I was out there in this same area August-December of last year and fell in love with it. Funny enough you were in my neck of the woods covering historic flooding in Western NC near Balsam Grove and Rosman at that time. When I left for AZ then, I was so sick of the rain! When we drove through OKC and near El Reno I couldn't help but keep yelling "We have Easterlies!", and of course, we drove through a big storm near El Reno. Arizona is probably one of my most favorite parts of the country. 1. Because it's so different than the wet, soggy, NC mountains I grew up in, and 2. I love the rock formations and geological treasures out there. I always try to figure out what type of processes created such beautiful wonders, weather being a major one.

As a 33-year Arizona resident and certified NWS Storm Spotter, I can confidently say that "Monsoon Season" (as defined by the NWS) runs from June 15 to Sept 30. The average "start" isn't until around the second week of July! So to say that it "peaks in mid-June" is TOTALLY INACCURATE". June 15 is EARLY for the start of the monsoon, which until a few years ago, wasn't "official" until there were 3 consecutive days where the dew point was over 55 degrees!

Majority of the water comes from rain coming down the Mogollon Rim if you as me. There are so many underground Springs that pop up into the Little Colorado River (LCR) from the rim. I’m from Leupp so I’ve witness it all the time. Raised in Grandfalls though, I’ve also seen the washes from the north side of the LCR live up to the term tributaries during these flash floods during monsoons. Good footage, and good hunting my friend. Stay safe and may the Holy Ones align your path most beautifully.

We used to have flash floods like that here in the California Desert. The Army Corps of Engineers fixed the flows years ago. In Palm Desert it wiped out so many homes with the water coming down the mountainside. There is a canal there that saves property these days. Palm Springs would get its fair share also. LaQuinta also. Thank you engineers for good work all over the place.
