Just wanted to take a moment and thank ALL of you for the amazing out pouring of support from literally across the globe. It's incredible and my family and I are humbled and speechless. We did not know what to expect when putting this type of video out there. Nothing about this experience has been pleasant. Making this video and putting it out there I struggled with for days on what was the right thing to do. I was told by many to file a lawsuit, I was told by others that this will just blow over. But in my heart, whether it was right or wrong, I couldn't just sit there and let these individuals continue to tarnish my reputation over a lie. It all but killed me to stay quiet for as long as I have trying to "do the right thing" and not engage in BS. But it comes to a point that if you poke a bear long enough it's going to move. So whether posting this video was the right or wrong thing to do only time will tell but it felt like the right thing despite being very difficult to do. It's not fun being on trial and having to defend yourself in a public forum. It's even harder to do it and stay composed. But enough about me. This isn't about me anymore. It's always been about my family, my business and my customers. But, the best thing to come out of this whole ordeal is the response from all of you from everywhere and all walks of life. I am absolutely humbled by the response and never in my wildest dreams did I imagine so many of you to have so many unbelievably nice things to say. Like I said, I never did this for views. I was embarrassed to even have to film something like this. But with my wife and team by my side, they told me they believed in me and to do what I felt was the right thing to do. Again, it's so difficult to figure out what is the right thing to do in such a strange and fabricated situation as this that came out of left field and caught me completely off guard. I don't wish this BS on anyone. Again, the best thing that came out of it was each and every one of you who reached out publicly and privately to offer your love and support. It's very difficult for me to even comprehend what I did to deserve even 1% of the love and support I have received. I am truly humbled and honored to receive every single comment. My cup is completely overflowing and I just can't even put into words how appreciative I am and how much of a roller coaster ride it has been. All I can say is I have grown a lot from this experience and most importantly realize even more so how much more work I need to put in to even begin to deserve the level of love and support we have received. It's unbelievable and I want to keep pushing ahead to try to live up to your expectations of me. It's a challenging task no doubt but I will try my best. It's a very tall order but you all deserve everything I can give and more. I am forever grateful. Thank you so much. I am truly honored and blessed by your support. 🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️🫡🫡🫡🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲

Thank you for all the knowledge you give us. From what I have seen of you, you are an excellent human being and an excellent dog trainer. Do not allow the poisonous and ill-intentioned words of others to hurt you, you have created a beautiful family and your successful company. As we say in Mexico, when the dogs bark, It is because we are moving forward 😉 I have also seen the smear campaign against Augusto (Dog Daddy) and I can clearly see, that both smear campaigns stem from envy 🤷🏻‍♀️ that should make you guys proud of your hard work 💖🐶 Your human and canine clients need you.

From the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior "Reward-based techniques should be used for teaching common training skills as well as to address unwanted behaviors. The application of aversive methods - which, by definition, rely on application of force, pain, or emotional or physical discomfort - should not be used in canine training or for the treatment of behavioral disorders." "An appropriate trainer should avoid any use of training tools that involve pain (choke chains, prong collars, or electronic shock collars), intimidation (squirt bottles, shaker noise cans, compressed air cans, shouting, staring, or forceful manipulation such as “alpha rolls” or “dominance downs”), physical correction techniques (leash jerking, physical force), or flooding (“exposure”). " ALL the science says to use positive reinforcement and that positive punishment is harmful to the dog. The Guide elaborates on the techniques used on the show. The examples given in the kzbin.infoUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 are helpful and some of the techniques suggested very useful. One such technique/tool suggested was the lure stick to encourage a small dog to keep up with the heel command. I have a small dog who lags behind smelling any and everything and find it hard to keep bending over while walking to his level. The lure stick is great also for another dogs focus and sprinting at anything that catches her eye. The stories about different dogs, their different temperaments, have been helpful, especially Lulu's: After reading about Lulu's challenges I felt relief concerning one of my rescues that I have had for 10 years. Over many years I have checked out many training books from the library, watched different shows, DVDS, bought training books, taken lessons and this book is the best by far! Kindness, patience and perseverance works.

