The funny thing about this is that the lawyer tried to find a way around this confession and I personally believe Bateman did kill all those people except the chainsaw scene and this scene. The reason why I say this is because the lawyer told him (who he thought was Davis) that the joke he made about Bateman killing all those people was funny but in this scene he clearly called the lawyer saying "Hello Carns, its Bateman, Patrick Bateman". He clearly introduced himself. So it is pretty clear to me that the lawyer purposely tried to mistake Bateman for Davis to let him get away and not hand himself over as it would damage the company image.

Christian Bale is one helluva actor. His performance as Patrick Bateman is probably one of my all time favorite performances in a film. There are so many memorable moments in this film and this is one of them.

For those who haven’t read the novel, in this scene, Patrick actually lists some of the murders that took place in the book (in very very gruesome detail btw) that didn’t make it to the film.
@JMac73955 ай бұрын
I don't think Patrick was hallucinating his murders. I think they were real & in the end were cleaned up the the person he called. The realtor's reaction to Patrick when she realizes who he is confirms it. Everyone around Patrick knows there's something off about him. They choose to ignore & enable his behavior

1:36 - 1:46 This scene proves that Christian Bale can play a better Joker than Jared Leto's entire Joker performance in Suicide Squad. Heck, he might even do it better than Jack Nicholson, Mark Hamill and maybe even Heath Ledger. Why? Because not only was he creepy in this scene but he might have been even funny. The Joker in the Batman comics is both creepy and funny at the same time. Having said that, Christian Bale should have got an Emmy/award for his performance in this movie. After all, this his was best performance in a movie.

I wonder if they did this all in one take. They just gave Bale the scene, shot it once, saw the footage, and they were like, “this is all we need.” CAUSE BALE IS THAT GOOD OF AN ACTOR

True like when he mentions “some fagg*t with a dog” he may not be talking about the black homeless guy because I remember in the book he killed another guy with a dog and it was very disturbing details.

This is one of those films where its up to the audience if he really killed those people or not. I believe he really did kill Paul Allen, and all those girls. His lawyer at the end mistook him for Davis, and also THOUGHT he recently had dinner with Paul. In my interpretation, Patrick Bateman has two personalities. His "normal self" that he shows to the public, in which he has an obsession with fitting in with society and being just like everybody else. His "psychotic" side is his true personality which is a person who has turned insane from his over obsession with "fitting in" with society. In reality, Patrick hates himself for what he has become but knows he won't stop, which makes him hate himself even more. He takes this hate on everyone he believes deserves it. He preys on the poor/weak (because they are easy and do not belong in a working community) and people just as ignorant and self centered as he is (such as the prostitutes and his friend Elizabeth) He spared Jean because she represents everything he has always wanted to be. Someone who actually has dreams for the future, and has a passion in trying to become a better person. Which makes her stand out and unique from everyone in the society he lives in. Making her an "outsider" if you will.. He also ended up sparing Lewis (the gay guy) because he "in the last minute" showed Patrick who he really was, which is a homosexual. Someone who also would be considered an outsider from his society. So he basically targets random people he meets that he believes in his twisted mind are a plague to the possibility of a better society. The only events I believe didn't happen was him killing the old lady and the explosion of the police cars. At this point he has seriously lost his will to know reality from whatever is in his head.

also i think that he didnt kill Lewis b/c Lewis never mistook him for someone else which helped spare him from patricks pyscho side, and he was gay so patrick's shallow public personality was just disgusted by the whole situation.
@25aces7 жыл бұрын
If you read the book you will find that you are about 99% correct on your assumptions, very good. However, in the scene with Jean in his appartment, in the book it was just a prostitute, and if I remember correctly he actually did kill her with the nail gun.
@Elias62337 жыл бұрын
Doesn't explain how all the corpses in Paul Allen's apartment were gone.
@davidjohnson34337 жыл бұрын
I can give you one reason why the kills are real. In once scene in the movie, the scene where he has sex with those two women. The one that escapes runs, and when she's running she opens a closet and finds to two dead girls in it. Now throughout the movie you only are seeing Patrick's perspective. So when you don't see the girl in front of you, and only see what she's seeing means that you're seeing the perspective of not Patrick. Which means that she reacted to it as well. Now you might say, well Patrick might've imagined it. Well even more proof for you. A psychopath doesn't see or imagine this, because of how crazy they're it makes them want to see it. So it urges them on, and when they just can't take that feeling anymore they do it, because they want to see and feel what it's like for them to personally try it. So the body wouldn't need to, it wants them to. You can even look up stuff about psychopaths, and this is a true fact. Another thing I noticed you say is that he has two personalities. Every psychopath has two personalities. One of them is what you see on the outside, they don't want anyone else to see what they truly are. The other personality is when they just can't take it anymore, and just want to do what their mind tells them to do. So yes, you're correct. Patrick does kill his victims in the book and movie.

Should have gotten an Oscar för this role, this scene in particular. The wide spectrum of emotions, and it's effects, like sweating and gasping for breath, he displays in this one scene is mindblowing. Panic, angst, fear, pride, joy, desperation and the list goes on and on, is absolutely amazing.
