I’m a dentist....and I would like to address something you are doing that could damage your teeth. You mentioned you “brush”;your teeth after the vinegar and lemon juice. Vinegar and lemon juice will SOFTEN the teeth, so I wouldn’t recommend brushing after the juice. It would be much better to just rinse out after vinegar-lemon to remove the acid but don’t brush for 30 minutes!

First 7 weeks I lost 15lbs doing alternate day fasting.(BTW, I'm 70) I'm still going. 20 more lbs. Hang in there everyone and believe you can do it !! ADF is very helpful for food addicts, emotional eaters etc. Having to face food, what to eat and how much e-v-e-r-y-d-a-y is really a chore for people like us. It is a relief in many ways to just know, "I'm not eating today". When feeling discouraged I tell myself when fasting "this is the day that makes it all happen" and I know, THAT is the TRUTH.

I am no longer beating myself up about having something, if I need to. Also, there are times when I have broken my fast early, and I was okay with that. It’s a marathon, not a race. My body needs time to adjust, I have hormones, and sometimes I have stress. It’s okay to “take it slow” as you say. Thanks for the video.
@mikescott10294 жыл бұрын
Dr. Jason Fung was a great choice. He explains fasting so well. I'm a 77 year old male and have been on Atkins 22 years and have kept my 82 pounds off. I've decided to lose another 15 pounds because I'm older and don't need the weight. Carbs of any kind quickly increase my hunger. Bacon and eggs reduce my hunger by about 95%. I went on a two week fast and found it very satisfying. I believe this was the case because since fasting is the burning of ketones which is mostly fat. This doesn't seem to spike my insulin enough to create hunger. For me it seems to be far easier to remain on a fast for two weeks or more than the first two days on the fast. This tells me that I'm probably taking more than two days before really starting to burn ketones. This would probably depend on just how low my carb count was before starting my fast in the first place. All the best. (Mike Scott, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada)
@awake2truth5114 жыл бұрын
I'm wondering the same thing. I've done five day fasts with the first two days being the hardest. Alternative day fasts seems to mean doing the hardest days repeatedly. Wondering what the differences are for fat burning--and autophagy. Like you I'm very insulin resistant.

I have been concentrating on cutting the carbs intake. It worked for about 8lbs in 14 days, then I noticed my plane going into stall mode. Craving for a 2 sour dough muffins in the morning was the problem. Even with a reduced cal. carb intake it plays hell with results. Now no carbs from any bread and I am back on tract. My goal is 100 lbs. lose. What helps me mentally is looking a 80lbs bag of cement I have stored under cabinet where a dish washer used to be. I have been carrying one of those for 20 years unnecessarily. Hopefully I will use that bag of cement when I reach my 100 lbs. loss goal. Was your 2 week fast only with water? If anyone had told me a year ago that I'd be fasting now, I would have thought they were crazy. It was nowhere on my radar and the thought alone terrified me. But this journey is a process of learning what my body needs and what it will respond to. I began IF and it was helping just a little. (I am the slowest loser in the world!) Last week I had health issues and was worried I'd end up in the hospital needing emergency surgery. I began fasting "just in case." When the doc wanted to do a procedure, I had already fasted nearly 60 hours so I was ready. Now I know I can do it and it isn't scary at all. It's empowering! Thank you so much for sharing your journey. It encourages me, and I know lots of other people are encouraged as well.

I'm into body building and I've been doing Alt Day Fasting for about 2 years while cutting without even know it had a name. I just started doing it naturally after modifying the Lean Gains program. What I do is about 20000-25000 steps on my fasting days. This allows me to actually have some eating. All my needed protein, and a small dinner. I probably don't go over 500 calories on my 'fast' days. The fat really comes off very fast and the diet is so easy to stick to. You have eating days... and what I call 'mission' days with a very clear goal. I never deprive myself since I know the next day I will just be able to enjoy that tasty food within reason. I eat chocolate, pizza, pretty much anything I want as long as it is within my needed calories on my eating day.

