Find a Cheap FX CPU Here: amzn.to/2hcxrQc
Welcome back to Tech YES City and today I am doing a nice and easy (although long) overclock tutorial for you guys on the FX series CPUs, I hope you enjoy it and if you have any questions please let me know!
Here are the programs you will need and I will also put in some optional programs as well. Also I HIGHLY recommend getting a custom CPU cooler if you are going to overclock.
Also please take the time to watch the whole video as I explain a lot throughout and it will give you a base understanding of what to do.
CPU Safe limits for the FX CPUs are : 62C for the Socket and 70C for the CPU itself, be careful however when overclocking!
Here are the links-
AIDA64 Download (CPUID/System Stability tester and temp sensor) - www.aida64.com/...
Optional - Prime95 - download.cnet.c...
Heroes of Newerth - www.heroesofne...
Also here is my RAM Ocing tutorial for those of you who want to Overclock your ram (, also keep in mind that I am using an MSI 990FX-GD65 motherboard and the CPU cooler is a Zalman CNPS14X with arctic silver applied.

To start, I would recommend looking at the JayzTwoCents video on FX 8350/8320 OC-ing, it is very good and useful. I have an 8320 on my ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 mobo and am using a Corsair H100i (with the stock H100i fans) and an EVGA 850w Certified 80 Bronze ATX power supply. Before OC-ing, I prime95 tested my stock configuration for 15min and my CPU ran at 3.8GHz. After OC-ing, I'm running stable at 4.825GHz. When I prime95 test my core temps rise to 62C for about 20sec until the Corsair waterblock catches up, then the temp rapidly drops to ~44C and remains there for the rest of the 1.5hr test (socket temp goes up to 80C then drops to 68C). Nice thing is that even when I am doing serious gaming my core temps average ~34C and socket temps average ~42C. I tried to get the CPU up to 4.9GHz, but as soon as I got to a voltage (1.5125v to 1.5375v) sufficient for a bus speed of 265MHz, the instant I started prime 95 the computer would freeze. So I think that, unless its my BIOS settings, the OC ceiling is right about 4.8GHz. Currently bus freq is 260MHz, cpu voltage is 1.488v.

Tech Yes City, Im new to overclocking and have looked at a lot of overclocking videos since I got my fx 8320 back in March. Many of them wasn't as detailed, clear, and concise as yours. I am using a gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 mobo. I followed your tutorial to get a 4.4 overclock. Been running prime for about a half hour now and so far, it seems stable with temps around 56c. One issue I had following some other videos, was that some of the cores would dip to 2.9 then back to 4.4. I knew that wasn't normal. With your settings, the cores were steady at 4.4. Thanks so much for this video. I gave you a definite thumbs up and you have a new subscriber!!

The 4.2 overlock worked just great for me on my 8320. used a msi 970a-g46 board and no issues so far. Definitely saw a frame increase in cpu-intensive games like the forza alpha or gtav. Doesnt ever seem to break 40 degrees on my h80i waterpump. If you're looking for a little push to help with upcoming next gen games while you're waiting for more 1070s or the 480 to come out, this is a great solution to tide you over.

still coming back to this in 2022 every time I get an FX chip in my shop. Client got hosed and spent $1k on an FX-8150 + GTX 770 system and came to me when the 500GB hard drive (the only disk in the system) failed. After an upgrade to a 1TB SSD, GTX 970, and 4.3GHz overclock, the system is running buttery smooth. Thanks for keeping these vids up

4.4ghz achieved on a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3 + 8320 - voltage only up 0.025v (1.424). Stressing with AIDA64 and I've only hit 40c once. Looks like I've won the silicon lottery! Before following the steps in this, I crashed a 4.3ghz and could only get 4ghz, so this is a great tutorial! Thanks so much for this.

Thanks, just got mine 8320 and msi 970 motherboard yesterday, assembled the whole PC today and I got everything OC (I left CPU on 3.8GHz, because of temperatures - Im just not comfortable with 60°C+ during stress test, but I will try again in summer to crank it up to as max as possible). I also got corsair vengeance RAMs, so I did exactly what you said to do. It runs perfect, no problems whatsoever. Again, thanks a lot. Best regards from Czech

Based on MSI 760G-P43(FX), setup: CPU volt. 1.4V, CPU-NB volt. 1.2125V, HT - 2600, CPU - 4400. Functions like cool'n'quiet etc. disabled as bios recommendation. Just wanted to say thanks for this great video! I had some ideas on how to overclock but could never really get it to work properly. Following this video, I've gotten my 8320E from it's stock speed of 3.2ghz to 4.5ghz and I still have a bit of head room. I'm at 1.46v on the cpu and only 54c on prime 95. I've only changed volts and multiplier. I haven't even touch the core clock yet and I might go up to 1.5v if the temps don't get too high. This is on the MSI 970 Gaming mobo. So far so good! Northbridge gets pretty hot on an overclock so I'll probably be getting a spot cooler because I have very little airflow right above the gpu. I also thought about seeing what's under there (never taken one off) and using some thermal paste if the option exists. My guess is that it uses the pads and the paste is a no go. But, you never know.