Retired PD K-9 officer and you handled that *exactly* as it should be. If a dog is trying to be dominate, you have to put them in a submissive position and leave them there until they are calm, no matter how long it takes. I have scars on my hands from one of my Malinuts and putting him in a submissive position was the only way to stop him from getting over excited and biting me. I had a dog park friend with a highly reactive (to having boys sniff her butt) Pitbull. He used his water bottle as an amygdala disruptor: he squirted water on the back of her head and gave a strong verbal correction. Then leashed her - within 2 weeks Ruby was more tolerant and the aggression was gone. A male would sniff her butt - she'd give a normal female 'get lost' growl then immediately look at her owner for approval. 😊 ever since, I've kept a tiny spray bottle in my bag & it's brilliant to distract fighting dogs, no one gets bloodied 😊

I figure you probably receive many of these comments, but to add onto that pile... You are a great dog trainer and dog owner teacher. My wife and I bought the puppy course of yours for our golden and we get literally, LITERALLY, 100+ compliments in the form of "you are so lucky" despite me spending 4-5 hours a day using YOUR techniques and listening to YOUR teachings. I have never owned a dog before and suddenly I guess I got "lucky" with my first dog(even though no one saw the countless hours of training and dealing with unlimited energy golden)... the only thing I got lucky with is finding your videos. This new modern world has watered down discipline and standards. Not to get to political, there are standards that we need to uphold in life and sometimes they aren't fun to do or to create, and the same for our animals. That is exactly what you teach. I am no professional. I am just a regular Canadian citizen with a border collie puppy (8 months old now but got him at 10 weeks). and when seeking help online, I stumbled across your short videos. and they were very helpful. I was able to train Milo from the very beginning starting with potty training, then crate training, and right into when he showed his first sign of resource guarding. And like you said, a puppy's mind is just like a piece of plastic that can be molded. I put a stop to it early and I haven't seen a sign of it since. He is nothing but a sweet happy dog who loves his ball, but also has no problem giving it up when I say playtime is over. Your videos taught me how to put my dog into a proper down/submissive position when washing him or even just checking him for ticks or anything of the nature. and because I did it early on, he cooperates like a champ every time. He is still young, so I have work that has to be done with him, but if it wasn't for your guidance online, I wouldn't have been able to train my puppy so correctly and efficiently these last few months. I am not an American citizen, but if I was. you would be my first stop if I ever had problems with him. Thank you for your help and I would encourage anybody who's having trouble with their dog, (Be its aggression issues or simple crate training issues) to go to you and your team for help and guidance. Thanks for the help. 🤜

To be fair, I have nothing against balance training. In fact, I switched over from the positive school to balance training, but Milo was the age of three and he’s been attacked by dogs on prong collars, and Ecollars put Milo on a long line with a harness or a flat collar has never once approached a dog without my verbal command to do so, and he can recall off of them at any given time I say so so it’s also very up to the owner how much work they want to put in it’s not the tool it’s the owner

It's so clear that those people have never seen a dog with reactivity or aggression issues 99% of the time. I know I took my GSD to some typical training when he was young and first getting reactive, and because he wasn't treat motivated, any barking issues were basically entirely unaddressed. Totally useless for the stuff that mattered. I've also heard someone talk about how you don't raise kids without some guard rails - same for dogs. If your child is about to do something dangerous, you're going to do what you have to in order to stop them. Same thing with a dog, but there's so much more danger to them in a lot of ways.

I used to have horses, and one of the things I wish I carried on into having my dogs was the mindset of working with horses. I have a 1,2 year old amstaff that went through a 7 month trainig with a local tranner and after that, I just ketp doing some basic exercises to keep her sharp. I found your channel a couple of days ago and man, I can tell you your method and tips have taken her training to another level specially with a cheap e collar I use. I have watched hundreds and hundreds of trainers here on KZbin, but you sir are a class act. I know it is hard for both you and family to deal with such hate and stupid people pointing the finger at you. Keep on going. The amount of people supporting you and sending positive vibes will neutralize those stupid people. A fan/friend from Brazil!!!

The fact that people actually believe that Garret could hurt a dog like that is just sickening. Over all the time I've spent watching your content, never have I thought for even a second that you didn’t know what you were doing. In fact, I've learned more from you than I ever thought I would!! I really hope, for your sake and your family's, that this whole thing subsides and gets dealt with soon. Some people, man... some people just upset me to my core.

Prong collars and e-collars are a fantastic tool if used right as it encompasses a wider range of desired correction. It can be small or big only if necessary but the idea is to not get there. It’s a lot easier than choke or slip. If used right with positive training the dog understands that when the treats are gone there is a negative consequence if there is a squirrel or an excited dog or something powerful that tries to make them break their attention on you. Keep doing what you are doing! 100% positive training alone does not work!

