I ordered the new straps and I also just got my Mollie II Sleep Ssystem Carrier. I'm about to hook it up. Thanks a lot for the awesome directional post. I'm going to test it out tonight and I will be sure to post a video response. Again, thanks a ton.

Good video man! A worthwhile investment would be getting the Pack shelf. It gives you so many options without a lot of extra weight.

Just got mine in the mail! Its brand spanking new still in the plastic! It didn't come with the cinch straps though. I had to recheck both the plastic and inside the carrier itself before I set everything up and they weren't in the bag. No big deal. I can probably find a loose set at a surplus store. I set mine up and now all I need is MOLLE shoulder straps. I used my MOLLE butt pack from the FLC that the army issued me as a spare compartment. Don't know why they never asked for it back, but that's on them. I attached that where the ALICE clip holders go just above the 3 outer pockets. Having the MSS carrier to hold sleeping bags, hammocks, etc. is a damn good idea. Frees up so much space in the main compartment. I tried the USMC ILBE rucksack. That sumbitch weighs nearly 10 pounds empty! Same issue with the army issued MOLLE ruck. It's too big for a Bug Out Bag, but they work great for camping and hiking if you don't mind carrying a lot of shit. The ALICE rucksack Hellcat is the best thing ever. Plus, the woodland camo ALICE ruck I bought is in pretty damn good condition. It still has the writing on the underside of the flap. I will say the MOLLE rucks are more durable and are highly water resistant if not water proof. MOLLE rucks can take a beating and not tear.

I agree.. The ILBE is nice but its heavy and big... Thanks for watching.

+Skills2Survive You're welcome. The Hellcat with all of the mods attached still weighs like 6 pounds less than the ILBE or MOLLE. Both of those are the exact same weight while the regular ALICE is 3.5 lbs. For added weather proofing, I put in a GI issued wet weather bag as a liner. That's what we did in the army for both the ALICE & MOLLE rucks. Works great! Plus, if you pack it right, the ALICE will float in water. So if you're out doing something on or near the water and it falls in, don't worry. It wont sink. Adding MOLLE sustainment pouches to the sides is a good idea. They're all highly water resistant. The SAW 100 and 200 round pouches and the main packs sustainment pouches will keep your gear dry for the most part. I only use the 100 round SAW pouches for now, but you can attach the giant sustainment pouches to the sides of the ALICE.

This was helpful. The MSS is big, and while it is a great piece of kit, getting it inside a pack or get it attached is difficult.

@MrLakewind2012 The sleep system carrier attaches to the bottom of the pack, it barely comes below the frame when loaded. Yes, I have worn it on several trips. It doesnt hang low like a butt pack, therefore it doesnt bounce. The large Alice should hold it as well.

@JHR1987 This is the Aluminum Alice frame that I am attaching the straps to. Personally, I don't mind the AL Frame, it has never given me any problems. Alot of problems come when you overload it and the rivots pop out, so some people just drill them out and replace them with screws.

@InTheSticks1881 It should handle the bags, it handles the MSS system just fine. Thats one of the things I like about it is I can detach it and use it seperately if needed.

when using an alice pack what is your opinion on the aluminum frame? would i be able to attach the molle 2 shoulder straps to the alice pack frame?
@Skills2survive
@Skills2survive 11 жыл бұрын
You have to use the straps that come with the MSS carrier. The Alice pack itself does not come with straps, but it does have attachment points on the bottom.

This may have been covered already, but if you mount the carrier up properly, does it hang down like a butt pack, or is it up against the frame, a bit higher up? I've inherited my late uncle's old ALICE pack and MOLLE gear, sleep system carrier included, and my main concern is it dangling down and potentially catching on something or smacking me in the ass as I'm romping thru the woods.

I got a belgian alice pack and it does not have those loops on the bottom end of the bag. They are tilted 90 degrees so the MSS straps cant go through it like they do in your video. Just so to let you people know. Jeff

Isn't there a top modular pouch you can add also to the Alice pack? I've got the sleep system carrier on mine already but thought there was a top one also.
@Skills2survive
@Skills2survive 8 жыл бұрын
+Oscar's Chop shop .. The Alice has a pouch built into the top lid, however there are some after market pouches that you can attach. I believe Tactical Tailor makes some longer ones that will fit on top.

@0122358 You could possibly run a belt through the loops and make it into a butt pack. I have not tried it though.

I’m not sure if/when you’ll ever see this comment but I just ordered the MSS carrier and am wondering if I can attach it to the bottom of my pack that has a single, thick row of molle? It’s 100d material bag. You think it could rip out though if I do this or is it meant to hold that weight?
@Skills2survive
@Skills2survive 5 жыл бұрын
It will probably fit. Depending on how much weight you put in it and how well the stitching is sewn on the molle, you should be fine

I like the setup you guys use for the sleep system. My question is, why do people use the mss carrier instead of this? Is there any advantage?

Skills2Survive I commented on the wrong video. I saw a guy use spaghetti straps to fasten the mss to his alice pack instead of using the mss carrier. Just wondering what the advantage of the carrier is over the spaghetti straps when using the mss?

Thanks man. Great video. However, my MSS carrier is different. It doesn't have those thicker fastex straps, but it has several horizontal and vertical compression straps. And mine doesn't have D' rings. My MSS carrier is huge when uncompressed! It is like 2.5x the size of yours. I don't know if I got the right one, or if the military had different models of MSS carriers at different time periods or what? Anyone with knowledge on this that can school me would be of great help. Thanks.
@Skills2survive
@Skills2survive 9 жыл бұрын
Simplemansnature It shouldnt be that big. Are you referring to the compression sack? Because, it has several horizontal and vertical compression straps. The Sleep carrier itself doesnt have that. There is a newer version of the MSS out, but its a little smaller.
@Simplemansnature
@Simplemansnature 9 жыл бұрын
Skills2Survive Yes. It is the compression sack then. And yes it is huge. I managed to mount the compression sack to my Down East, Inc. 1606 ALICE compatible polymer pack frame. And the compression sack, stuffed with all three sleeping bags (black bag, green bag and outer Gortex bag) weighed 9.2 lbs. when I weighed it with my digital bathroom scale! With the ALICE pack, frame, MOLLE II shoulder straps and kidney pad, and MSS compression sack with all three sleeping bags, the total (EMPTY) pack weight came to 16.3 lbs.! And the polymer frame is even supposed to be lighter than the aluminum ALICE frame. I think the extra padded MOLLE II shoulder straps and kidney pads were quite a bit heavier than the standard ALICE kidney pad and shoulder straps. I don't know how all three sleeping bags could possibly fit into a smaller sleep carrier, and you say that the newer version of the MSS carrier is even smaller??? Are you only supposed to put one sleeping bag into the carrier? So why then make both the compression sack and the carrier both? Is there something I'm missing or just don't understand here? Is the compression sack with all three sleeping bags supposed to go inside the carrier?