Something weird is happening, I've specifically set my core voltage to 1.4v and at idle it's at 1.416v and during the stress test I saw it jump up to 1.47v and I quickly ended it when I saw that. Also only the CPU temperature shows up on the sensor tab of Aida64 instead of showing all 8 cores and the window was acting strangely. I'm using an NZXT Kraken x61 with Arctic Silver 5 Thermal paste.

Hey, thanks for this tutorial. It really helps. I already OC'd my FX-8320 to 4.0GHz. It didn't require a voltage boost at all (which I am reluctant to introduce). Do you know if it's worth trying to up it to 4.2 GHz and whether it will require a voltage adjustment? Thanks for this video! I got my 8320 up to a stable oc at 4200. 4400 started pushing towards 60C so I didn't go higher than 4200. I have a case built for cooling and an aftermarket h20 cooler. Any thoughts? Also, mine won't ramp down to 1400 when not under load. It stays at 4200.

I have the Enermax Liqmax II 240, with quality thermal paste. I got my FX-8320@4.2GHz, ~1.33V, 2.6GHz NB and 2.6GHz HT speed. My MB is the MSI 970 Gaming. The thing is, I got around 47°C on Idle and up to 75°C under load. I saw midrange air CPU coolers which performed better. This is really frustrating.

if it isn't too late or if anyone has this problem, on my mobo (Asus m5a99fx pro r2.0) there's a memOK! button, press that and it will reset the bios and your pc will boot up to a screen where you can access the bios. If you save and restart you pc will be fine.

@Tech City Yes- First off your videos are awesome and have been a major contribution in my thirst for PC knowledge. I Have a MSI 970 gaming Motherboard and FX 8350 I can get to 4.4 and it's good to go for games MMORPGs etc, BUT trying to reach 4.5 the voltage drop is to extreme. Any Suggestions? Raising CPU voltage above the 1.45 you state in the video is max for the motherboard seems risky even though I have seen as high as 1.6volts from CPU-Z attempting to work through this. Power Supply is : Antec 850 watt high current 16gb of hyper furyx 1866 ram

+John Platt If the VRM is solid on the 970 and people around the web are reporting positive results then I dont see why not, also try raising the LLC (load line calibration) you can put that to a few notches above default and it should help.

+Tech YES City Thank you, I ended up with 4.5 ghz. CPU-Z shows 1.472 for core Voltage, Bios I had to give CPU voltage a +0.070000 offset to be able to run OCCT and Kombuster at the same time without errors so far. Tests been running for an hour going to let them run for at least another hour. The video is top shelf informative, and worth the time to watch it a few times

Great Tutorial! I have an MSI 990 FXA mobo, AMD FX-8320E and CORSAIR h105 cpu cooler. I'm going to apply most of the settings you have suggested. From the research I've done, there really isn't a big difference between the 8320 vs 8320E. The E version is just more efficient and stock clock is slightly slower. Any other suggestions anyone can offer? Should I worry about the voltage with that chip set? I am using this machine for 1080p gaming, someday I will make the jump to 4K.

MSI 970 GAMING what do you think?
@techyescity
@techyescity 9 жыл бұрын
just quickly looking at it, looks decent (6 + 2, so 6 phases dedicated to the CPU). I think you could take that up to 4.4ghz roughly and around your voltage you have now is about where I would leave it at (max that is).
@CIEK4WSKI
@CIEK4WSKI 9 жыл бұрын
Tech YES City "your voltage you have now" sorry but i dont understand u mean that 1.4v that u have in video or the stock voltage?
@techyescity
@techyescity 9 жыл бұрын
Oh sorry I meant 1.44v, I wouldn't really go over that, the board in this video has an 8+2 phase vrm, which is a bit better.

With cool n quiet on some game will throttle down on occasion. This can cause fps drops lag spikes or even crash. Most bench marks that are test overclocked with cool n quiet on are flawed. Cool n quiet is works properly at stock clocks it does not scale bus properly with over clocks.
