As a 28 year old teenager who never *actually* learned how to properly grocery shop (growing up we just bought whatever was cheap and covered by coupons) this was SO helpful. Thank you Alison!

Shopping is the heart of cooking. I'm always amazed by cooking shows that say something like "This is the traditional ingredient but I used this substitute because that's what I had in the fridge". I don't have a magic fridge that produces random ingredients. There is literally nothing in there that I didn't go out and deliberately buy.

Grocery shopping is one of my favorite things! For honey... try to get local honey! It helps with allergies. I always buy soy/fish sauce at Japanese grocery stores or even H-Mart. They have better options. You should do a shopping trip video of Kalusthans!

The one counter tip…the go to brand for ACV is no longer Bragg! Look into the why…
@Sdority905Күн бұрын
Or how about you tell is why?
@tfromt.o.9774Күн бұрын
@ well since you asked… Bragg stayed in the family until 2019 when it was sold to a group of investors led by Swander Pace Capital and also including Dragoneer Investment Group. There is speculation that the apples being used (all or in part) are treated with that new Apeel protective coating. I can’t speak for other places, but where I live many health & wellness retailers have dropped Bragg ACV from their shelves or have lessened their stock in favour of other brands such as Filsinger’s (or Fairchild’s in the US).

Great job! My always ingredients when I go to the groch (I'm joking)... I mean the grocery store are. Romaine lettuce, purple onions (unless they have cheaper yellow or white), potatoes (any kind that are on sale), celery, tomatoes (usually Roma), peppers (any colors that are the cheapest), bananas, eggs, coffee, some sort of milk, a cottage cheese, sour cream or unsugared yogurt, beans, rice or quinoa, and always replace pantry items... pasta, canned tomatoes, ramen, etc... spices... etc... make a great pantry and always buy fresh veggies and fruits and you'll have great food at home anytime.

That’s true for many people but it is probably not true for her, so it would be a bit disingenuous for her to pretend it is or to feel guilty just because she can afford groceries. I’m also sure people don’t need a celebrity chef to tell them how to cut coupons or economize.

For spices - if there is a food co-op where you live, you may be able to buy only the amount of spice that you need (bring your own CLEAN, reusable glass bottle and tare the weight of the bottle). An alternative would be to go to a Sprouts if there is one close. You will have to use their small plastic bags, but again you only purchase the amount you need and reduce the amount you spend on the packaging. Transfer it into your own jars at home (I use 4 oz mason jelly jars).

Bragg was bought out by a Private Equity firm. The quality is no longer there; find an alternative. Kerrygold was tested and found to have PFAs. I'm fortunate in the PNW, we have Tillamook. Inflation, Alison, inflation. Pretty much every grocery item has increased in price.
