I strongly believe many millions want Led Zeppelin back. Imagine 20 million people applying for their tickets for a venue of just 20,000 entering them in the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest selling concert artists of all time, beating even The Beatles.
@williamhiles74047 ай бұрын
That is a fact. And I've heard they surpassed the Beatles in LP sales also. I'd like to find out what the true world sales are for a number of bands from that day. LedHed Pb 207.20 🎶 🎸 🎹

I’m apparently one of the very few people who just don’t care for Led Zeppelin. I love Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones, but don’t like Robert at all. I think it goes back to a book I read that attributed 80% of their songs being rip-offs of old American Blues legends. They lost numerous lawsuits to back up that claim. I get that people are influenced by many others, and actually love and appreciate that. But to blatantly steal licks, rhythms, and entire songs is too much for me to get over. Maybe it’s an unfair take, but it always stuck with me. I like a few of their songs, but overall I could just live without them. We all have different tastes, and I’m a massive Rocker, but think they completely overrated. No ill-intent to you my friend, just explaining my take. Kindest regards.
@williamhiles74047 ай бұрын
Six songs is very far from 80%. And they were only successfully sued for three. And Stairway to Heaven was not one of the ones the plaintiff was successful at. The only rythym that could come close to your description would be Bring It On Home. Yes, I don't really care for Robert either, his penchant for 'borrowing' blues lyrics is what earned them that grief. But the Power Trio of Page, Bonham, & Jones is the best there was/is. And that, my friend is what I was talking about. And my DJ friend told me that they have indeed surpassed the Beatles in sales, a long time ago. He also said that of the streaming services, LZ stays about 48 million streams while the Beatles have dropped to a little over 11 million. I don't bear any ill will either. LedHed Pb 207.20 🎶 🎸 🎹

@@williamhiles7404 I totally see your point, my friend. At times, I even go against that old gut feeling of mine because the Music is just too good. My late Dad was a huge music buff as I am. I have over 380 Albums, mostly from the 70s, with plenty of 60s and some early 80s. He held the same feeling and it was actually his book I read, it was rather old, so maybe it was from the early 70s regarding their early work. I can’t recall nor find it, but the stats stayed with me thru the years. I do recall hearing the into to Taurus by the band Spirit and truly thought it was Stairway to Heaven for a minute. So, I’m sure that clinched it for me. As I stated, everyone is inspired by something or someone else, that’s just music. Maybe its time I grew up and did a deeper dive as I couldn’t really quantify my very old mentality today (I did turn 57 Tuesday, lol). I was just explaining the reason I could never hold them in high regards. Thanks for the input, clarifications, and non-argumentative conversation. Kindest Regards…

CCR was a band I really like went I was just a kid and I bought their album Green River and I played and played it. It was a really good album. I loved the Eagles and went to see them in concert as a teen. Great band but, dang they were so boring live. all they did was just stand and play. No interaction. No talk to the audience. No. movement. But, they still made great music. If I had to choose one bandy that I want back the most: Led Zeppelin. Oh, and They can keep then Carpenters and Bee Gees. Do not miss them at all.

Music taste today would not appreciate this music and would be ignored by mainstream music and media. The best compliment this music can have is it has stood up to the test of time. Much of the music of since early 90’s is forgotten and it should be. Led Zeppelin hasn’t put anything out since Coda and that was just unreleased music, but very few don’t appreciate their music over 40 years later and it continues to sell.

I wonder how many people on here were fortunate enough to see any of these bands in their original configuration. Most people have only seen the "Karaoke" versions or never had the chance to see them at all. The original groups were amazing to see and hear. Most were not worth the money to see once the original lineup was altered. Tickets were $5.50-7.50 to see Zeppelin, or Aerosmith,Black Sabbath, Bruce Springsteen was $5.50 at Berkeley community theater. Stevie Ray Vaughan played at the Keystone in Berkeley for one night only. Thats back when you could rest your arms on the stage and not act like a fool. You saw Robin Trower for 5.00 bucks at Winterland. Montrose when Sammy Hagar was the lead vocalist. Peter Frampton recorded Frampton comes alive at Winterland. I was 14? Or 15 back then. It was a great time to be a kid and have the abilities to get yourself from the Oakland hills to San Francisco and back home safely. You could always work for concert money and some pot. Sometimes a parent would drop us off and pick us up at 11:30. Thats how things worked in the 70's. You could get from the Oakland hills to Japan town ( That's where Winterland was) in San Francisco in 20 minutes. Now, we don't even look at San Francisco its such a disgusting mess. I'm happy I lived when I did and saw what I saw. All you younger people keep playing and listening to the old stuff. Its the best. Kanye, or Kiddy wok doesn't count as music.

I was born in 1953. I grew up with Elvis, Beatles, Cream, Who, Rolling Stones, Doors, Kinks, Beach Boys, Animals, Jeff Beck, all of the 60's bands in UK and US. ABB, AC/DC with Bon Scot, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Johnny Winter , Edgar Winter, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels, CSNY, Rush from the very beginning, Traffic, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, The Tubes, Pat Travers, Yes, ELP, Aerosmith, Journey, and Frank Zappa. I heard them all and saw most of them live. Then there was the 1980's with all of the hair metal bands. What an awesome decade starting off with the Police and Van Halen. Need I keep typing? Some great New Wave bands too - Men At Work, Duran Duran, etc. The only band I never got to see that I wanted to see was Jimi Hendrix and Duane Allman. Why did Jimi and Duane have to die.
@rodgerrodger18397 ай бұрын
@golfhound No, you don't have to keep typing! I was born in 58. We used to live at Winterland in San Francisco growing up. I was 14 when our parents dropped us off there. Back then, it was no big deal. Then, there was the Berkeley community theater, the Oakland Coliseum, Keystone Berkeley, where my friends played in the 80s. SRV played there. Joe Perry played there. John Mayall with Mick Taylor from the Stones played there. We saw CSN, Manassas. ZZ Top was an opening act back then for Steve Miller. Montrose with Sammy Hagar. There was another outdoor theater in Berkeley that was very cool. Christ, we saw Aerosmith, Link Ray, AL Demeola, Edgar Winter, and Robin Trower. Skinnnnnnerd. Three times before they died. Then the mighty Van Halen in the Oakland Coliseum. Eric Clapton, the slow hand tour. Yep! I could go on and on. Hell, I took my girlfriend to see Olivia Newton John. A great time to be alive.

IMHO, let's rethink this in terms of musicianship, songwriting, influence and staying power. First take away the obvious lightweights - Abba, The Bee Gees The Clash and The Ramones. They sold a lot of records over a short period but that was it. Then comes the pack in the middle (they rate higher than the bottom group but they really don't touch the top group) - The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Black Sabbath, Lynyrd Skynyrd, CCR, The Doors and The Carpenters. That leaves exactly TWO bands listed here with the musician chops and songwriting prowess to be worthy of such reincarnation - Led Zep and Pink Floyd.

So maybe reconsider that. Tell me of any other that has have success making new music in span of 60 years.
