AMDs problem is no matter how good they are for consumers they need to convince the AIBs of the same. Why design a god CPU or GPU if all you get are crap mobos and GPU designs that go into budget laptops and desktops. Just remember boys and girls gamers are a very small fraction of the PC market, the market is enterprise, schools, government, banking, hospitals etc, places that replace thousands of units every year. AMD is on the up in the server space because intel fell behind, 2-3 gens won’t hurt Intel because that’s only one refresh cycle for the customer. Those customers are waiting for intel to come up with something competitive to switch back. It’s only a blip. Just because AMDs share price has gone up doesn’t mean all that cash is in their account, they haven’t had too many new share offerings and most of their float was bought at sub 10$/share. So traders have all that money - or potential for money.

AMD is just terrible at marketing. Like they could have a CPU that’s five times better than Intel, but the public won’t know that. They’ll have to find out from a tech tuber, which, for the masses is a slimmer chance for that to occur than the echo chamber of hardware nerds.
@MyrKnof
@MyrKnof 2 күн бұрын
@@imAgentR Its about word of mouth. They cant do much more than announce and sponsor stuff. To build a good connection in peoples minds you need consistent good performance and experiences over several generations. Thats why its slowly getting there on the CPU side. GPU is doomed, nvidia has too much money, resources and walled gardens (lame proprietary tech) for AMD to ever be truly competitive.

@@imAgentR its not just marketing, its the constant issues people face with amd products. All it takes is one major issue to dissuade a customer from buying. 7000 series gpus is a fucking shit show. Drivers just keep on falling on their own faces over and over again. Cpu's have massive failure rate on top skews. (worst part of the failure rate is most customers just thing amd is trash because well it was for them when they had a defective cpu) I have worked with amd many times to resolve issues, and what i can tell you is amd's issues comes from up top, they are simply understaffed to do what needs doing. They cant even manage the bare minimums let alone do anything extra for one off issues people might face because you know amd never tested X Y Z with A B C.
@radugrigoras
@radugrigoras 2 күн бұрын
@@imAgentR You can market all you want, the issue is WHO you are marketing to. They are currently marketing to gamers and talking all about performance. They need to be marketing to IT managers at all the top 500 companies, they need to be marketing to AIBs. When they do that right now all they have in their pocket is perf per watt. Reliability 0, support 0, remote admin support for firmware and bios updates etc 0. They were never able to beat those hurdles, so they went the console route. That’s where all their GPU sales numbers come from. CPU is mostly data centres. Straight to consumer sales are like 10% of their revenue. Gamers are in that 10%. The consumer is their Guinea pig. We test out their hardware, software, designs, features for free. Support? What support? Then a couple months later they take all that feedback and fix some of it and release an Epyc line or an Instinc GPU. Like Jufes said, they will never release anything industry shattering because they never take those risks, they are already risking a lot by even releasing a product in the first place- they have no idea if it will work or not, it’s all YOLO over there, even their prices they pull out of thin air at launch and then have to adjust.

Discreet GPU's are not a risk at all. AMD's drivers are atrociously bad. All intel has to do is have better drivers than AMD and they will immediately eat their entire market share and then start chipping away at nividia's market-share. Intel's gaming drivers are still trash but their productivity drivers are already miles ahead of AMD and they are even slightly better than nvidia in some programs. Most of the demand/pricing of nvidia GPU's is not even video games, its running CAD/video editing software. So even if a dedicated intel GPU was as bad as AMD in games for the next 10 years but it was equivalent to nvidia in prosumer applications it would still sell extremely well and make intel billions.

I am wondering about latency between 2 CCDs Exactly what you said, because cache is on both, but no monolithic cache The logic has been the same since 2 socket CPU motherboards. When you had x99 clone boards with two 12 core CPUs, or even 22 dual cores for 48 cores that can be a beast on paper, but you got that delay between 2 cpus, and literally running single cpu on same motherboard in many cases will get more FPS in games. Because CPUs need to communicate not just between each other, but between ram sticks too. Logic is basically the same with CCDs, you separate 2 things, you need a bridge and bridge is never faster than something on the same plane of the chip You require transfer speed, this is why when they moved IO from Intel chip resulted in greater latency in audio recording with chips like 12900k/13900k/14900k, while 9900k had better audio latency in recording equipment. Last chip that didn't move IO was 10900k AMD knows about the delay, they just don't care, because they understand most gamers have no clue what 1% or 0.1% lows are, they count average and max fps only. I was playing BF2042 other day and it was dipping into 30s because of bad Nvidia Game Ready Driver 555.99, and it was going from 270 to 30s, and that was unplayable after a while (and that is on RTX 4090). Went to 555.99 Studio Driver and all is fixed. The dips affect our perception of smoothness. I would take 220 FPS with no dips, than to have 350 fps with dips into 100s. We can always feel the difference in contrast. Very rarely we feel when fps is fluctuating between 300 and 250. The bigger the difference, the more you feel that dip.

I think that AMD making a consumer CPU with HBM is not a problem, the problem is the lack of memeory expansion on one side and how Windows would manage HBM and DDR5 on the other side 🤔 but if both managed to make it work with the HBM clock speed lowered to make it more efficient and lower latency with at least 250 - 300 Gbps it would be perfect.

