The idea that someone who was born to a white millionaire father, lived in a mansion in privilege and has been an actor since she was a child, fawned over and sought after by a white woman for the main role in her little gay activist show - literally lived a privileged life at the hands of white people, and is actually oppressed, is just astounding. This is the really cringe aspect - it just sounds like she's whining because daddy only got her two ponies instead of the stables she asked for. Throw in the fact that she seems to think she is like a female Malcolm X when she is actually half-white and the ONLY reason she got the role is because of her skin colour ( a point which is irrefutable given Disney's hiring practices), and she ends up sounding like Marie Antoinette moaning about how her mountain of cakes only have double cream and pomegranates on them, while the proles starve outside the Palace Gates. It's not just the fact she has no idea how ghastly and privileged she is, she actually has the delusion, the sheer (if you will) f***ing hubris, to assume the position of the victimised and persecuted. It is beyond laughable - it is verging on mentally ill.

Brilliant, as always, sir. Also, Lesley Headland saying The Acolyte is the best piece of art she’s ever created is the funniest thing I’ve read in a long time. George Lucas created the art. You created an overly-expensive, self-indulgent fan fiction of that art. You want to attach your name to greatness without having any talent yourself, and the world can see right through it.
@UnitSe7en3 ай бұрын
It probably _is_ the best piece of "art" she's created in her life. I don't think she's lying. But she fails to realise she's speaking comparatively, not in absolute terms. Just because it's _her_ best piece of art, that doesn't make it good compared to any other art.

Amandala is an example of what happens when the participation trophy generation grows up. When they were children, their parents and teachers were obsessed with cultivating high self-esteem. They were never told "no" or criticised. Every crayon drawing they produced was praised and proudly displayed, as if it were a work of art. Any negativity from peers or society was dismissed as unproductive bullying or hate. These children managed to reach young adulthood without ever experiencing the pangs of rejection and the self-reflection that follows. They expect unconditional acceptance, becauae they are a special and unique snowflake with gifts to offer the world. If you are mean or critical or negative to them, then that reflects badly on you, not them. You are a hater or a bigot or a bully. If you are not those things, that opens up the possibility that THEY are a failure. And that is something they are not emotionally equipped to deal with.
@JamesBurrTV3 ай бұрын
Exactly - this is why they are so ghastly. She has literally never had to struggle to do anything and has never been rejected from anything. So when everything she has done throughout childhood has been "Brilliant!", why should she expect any different as an adult? She is so great after all, isn't it just natural thst she be asked to lead a multi-million TV show at 25? Isn't that just what happens to great geniuses like her? Meanwhile, she consciously ignores the nepo-baby contacts daddy has and the money he has invested in her through the years. Her white daddy, no less......

Adding a small detail to this iteration of the nauseating cycle, in the background of stenberg's verbal assault is a mural of the character Radio Raheem (in the Bed-Stuy tee-shirt). Three decades ago, Spike Lee endeavored to create a realistic portrayal of race relations in America in a ground zero setting, diverse Brooklyn, NYC. No matter what you think of Lee's politics or message, it would be hard to deny that he created a heartfelt piece of art with sympathetic and funny characters from all races. Today the iconography of this touchstone piece of art are used to prop up the fake racial conflict, manufactured by the largest media company on earth, and using as its avatar a wealthy nepobaby who has no ties to the often heartbreaking race relations in lower class urban neighborhoods Lee portrayed. A sensitive piece of independent art reduced to corporate propaganda.
@JamesBurrTV3 ай бұрын
Yes, they probably drove her in to that neighbourhood in a private car with personal security. It's all so cynically loathsome, like when Disney spout off about "tolerance" and "hate" yet filmed a movie just outside a uighur Concentration camp. Or when the Doctor Who producers had to film around the genocide of white farmers in South Africa because they wanted to make their aparthied episode about a system that ended 30 years ago. Inhuman, insufferable hypocrisy.

