However, if you ask them about their view on Taiwan independence, the majority will fiercely argue against it. I met some of these people in Thailand after COVID. There was a small group of Chinese who kept to themselves at our hostel. One day I overheard them in Chinese repeatedly talking about my country Mexico which got me to talk with them. They were quite happy to learn I could speak Chinese but more excited to learn I was from Mexico. They started asking me a bunch of questions about crossing the border into the US to which I bluntly told them I had no idea about and discouraged it. I asked where they got these crazy ideas from and they said that people were posting videos and tutorials of how to cross into the US online. The Chinese government hard handed approach to COVID was what made them leave. They wanted to go both for the freedom and economic benefits but they had a very naive and overly optimistic view of the US. They saw the high wages US workers were making but had no idea as to the incredibly high living costs associated with living there. I tried explaining that there was a housing shortage and that their expectations for life in the US would set them for disappointment but they either didn't believe me or brushed off my criticism. I also tried encouraging them to go to German or Australia instead (places which I feel would be better and easier for them to enter) but they seemed dead set on just going to the US. Unfortunately I don't know where they are now as Wechat is blindly and constantly blocking and deleting accounts in SE Asia without reason🙄.

I have no sympathy for illegal immigrants. These people applied for their visas and were turned away for a reason. Instead of working to improve their chances by re-applying and proving their cases to immigration services, they decided to go the route with less waiting. Everyday thousands are waiting legally to join their spouses and families, but everyday that the US immigration system is flooded with illegal asylum visa applications, means more delays for those waiting to enter legally and have done their bit legally. I have no sympathy.

i am happy for those who deserved to be in America. They want freedom from evil government of that country. . I hope they will become loyal to America and not betray. . I know most of Chinese are hard working and it will benefit America's economy. But on my other side, i am against illigal immigrants for America's security and world's security. God may protect us all from evil. Spread love not hate.

They went there ‘illegally’ just because of difficulty on visa application. Freedom, come on, free to go and free to be back. Go to the Chinese embassy and tell them you lose your passport, then you can go back.

We aren't. We still welcome immigrants, but certain states do not allow them due to economic and safety concerns.

I don't think a good chunk of Americans like Asian people in-general, even if they're American or even a 20 year US veteran, like there was this ~20+ years of service US American Asian veteran as example, and if I remember right people tell him in his face like, "go back to your country," calling him slurs, giving him real dirty looks and whatnot, so when these Chinese ppl straight from China speak little to no English, don't understand much English, speak with a heavy accent, etc., they may get it bad in certain parts of America When the C virus was at its peak, there were plenty of people across the nation intentionally robbing, home invasion, punching Asian people, knocking them out and whatnot, a lot of h 8 against them I think Asians are probably the most discriminated people in America by all other Americans alongside Hispanics and Blacks

It would be interesting to hear the story of what happens to family members who stay behind in China and how they view those that left over time. The persistent grind of dealing with punishment by proxy must be heartbreaking too.

Not all are going to American for American dream, some are running from debt. There is another documentary made by CNA on this same issue. I am sure some are running to seek democracy and religious freedom but not all.
