Here is a description of my Alice pack Bug out Bag or 72 hour pack. I plan on buggin in, however you never know when you may have to leave your house for things such as wildfires, hazardous material spills, natural disasters or other man made disasters. I am always changing and upgrading my pack, contents and setups. I have used the Alice pack for years as well as many other packs, I keep returning to the Alice pack as my pack of choice due to its versatality.
I have slightly modified my pack to make it more comfortable by using the Molle II straps and hip belt. I have also added the Molle II Modular Sleep System Carrier for my sleeping gear.
I use this pack for other things as well such as for Civil Air Patrol extended missions, 2-5 day trips, and some overnight trips. Depending on what I will be doing is how I will load it out.

Good deal. Two notes about MREs, though. 1> You can save a lot of space on MREs if you remove the outer bag. 2> However, they do not store quite as long. Not important if you're already on the move, but the outer pouch does slightly increase the shelf-life.

Thanks for the comment. I too have a CFP90, that I used a few times and found it to be too big, and I bought a Blackhawk Patrol pack as well, but sold it to a friend because I didnt use it. I will however use the cfp90 in winter occassionally.

I'm wrapping up my freshman year of highschool and I've been using a ALICE pack to hold all of my gear so I don't waste time having to go to my locker which is on the third floor and most of my classes are on the first floor. the other reason why is because one of my MCJROTC buddies also uses one. you don't want to use the Japanese made ALICE pack cause they will just fall apart. so you're going to want to get the US made ones

I have a large ALICE pack. The guy from Mystery Ranch says they have one that is twice as big but it is $600. I got a waterproof liner for my ALICE PACK. I looked at a smaller Mystery Ranch and it was very well made, it appeared. My theory is fill it up, bug out and start shedding excess.

I took the assault pack off the CFP90 and placed it on my lg alice pack. this makes for a great scouting bag after you set up camp,Plus it gives Woodland Camo to the packs back. And of course the molle shoulder straps and kidney belt. Plus do a paracord grab handle double thick.

I started with the large, and found that I packed it way too full. So I down sized to the medium, made the small modifications and its much more comfortable, and I can still pack more stuff in it.

Those things are tough as hell. Used to live out of them for months at a time. My modern pack leaves a bit to be desired. That bitch "Alice", stands up on its butt making for easy access with the L frame and makes a decent chair back. The newer packs just roll and flop around like a dead fish. If you use it for a chair back or try and stand it upright it will either fall over or get mudded/sticker'd up in the wrong places. With a winter bag hanger the Alice is a bit more to struggle.

@LLschoolJ2 Yes as long as you dont overload them. I have used them for years for short backpacking trips. I would suggest getting some better straps and hip belt like I suggested in my other video.

The modifications are up to you. I made the mods because it was more comfortable and I use the pack for other things. If you use the pack for other things, I would suggest the modifications.

@irishgotee You can, however I have never done that. I put all of my stuff in plastic bags. They make a waterproof liner for the Alice packs. You can usually find them for a few dollars online.
@Skills2survive
@Skills2survive 13 жыл бұрын
@25foot Yes you can. Like I said, I have more than 72 hours of stuff in there. And you can go a week or longer depending on how you pack it.

@Skills2survive 14 жыл бұрын
@irishgotee WOW !!! $250 for a frame for an Alice Pack?? Thats ridiculous ! I would like to see that, do you have a link? The frame the pack comes with is ok, you can drill out the rivots and put in screws with locking washes and nuts and it holds up better. There also used to be some plastic type frames out there for them, but I dont think they make them anymore.

One thing you might want to add is x-lax (unless I missed it in the vid) 'cause those MREs will stop you up quick. Plus if you're an old gunney like myself, you HAVE to pack your daily meds also..........hell getting near 60, let me tell you. Thanks for the vid my friend, good info.
@Skills2survive

@nroc13 Medium is what I would go with, however the frame is the same size for the Medium and large. However if you are shorter, I wouldnt want to get the bigger pack and load it down only to find out that you cant carry it good. So i would go with the medium.
@Skills2survive
@Skills2survive 14 жыл бұрын
They attach just like the alice do. The alice pack has attachment points, you just feed the molle straps through the attachment point. The straps, sleep carrier and hip belt are a different story. They take a bit on rigging but will fit fine if done properly.

@ToastAndSausage I don't know about the alice pack featured in the video, but mine definitely isn't, assuming it ever was. That's why you're issued drysacks to stick inside the main compartment. I suppose you could also find smaller waterproof pouches to stick inside the three external compartments. You can somewhat improve the waterproofing of the pack itself by using the right Nikwax product on the outside of the pack, but it will eventually wear off after a while.