Here's a challenge for anyone who has, or is thinking of, taking over a long-established and beloved franchise, and using the established brand name as a platform to push a specific non-narrative agenda: how about writing and creating something ORIGINAL, of your OWN imagination, and use THAT as a platform for whatever agenda you wish to push - but - and here's the difficult bit - make the narrative of your own new creation so compelling, so absorbing, so GOOD that everyone wants to watch it, REGARDLESS of the agenda. I.E. focus on the story, characterization and basic believability of the narrative; the consistent, motivated and logical character actions; and an overall cohesive unfolding story that never jolts you out of its immersive world JUST to signpost an agenda item. You want to write a new story and populate it with black, female, transgender, 'fill in the blank' challenged characters? Fine - NONE of those character aspects interest me (which is exactly as it SHOULD be - we are ALL equal regardless of those aspects!) - but make THOSE characters compelling, likeable, consistent and you will have a guaranteed hit (I will likely be a fan) - rather than just lazily ruining everyone else's beloved brands and then accusing the ever-diminishing audience from your OWN paranoid sense of oppression just because we think your output is bad.

I was routing for The Little Mermaid to be the best live-action version when it was announced in 2016...then 2023 came and its release was a mediocre 'ok'- which was disappointing. Peter Pan was so bad it went direct to Disney+ a few months before...and then the Snow White conundrum happened, which must be Disney's biggest farce to date in its 100 years of existence! And then, the Star Wars & Marvel disappointment, after disappointment, after disappointment- until this ^ cherry on the cake! Disney you're a disappointment, and it's even sadder that you're more than ok with it!

Racial angle was never a point of critique of the Acolyte. Whole woke angle was more about gender / sex lines, not about race. Only exception was lack of white male younglings in Sols class.

If you're going to take a professional paycheck, you best prepare for some professional criticism. I think what really grinds the gears of some of the indulged pretenders and flakes is that somehow, for all their brilliance and eminently deserved millions, they're just not that smart, don't know their craft, and schlubs on teh internets have a point: in 101 different ways, they're just not that good.

Star wars is truly dead and it's amazing how they keep doing the same song and dance over and over again when people do not like the stuff they put out.

That "song" by Amandlashamadamadingdong was such a word salad that I think she could play Kamala "Heels Up" Harris in a biopic. She'd be a perfect fit! **giggity**

Honestly, she doesn't know how to act/perform well, how to sing or how to dance correctly. And she is still a star with many opportunities. Why is she complaining about everything ? She made my day. I laughed so much.

And today in "Amandla Summons Demons"... There is no way she managed in 72 hours to fly out to Brooklyn to film this, appropriate some hood culture, and then scuttle back to LA to finalize vocals, sound, edit, sync, load, prep lawyers, lodge copyright, etc etc. Not authentic. Whatever. If DIS fires her she can always get a job in the next Vikings series.

If Stenberg had hoped that ANYONE would take her little "diss track" seriously she might as well toss those hopes right out of the window;we fans have been subjected to worse (they've been talking death threats about SW Theory as of late),we're used to it at this point. The humor is that she actually thinks that she got under our skin,by gyrating wildly and "singing" in such a low voice she had to put subtitles in her video. 😂

Along with wokism becoming mainstream, the stereotype that all gay people are creative and thoughtful was solidified into a genuine urban myth. Somehow it was assumed that being gay is a substitute for hard work, humility, talent, and perseverance. Hire a gay writer and success is assured. Success is earned , not by your sexual orientation, but by the time and dedication you put into your work. I’m sure that the vast majority of gay people (adults) would agree. If a large majority of people, or even a small minority of people have comments about your work, you stand more to gain seeing if you can find some truth in the comments, and improve your work, than you do insulting everyone who doesn’t like it. Accepting constructive criticism is part of growing as person. If your work draws the wrong kind of attention to it, and you think it was genuinely your best effort and important to do, don’t apologize. But don’t blame those who didn’t see your effort as deserving praise. It’s goes with your chosen profession.

Wait. What were the identity politics in teh Obo-Wan show? I din't like the show myself probably the worst of all the Disney stuff but I don't remember identity politics being in that show. ASre you sure you are not liking Obi-Wan for the correct reason? Or is being a black female the definition of identity politics? How is that identity politics? PLEASE EXPLAIN!

I’m a casual SW fan just like I’m a cusaul fan of lots of action adventure movies. If you told me that the latest John Wick movie was changed to 10% action, mostly boring dialogue and dumb writing, and heavy handed LGBT messaging, I’d have the same reaction as 90% of others in my position. No thanks.