I just got a german shepherd puppy and one of my biggest worries was not delivering the proper training to him and ending up with a 100+ lb “loaded gun” as you mentioned. When I came across your channel, I instantly began to see how balanced training is not only ethical, it is my duty as a dog owner to practice it in order to give my dog a life worth living. Thank you for putting out the content that you put out! Let all the haters speak, they probably own Pomeranians that wouldn’t cause any real damage if left unchecked. Your service is very appreciated!

Very powerful video. I have been a dog trainer for almost 40 years. Way before the internet or social media. You are 1000% correct…training a severely aggressive dog is not pretty. I always used to equate to my clients that the dog was going to be going thru boot camp. “Knock down their ego, their interpretation of how they want to interact with the world so we can build them back up to be better creatures.” I love positive training but sometimes cuddly and letting the dog make his own decisions about training just isn’t going to cut it. You are again 1 million % correct that a few minutes of uncomfortableness is way better than dead. I don’t train aggressive dogs anymore ( too old) so appreciate those that can help these dogs. I applaud your integrity, honesty, and passion for setting the record straight. Thank you also for your 18+ years of service to the community.

As an ex-professional dog handler and agree sometimes extreme issues sometimes sadly needs extreme measures, I abhor dog abuse but you really cant take a dog with these issues already established and reward your way out of it. I always try and use positive reinforcement but sometimes a dog really needs to know what is unacceptable behavior.

Well said! It’s a tragedy of our social media world that this even happened. In 1994 I trained my first standard poodle with a prong collar, and in 2010 I trained my second standard with a prong. I learned from Cesar Milan how to do it properly. Both were 6 months old when we started and both were super excited when I put it on because it meant training and fun. They both developed into secure, loving, well trained, and balanced dogs for 14 years. I very much appreciate all the important info that Garrett provides in his videos and agree completely with his training philosophy. Thank you so much and cheers from 🇨🇦.

Don't ever change Garrett. I'm sorry for what you and your family are going through. I believe you made the right decision releasing this video and possibly taking legal action. This will NOT blow over. You HAVE to nip this in the bud. So thank you. I look forward to using these methods with my dog one day. I may even buy your courses. I respect you and the world needs these training methods. People are too soft.

As a fellow dog trainer (obedience, police k9, personal protection, sport, etc) I wanna say that you’re doing awesome things. People need to keep seeing the type of content you put out. I can never and will never understand how there are still people out there delusional enough to believe that all training can be accomplished by positive reinforcement. By definition you CANNOT decrease the likelihood of a undesired behavior by positively reinforcing that behavior. Keep your head up man and keep up the great work.

Yes yes yes!!! I learned that the hard way 😅 and feel like when it comes to aggressive dogs.. it’s a wholeeeeee other ballgame. This dude knows wtf he’s doing.. ain’t no doubt about it. And “positive reinforcement” is *NOT* enough when it comes to an animal that’s highly aggressive.

19:12 soooo true!! Reminds me of the tiktok/shorts guy.. I think his name is “dog daddy” or something lolol silly name but he takes on these extremely dangerous animals as well!! Cause say what you want.. that’s what they are. Extremely dangerous. To their owners, their household, other dogs, and quite frankly, the ENTIRE COMMUNITY as a whole!!! Imagine if that dog gets out!! LMAOOO 🤣 are you kidding me?! In the five years I’ve lived at the property I’m at, I lost count at TWENTY attacks my dog and I have experienced by loose dogs.. aggressive dogs need to be corrected IMMEDIATELY. Idc what you have to do.. how many trainers you need to contact to find someone who will take the job.. GET. IT. DONE. You’re risking so many lives with your negligence!!! And if you can’t do that, first of all.. shame on you in all honesty 🙃 don’t get a dog if you’re not in a proper financial position to properly care for it.. but in the one-off chance that there’s an excusable reason you’re unable to.. you better keep control of that animal as if it’s a WEAPON! That means locked up or secure leash/collar.. AT. ALL. TIMES. End of story. Ugh.. it infuriates me and I’m so grateful for people like him.. and any other trainer out here risking their own safety to take on these jobs and pups ♥️ they’re truly giving them a second chance at life. What if something happened to the owner where 911 needed to be called? And police had to come inside the home with a human-aggressive, highly dangerous animal??? Just look at body cam footage here on YT.. tragic things *can* and *do* happen when that scenario takes place 😔 it’s very sad for all involved. This guy is legit saving lives. Both human AND animal lives ♥️ many of them. It’s a ripple effect!