If Threadripper PRO and HEDT consumer Threadripper, Zen 5 Shimada Peak, gets 3-D V Cache, it will utterly DOMINATE gaming for those who can get one. Intel will be nervous. Dear God… An AMD EPYC Turin Zen 5 3D VCache CPU, would easily crush Intel Xeon without 3D VCache added by Intel to the Xeon. Intel needs to consider 3D V-Cache in general for gaming. This "zero innovation" rant is so lame!. The industry is under pressure to make incremental improvements to keep greedy consumers happy, which is more important than major innovation. For sure AMD and Intel schedule releases of tech, withholding the current state of the art as a guarantee that they always have an improvement for next year. They try to make as much money as possible on one set of tooling before they re-tool a factory to produce something new...and there is little incentive for one company to massively out-pace the other. Basic business.

Not even remotely close. Just one of Intels foundries is larger than AMDs entire working force. Zen 5 X3D and Zen 5 are excellent, but Intel is about to strike hard with Lunar Lake and Panther Lake. Arrow Lake will be good, Intel 14th gen is better IMO. Intels 18th generation Core Ultra i9 Beast Lake processors will DOMINATE 2025 to 2026 with the RTX 5090, mark my words, Raptor Lake on literal steroids! Zen 6 will need to be ready by AMD by Beast Lakes release.

I was about to say but you said it "The IO is the same as Zen 2". The problem is AMD is enjoying the hype train when in reality they are not advancing. They are just milking the same trash can, let say they are becoming the same Skylake 14nm. Little changes but the SAME CHIP. I want to add to the list on why they wont take the risk. - Most AMD users are uneducated and spoon fed to believe it's the best with zero real life overlocking experience.

I really enjoy these kind of talks! I whish younger people understood the cpu business themselves instead of listening to medicore YT channels. Some of them even say that we dont need more compute. And in the next sentence they excuse themselves that they dont have time to play anymore. Guess what, that makes for a shit reviewer. You dont see the fps dipps/problems in certain games. Running benchmarks is nowhere close actual gameplay at high fps. None of them play high FPS games. Very few run more than 7000Mhz ram low latency on Intel systems. They're all outdated in their methology. Some started to show 0.1% lows buts its always with terrible ram and bad timings. Watching the big techtubers have become completely irrelewant at this point. I remember a time where pc was exciting and we got new experiences every gen, now its always miniscule 10-20%performance uptic in the lows. And AMD and Intel wonders why their sales are so bad.. The next big test of Intel will be their new cpu made on 3nm, Faverous tech, completely new architecture. Have Pat aimed for enough compute that we are willing to pay 1000usd for an Core 9 Ultra? I highly doubt it so it might flop..

@K31TH3R
@K31TH3R 2 күн бұрын
I don't know why people keep saying this. The only reason nVidia's 88% desktop GPU market share is impressive is because consoles GPUs aren't factored in to that statistic. If you factor in consoles, Radeon sold more dies just last year alone than nVidia has sold desktop GPUs over the last 5 years. Radeon IS the console market, so they're nowhere near finished. AMDs APUs are also in pretty much every current popular handheld, and will continue to be indefinitely, as AMD's APUs are on an entirely different level than any other solution due in part to Radeon iGPUs. Absolute worst case scenario is that Radeon discrete desktop GPUs transition to OEM only if their desktop GPU sales continue to flounder, or their focus shifts on deleting the low end discrete GPU market with more powerful APUs. But as long as their AIBs still have the very comfortable profit margins after die cost factoring compared to nVidia's exorbitantly priced dies, Radeon is here to stay.

Yeah, because waiting forever for intel to actually innovated worked out great. Who remembers when intel went into panic mode so much they release two sets of cpus to compete with ryzen on both fronts. I would rather have an upgrade path. Better for consumers and less cost for all consumers to get into pc gaming.
@jimmer411

Like how AMD renames a CPU from 2020 so they can claim even more longevity (5950X vs XT) on AM5? Or how they release a CPU for every miniscule price bracket (5700X3D, 5600X3D and 7900X3D for example) even tho nobody buys anything other than the 7800X3D and 7950X3D? Name 1 AMD GPU innovation that has become industry standard.

@jimmer411 There are no bad products, just bad prices. This mindset you have with cpus. I will tell you the best feeling from going from 1700x to 5900x was unlike anything I experienced in pc gaming. There is no need for a motherboard upgrade, and ram speed was better right out the gate. The price to upgrade was easy to deal with. Easy freesync won the battle. So much that amd allowed nvidia cards to work with freesync. Amd anti lag plus is better, and I hope they come out with driver one again. It worked so well in single-player games with frame generation. I loved getting 480 frames on dead space remake or last of us. Now, all we have is version for counterstrike 2. It will come back out again. They want to make it right.

In the CPU market Intel simply undercuts AMD in price by the TSMC performance margin add to take that margin gain in the channel selling at cost. AMD won't take the consumer market risk, AMD is broke, well under margin pressure currently, brand is not trustworthy well AMD from time to alienates their core consumer user base and users won't move to it, good observations. Intel would just take at margin away from AMD from an uber performance part it already happens in 3D and that happens in the wholesale trade before the part ever gets to the end buyer. mb

Rocket Lake was all about dumping on AMD at cost. Rocket Lake a waste of sand sucked a lot of financial capital out of producers (OEMs/ODMs) and the channel and that is why Intel followed through. But the channel did sell RL through and RL remains cheap even in its secondary life from the original price at cost sale its all relative. mb

Nintendo do make bold moves when it comes to their consoles, yes, but risks? No, not at all. Whenever they bet on something like the Wii or the Switch they used technologies well developed and ready to public usage, the innovation was the implementation, just that. They would never bet their financial future on a bet like Nijtendo VR with advanced capabilities, but whenever the technology is mature enough they'll surely will do something about it. The only time they really tried to push the boundaries was with the VR thing, and that was a poor product in every sense. In short: Nintendo does not put that much money on R&D, thats not taking risks, thats the opposite of taking risks. That's playing safe.