I am curious to know how you are eating 500 Calories on your "Fasting" Days and still think you are fasting. Can you please clarify for the readers who are already incredibly confused with so many different professional opinions. During your fasting window (No Calories) are to be consumed. During you "Eating Window" which you are no longer "Fasting" you should be eating the proper amount of calories. Depending on what type of lifestyle choice you have made. Balanced Meals - Keto - Vegetarian - etc. What ever you have chosen to consume still has a particular "First Meal" or "Break-Fast" Meal that should be consumed to re introduce food back into your system - for Digestive and Insulin Purposes. During you "Eating Window" at "Non Fasting" times or on "Non Fasting" Days (depending on the length of your fast) You should make sure your eating enough "Calories" so your not storing it because your body thinks its starving but also not, but also to maintain you Metabolism. If you eat to "Few" of Calories during your "Eating Window" you metabolism will slow and "Fasting" the healthy way goes right out the door.

The 1st video I watched was with you and your mom. I was hooked after that because I felt like I could relate to your mom because of her age. I am 55 and need to lose some weight but didn't know how. After seeing her before photos and how amazing she looks now, inspired me. Just the way you spoke to each other about your weight loss journey, made me feel at last that I can do it too so I'm following you now and I'm starting with my IF and alternate fasting tomorrow. Thank you for being you and so open and honest.

Congrats on the success of your fat loss journey. I started ketovore and IF 18/6 last year February to date and so far lost 90 lbs. Now I stalled because my body is so used to my 18/6 OMAD so I started Alternative Day Fasting this week and decided to do Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday ADF schedule. This week just after the first day I was 2 lbs down. I have a lot more to lose but with research I found I needed to ADF to break my stall. I too read Dr. Jason Fung's book a what an eye opener on cracking the code of obesity. I feel empowered and finally in control. I enjoyed your video and will keep up with you. Thanks again for the information and encouragement and keep up the good work.

I have been keto for almost 5 years and currently do 2 meals a day. I usually go anywhere from 16:8 to 20:4 daily. My hubby and I used to do 60 hour fasts every month for about a year. We dropped that, but just did one for this year... I'm actually at 61 hours listening to this. I haven't seen you in a while, and you popped up this morning! Lol! I don't care how long anyone has done this (and I did it before, years ago, for health reasons, not weight loss), it is great to listen to others and get encouraged. You are great! 😊

I love this video and it was right on qui! I decided today that I would try to alternate day fast. I did some research about it and I had started intermittent fasting in January. I enjoy your video and I was not feeling well so I ate around 4:00. But I’m good now so I’ll work my way up. Thanks Jess! Forget the haters they haven’t figured out the key to happiness yet.

I have been doing Omad on the alternating day schedule instead of a full day fast. I can’t believe how much less I need to eat at mealtime. This is only my second week of this. I am getting so close to 50 lbs down and I am hoping this helps to get me there soon! As always, thanks for the inspiration!

Hi Jess, I watched few of your essential (to me) videos the past months. I am struggling with my weight, went up from 170 lbs to 210 lbs in a short amount of time. One thing we all need to learn is to accept ourselves. (Not the fact of being overweight) The "New Me" also needs to be accepted, and the new way of dieting is also part of self acceptance. You are doing a wonderful job! I am doing ADF too, I got some new fresh energy seeds from you. Thank you! You look fantastic!

Supposedly, taking in any protein/collagen while fasting slows down "autophagy" (apart from weight loss) because autophagy is triggered by the lack of protein. That may be useful info for people with chronic illnesses to heal. However, it does not completely stop autophagy of course. Meanwhile, whatever you are doing is working for you! Love the delivery, advice and energy! You look great already as well! Count me as a new subscriber! 👍

@ccallahan20034 жыл бұрын
Alan Salgado I have been hopeless but had to keep trying. I listened to The Obesity Code by Dr Jason Fung and was inspired to fast more. I have been on Keto diets before but never able to go into Ketosis until I started fasting. I then listened to Anyway You Can by Dr. Annette Bosworth. These have inspired me to keep my insulin down because it has been my number one problem for years. Conventional thoughts about dieting are completely wrong! I never would have been able to fast if I was eating a carb filled diet. I am taking my time but finally ready to kick it into gear and purposefully planning my fasting.

