioned Vincent Price, he instantly said, "I'm in!" If you do go for the live versions, I recommend hitting one from the last five years or so. He still tours actively and has a great band behind him.

I've been lucky enough to see Alice live a couple times, and he's still as young at heart as ever. But for me, the special ingredient in early Alice Cooper albums is Dennis Dunaway's bass. He's such an expressive player, and wrote a terrific memoir a few years ago - one of the few musicians of that era who's not only still alive but can still remember what he was doing.

Wow, you're 18, Daniel? I would never have guessed that; although, I shouldn't be surprised because I have a 40yo Son who was a lot like you when he was 18! You are such an old soul, and you are so articulate in your communication to us! I was 15 when I saw Alice Cooper in concert on his "Love It to Death" tour in 1971 -- the same year "I'm 18" was released. It was a great concert. I grew up in the Detroit suburbs in the 70s. This was an anthem. No song captures the angst of being 18 like this. Remember that being 18 in Detroit in 1971 meant going off to war or working in a car factory. This was exactly who Alice Cooper was singing to. He said they knew they made it when CKLW played I’m 18.

I remember Alice Cooper on The Muppet show when I was young. He was strange looking it was odd to me, seeing someone not wholesome on a show about Muppets. He was scary with the goth like makeup. Whoever wrote the video notes for this song got Bob Ezrin's name wrong. It's Ezrin, E-Z-R-I-N, not Erzin. Bob Ezrin has long been considered the sixth member of the original Alice Cooper group, and he produced nearly all of the band's early albums. He also famously produced Kiss' Destroyer album as well as other albums by that group.

This song is ALWAYS on my workout music set. Even though it is not a fast song, it has such a grinding motion that I will get faster and workout harder and in spite of wearing headphones that are blasting as loud as they go, I am still singing out loud and I don't care if anybody doesn't appreciate it. Please, if you do any Alice Cooper live versions, make sure it's from the original Alice Cooper groupe frrom the early-mid seventies. The guitar player Michael Bruce, wrote or co-wrote almost all of their most famouse songs.The later live videos are like a self parody of Alice Cooper.

I used to be embarrrassed as an adult to admit that I liked Alice Cooper. I was 16 when the song was released and very much into the band. But the music holds up; 3 of the first 4 albums were great. When Alice went out on his own, he wasn't as good. The whole stage show never interested me.

He was magnetic, magnificent.
