This past Thanksgiving I got preapproved and then approved for the no fee Savor with Capital One or formally the Savor One. I have 2 Citi Custom Cashes and one is through product change from a Double Cash after a year. I have the Blue Cash Preferred which after a year will be downgraded to a Blue Cash Everyday, Venmo Visa. Even the Blue Cash Preferred is better than the Gold. I don't pass the $6000 cap at all. Especially with these other options I previously mentioed. Coupon fatigue is real and one year is more than enough on Gold. I downgraded back to Green. After a year, Green will be gone. I have the Blue Business Plus as previously mentioned to keep my points alive.

The gold card isn't for me. However, I'm planning on applying for the savor card. No annual fee. Great bonus $250 after spending $500 in 3 months. Great job on KZbin ♥️

Love the Savor Card, it's a great Gold alternative! Thank you for watching as always Vicki!

Did you ever get your Bonus from the savor card though?

Great video Matt! The Gold has certainly undergone a lot of changes over the past few years. It's still a great food earner, but I can't bring myself to pay $325 to try to earn back 3 monthly credits and a semi-annual credit, even if it brings me "net positive" monetary value. It has net negative time and stress value for me!
@MattWelterOfficial22 күн бұрын
Haha very fair Stan! The net negative time & stress value is priceless for sure 😂Appreciate you watching!

Closed my Gold card two months ago and don’t miss it. Doesn’t fit my lifestyle & coupon card extra work & headache is not worth it. It’s so therapeutic not dealing with the monthly credits. My Amex Blue Cash Everyday has replaced it for now.
@MattWelterOfficial22 күн бұрын
Haha very fair- definitely some peace of mind not having to worry about the Credits each month. If the Card doesn't fit your lifestyle, then I agree, no reason to continue to hold the Card. Thanks so much for watching Neno!

I got coupon fatigue after a year on Gold and downgraded back to Green this past August 15, 2024 and that was it. After a year, Green will be gone. I only have the Blue Cash Preferred which I will in less than a year downgrade back to the Blue Cash Everyday. I also have the no fee Savor aka Savor One, 2 Citi Custom Cashes that I can use one for groceries and one on dining. One was through product change from a Double Cash and a Venmo Visa for 3x on one category that I spend the most in like the Custom Cash with the 5x on your highest catgory that they list. I have a 2 cards like the Freedom Flex for dining at 3x and the Bilt and when it comes as a quarterly category, I have the Freedom Flex that I previously mentioned as well as a Discover It Cash back. I have the Blue Business Plus to keep my points safe. Bottom line, I have other options besides the Gold for dining and groceries.

Great video! I added the Amex Business Blue Plus to my Gold card a couple of months ago, thinking they would compliment each other, and so far, so good. Those MR points are really starting to add up!
@MattWelterOfficial22 күн бұрын
Thanks so much!! Both of those Cards are great MR Earners so hopefully you can use all of those accumulated points for a lot of outsized value!

I live in a small town in wyoming. When searching for resy restaurants in my area using the town name, no results came up. BUT!!! When I went to the map on resy and clicked the location icon it did show that I had one resy restaurant in my town. And I did get the credit when I dinned there.
@MattWelterOfficial12 күн бұрын
Nice that's awesome! Unfortunate that there's not a lot of options but cool to see that this Credit can still be used even if you don't live near a major city. Thank you for sharing!

@ My main reason for this card is getting a good travel card/ food with a certain transfer partner I had their credit card but the bank that ran it had bad customer service with no additional benefits from the card for the airline
@jordanginos955722 күн бұрын
I had something happen to me with the resy credit. I went to Twin Peaks to eat and watch football one Sunday paid with my gold card and a few days later I saw that the resy credit was applied to my statement. I looked on the app and it wasn’t listed there so a nice surprise I guess. 😁

Matt, What a great break down and a good approach to look at when it comes to AF cards. If the outsize value isn't there Organically than there's no point in getting the card. I would never be able to use the credits. Maybe the dunken credit or the Uber Credit for food delivery but than that is forced use of the card. I don't like having to force my self to spend somewhere i normally wouldn't spend. I just got the BCE card and that is my current workhorse card and the card for groceries and online shopping. I can't use it for Gas because Costco doesn't accept them. I am using my Cash plus card at costco for gas.

Nice video Matt, currently debating my next roadmap and the gold and eventually the platinum are cards I'm looking into. As much as I want the Gold it may just be a speed bump towards the platinum card, cancelling after a year.
@MattWelterOfficial21 күн бұрын
Thanks so much Eric! Yeah at the very minimum, it's always worth it to take advantage of the additional Y1 Value in terms of additional Amex MR Points. Excited to see how your CC Roadmap plays out next year!

Im in year 2 of my Gold card & still rocking it. Unless i can find another card that covers neighborhood market walmarts, im keeping it. Plus i live near 3 dunkin donuts. 2 of my wife’s favorite restaurants are resy restaurants & i love me a good bacon cheeseburger with A1 from 5 guys 😉😋

Nice update. I was considering the AmEx Gold to transfer reward pts to Hawaiian then to Alaska while that path is open. I wouldn't use any of the Gold credits, so it doesn't really make sense for me. I'll get the Savor and build Cap1 miles instead.
@MattWelterOfficial21 күн бұрын
Thanks so much Jeff! I'm actually also planning on going this route and funneling points over to Alaska! Tons of opportunities there. Thank you for watching!

