Mary and Matthew were definitely meant for each other, they make me cry in so many scenes. It was so tragic what happened and I thought I would never get over it. But I have to say when Henry came along it was the first time since Matthew that I felt there was somebody who was suited to her. I think she put it very nicely when she said "I met my match" because he shares her wit seems to genuinely love her. I really like him too and I think they made a great choice there, although of course Mary and Matthew will not be forgotten.

No one compares to Matthew. It’s awkward to watch Mary and Henry’s scenes, because there is absolutely no chemistry between them. If Jullian Fellows couldn’t get creative enough to write a better love story for Mary after Matthew’s death, she should have remained single. It would have been more interesting to watch Mary reminiscing about Matthew than these boring scenes with her dull suitors.

I was surprised her relationship with Charles Blake fizzled. I suspect the cause was the actor having other commitments. I really liked Talbot when he and Mary were courting, but once they were married his character wasn't developed. Perhaps due to it being the final season. If they'd started with him being a successful businessman and his racing as hobby on the side there might have been more to do with him. Oh well, since the second movie sidelined him so Mary could act single again it seems unlikely he'll be around for the third.

Matthew excepted her and wanted to be her friend even when she acted stuck up and put up a wall for him. As someone else said on here Matthew wanted the best for her. @coffeebean87902 жыл бұрын
@@kpNov23 I seem to recall Edith helping out with the soldiers and caring for William on his deathbed in Season 2, both without any expectation of reward. I also saw her express concern for Ethel when Major Bryant was flirting dangerously with her that same season. I also recall her running after Mary to comfort her when Henry seemed to have been in a car crash in Season 6. Finally, the thing that made me firmly Team Edith was Edith returning for Mary and Henry's wedding even when Mary had not apologized to her for sabotaging her relationship with Bertie out of nothing but pure envy. A selfish person would not do any of those things unless there was something in it for them. I should also point out that while Edith's actions with the Drewes could have been handled infinitely better and with more tact, she did all of it not just out of a desire to protect her own reputation but Marigold's as well. If word had gotten out that Marigold was illegitimate, that little two year old girl would have become an outcast as well. Edith was also trying to figure out how she could protect her reputation and her child's and stay a part her child's life. There isn't anything self serving about wanting to stay a part of your child's life. While I agree that she could have been more sympathetic to Mrs. Drewe, the fact also remains that Edith only took Marigold back because she thought she was in real danger of losing Marigold for good, between Mr. Drewe bringing up the possibility of them moving to another estate and Violet and Rosamund's solution to the problem being to send Marigold away to some foreign school. Edith also didn't make the Drewes leave Yew Tree Farm. The show's timeline shows that Edith took Marigold back in the spring or summer of 1924, and the episode where the Drewes make preparations to leave is set in the spring of 1925. That means that Edith had no problem with the Drewes continuing to live on the Downton estate for about a year. We then see in that episode that it was really CORA who got the idea that the Drewes should be forced to leave after she notices that Mrs. Drewe has not gotten over losing Marigold. At no point in the episode do Cora and Robert ever discuss with Edith herself the possibility of making the Drewes leave. The only time Edith ever voices her opinion is after Mrs. Drewe kidnapped Marigold and Mr. Drewe said they would voluntarily leave. While I agree again that she could have been more sympathetic, the fact remains that her child was kidnapped.