I am excited to hear this. Congrats I will be 45 in October and lost 55lbs just due to eating once per day but carb heavy. Gained back 10lbs so now doing keto mainly due to pain from arthritis and hip bursitis. I lost 50lbs low carb in my 20s but gained about 100lbs at one point. I am also hypothyroidism so it's extra hard for my body to lose

Wow! Way to go. I'm amazed u can sit at the dinner table like that. Fantastic. I get so triggered, just walking into the kitchen! U look fantastic. It's YOUR journey, but, I must say you're doing it right .Love Dr Fung and T. DeLauer. Yes, u can change the rules, like u said about adding something to your coffee. I had to start IF at only 13 hrs a day, cuz it's all I could do. Now my typical day is an 18 hour fast. I love your flexible mindset. I did IF for a year, fell off, gained 3 lbs.....looks like a huge difference! I'm now on the fast mimicking diet/day 3. I haven't been hungry at all. It's helping me get back into the swing of things. So happy to be back!

I agree that we think of food constantly and therefore , we eat all day, or snack all day. So people do this! I was one of those people. Food was always on my mind. I started yesterday just having my 3 meals and no snacking. I didn't think of food as much. I just let my stomach growl. What's that strange sound? Anyway, I am Type II Diabetic, and I watch the channel "Beat Diabetes". When I go low-carb every day, my fasting insulin is in the 70's and 80's. Sometimes, it dips too low, and I have to eat something. I'm on insulin and I have to be careful. My goal is to lose 100 lbs. and get OFF insulin. I cannot go without eating, because I'm constantly having to adjust my insulin dosage, but I can do intermittent fasting and eat within an 8 hour period. Keep up the good work!!! I love your channel and I think it won't be too long until you reach your goal weight. Just keep plugging away!

Thank you for unpacking ADF. Sharing ur practical and realistic approach to ADF intermittent fasting. I love that you are doing this w ur Dad and ur Family routine is not interrupted.. Wonderful tips for someone like myself that's also an emotional eater. And ADF is the tool I can use to "tell my body to start burning fat." vs eating 13-15 times sending a signal to store fat. You also cleared up all the crap out here about what breaks a fast. Now I feel so empowered by listening to ur video. ADF is doable and sustainable for me. Thank you

I believe you said your name is Jess. This is the first video I have seen of yours. I very much enjoy your honest, no-nonsense approach. You are genuine, and that is very refreshing now-a-days. I subscribed and turned on all notifications. As you can see in my profile pic, I went from 247 lbs to 184 lbs. with keto and 16 - 8 intermittent fasting. Now I have that good ol' stubborn belly fat pooch to get rid of, so I took a screen shot of your alternate day fasting schedule and I'm going to give it a shot. Thanks for what you do!

Definition of an expert - one who has achieved something difficult with a clearly defined process. You have ABSOLUTELY done that. Congrats on your journey. I'm hoping to incorporate this strategy, but curious on the intensity of any workout you do on your fasting days. Other than your walk, have you tried any weight training or cardio on your fasting days?

Girl you’re amazing and you’re inspiring. And yes that➡️ “do your own research & leave me alone” 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾. Love it! I love the way you think and 100 percent agree with everything you said. I just recently jumped back on my keto and have been doing 16-8 on a regular and occasionally 18 or 20 hrs i’m having some results but not what I’m looking for. It is harder for me being menopausal. One of the doctors I follow also suggested a more aggressive fasting especially for menopausal women. I don’t think I’ll have a problem with the schedule you’re on I’m going to give it a try. Wish me luck and keep being bad ass!