I have 6 Amex cards and I’m definitely feeling credit burnout. Cancelling the green and Gold. Surprisingly the Plat has more credits but I find them easier to use. I think it’s just how the Gold credits are monthly which makes them annoying to utilize.
@MattWelterOfficial21 күн бұрын
Yeah the monthly Credits are tough, makes you really need to take a hands-on approach and always be conscious about it. Credit burnout is real when it comes to Amex Cards too. Thanks so much for watching!
@donaldrobertson574722 күн бұрын
My opinion is it's a lot easier to make a case to keep the card assuming already invested in excosystem ( Plat+gold), than it is to go out and get it (outside of the one year bonus pump and dump). The C1 Savor is just so much simpler that if you can get that, why go for the gold for only 1percent more on the multipliers.
@Sci-Fi_Fan29622 күн бұрын
It comes down to whether or not the math and your use case makes sense to keep the card after the 1st year.
@MattWelterOfficial22 күн бұрын
Agreed!
@MattWelterOfficial22 күн бұрын
Yeah it's definitely a fair point. Being already invested in the Amex ecosystem certainly makes it easier to justify the points being earned on the Gold. The C1 Savor is definitely a great alternative as well! Thanks for watching Donald!
@soapa427922 күн бұрын
I’d argue it’s not as simple as 3% vs 4% considering MR points can be worth much more especially to experts who know how to get the best out of transfer partners. But I agree for a vast majority of regular people, the Savor is better. (including me lol)
@robertjarrell727622 күн бұрын
You do know you can just add $7 monthly to your Dunkin card, which you can add free from the app? Also, I don't mind the card occasionally pushing me outside of my usual restaurants
@MattWelterOfficial22 күн бұрын
Definitely. I just think I don't go to Dunkin's enough for going the Gift Card Route to even be worth it for me personally but get that it's a good option for some people. Thanks so much for watching Robert!

Since I got the Altitude Reserve, and the fact I have the CSP and Savor One as well I really don't see a use case for this card anymore, I'm thinking of upgrading it to the plat and sock drawering it. I know December is the best time to get the Plat to double dip the credits but IDK if I should take the 50k offer.
@MattWelterOfficial21 күн бұрын
You are right that December is the best time to get the Platty to take advantage of double-dipping on the Credits! Understandable that the Savor One covers a lot of the same categories as the Amex Gold and it's a good alternative. The Altitude Reserve is a great earner as well of course. Appreciate you watching!

I can make use of all the credits and get positive net value but as you said, if it’s not organic it’s not worth it. I realized I’m spending $325 before getting the value out of it. I appreciate having less effort without it and I’m getting just about the same multipliers elsewhere.
@MattWelterOfficial21 күн бұрын
Yeah totally fair point. Important to understand what your lifestyle looked like before the Amex Gold Card, and make sure the Credits/Benefits are ones that you could organically use with your spending. Thank you for watching!
@Sci-Fi_Fan29622 күн бұрын
I realized several years ago that this card was not a good fit for me as a very active Costco shopper where I get the bulk of my groceries and I’m burned out of monthly coupon clipping. Cheers
@MattWelterOfficial22 күн бұрын
Totally fair! A bummer that Amex Cards can't be used at Costco and Statement Credit Burnout is real. Thanks so much for watching!
@dkcoan79222 күн бұрын
I’ve tired for one year, it was great. But with the change of the economy and no spending as much as I use. It is hard to justify, going usalt. I will miss the metal card I might get in the future. 325 for just 4x after first year is not worth it.
@MattWelterOfficial21 күн бұрын
Definitely fair if the Gold isn't moving the needle enough for you after Year 1. Appreciate you watching!
@SnazzySki9822 күн бұрын
I organically use the credits and since I live 10 minutes away from the only Dunkin within an hour of me that comes in clutch once a month. Even when I’m working on a SUB I use this card for all my groceries and dining unless Amex isn’t accepted in that case the WF Autograph will suffice now that I’m moving very quickly away from Chase (apart from prime I’m never cancelling that bad boy).
@MattWelterOfficial21 күн бұрын
That's awesome!! Seems like you are getting a ton of value from the Amex Gold. Thanks so much for watching!
@rodelmedia618422 күн бұрын
Unless you have good transfer partners thru Amex, savor > Amex gold. The gold was nerfed too much from the $250 version. No need to prepay an annual fee to eat.
@MattWelterOfficial21 күн бұрын
Yeah fair, the Savor Card is definitely a good alternative!
@DGreen-122 күн бұрын
The gold (and most Amex charge cards) just isn’t worth the high cost for me. The Resy credit is the only one I’d use organically. The rest would be forced spending. The Savor is a must better card for my needs and the 3% entertainment category is pretty underrated in my opinion.
@MattWelterOfficial21 күн бұрын
Yeah I do think that 3% entertainment category is pretty underrated as well. Good on you that you've been able to figure out what from your spending is forced & what is organic. Ultimately, the whole point of Credit Cards is to get ones that improve our lives via organic spending. Thanks so much for watching!

If you spend 30k on groceries n 5k on dining out. is this card worth it?
@MattWelterOfficial21 күн бұрын
You'd be earning 140k Amex MR Points, so that would give you upwards of $1400+ in value per year just from the multipliers!
@docsays20 күн бұрын
- definitely! I use my gold card mostly for groceries since i have a ton of other cards that offer dining
@L-Man-Gaming15 күн бұрын
I think you will eventually come around and not see the value of the Gold card. I love it, I love Amex, I love the multipliers, but the numbers never make sense, and that sucks! And sucks even more when you realize there is no real alternative, I don’t count the Savor because you technically need the Venture X. I don’t blame people for keeping the Gold, but it definitely got worse and that’s even if the Credits fit your lifestyle.
@Polo1928-v2e22 күн бұрын
If the Amex platinum only gave the old 200 incidental credit and nothing else it would not really be worth 695 per year. At one time that is all you got.
