I find it strange that anyone would question your reasons for having to put down one of your animals. From what I have seen on your videos, you both love your animals and treat them so humanly. I am sure this has been very difficult for all of you. Sending hugs

This has been the saddest week I've ever been on you tube. All day yesterday I was crying after watching Heather from the Kneady Homesteader, who was in a horrific head on crash with a drunk driver. Her husband was killed instantly and she and her kids were injured, her very seriously. She will be in rehab a long time. Now, today, you post this sad news about Hope. Although it doesn't compare with Heather, I see how sad you both are. But please pray for Heather and her family.

Kevin and Sarah, my heart goes out to you! We had this happen with our cats. Peach went into kidney failure and the Dr said he only had about 3 months left to live. However, his actions said different. So, we let him decide. He pushed through it and got back into his old playful self for 4 more years. The next round though, he began to hide, and when we could get him out, he was still loving, but you knew he was suffering. We knew then it was time. What we were not expecting, was his sister, Bug to react the way she did. Even though they were 16 years old, she was a jolly happy cat, who most of the time thought she was 3...lol. Her first night without Peach she seemed sad, but the days following she just began to wail and wail. She would only stop out of exhaustion or if we kept holding her. After a few days, she suddenly started having trouble breathing. We rushed her to the ER vet and the Dr asked, what kind of trauma has this cat gone through? We said nothing, she hasn't been injured, that we know of, and then the Vet asked- any emotional trauma? We said well, her brother passed away almost 2 weeks ago. She explained that in some cats, feline Leukemia will stay dormant their whole life, but trauma could trigger it, quickly. After she told us all of the things that Bug would have to go through and the pain that she would suffer for the treatments, we understood that this would not fix her emotional pain and did the hard thing. I know what you are feeling! I even went though a few days of-I should have done this..or that. It was my youngest son-who Peach and Bug actually belonged to said...Mother-she missed Peach, nothing we could ever do would change that. She needed to be released from her pain of missing him. So, Sarah-Kevin...She was a tired old girl. She was a cow- but she let you know she loved you, and she gave you everything she could as you did for her!! Let that peace be your joy when you think about Hope.

Farm life realities can be brutal. We want our animals to have the best life possible despite raising them for food and livelihood. You made the best decision you could. Sorry for your loss. Kevin and Sarah I am so sorry. When I saw this, tears started. Being a fellow homesteader I know what you are going through. We also have a Jersey cow named Blossom and we have the same relationship with her. I know you did everything you could because I see what your animals mean to you. At times we too have had these agonizing decisions to make and you try everything, until you know there is only one outcome. That is the time that you reach deep in your soul and try to make the right decision. When your fight for life changes to mercy. There have been times when we have fallen to our knees with the pain of those decisions but God is always here to bring us to the other side. Time heals the hurt, good memories replace the sadness and life on the homestead moves forward. Under Gods heaven, each animal has its season and all we can do is live in the moments of those seasons. Much love coming your way from Back Acres Farm in Nebraska. I wanted to add how much I appreciate your courageous sharing of your lives with all of us. In doing so you open yourselves up not only for positive feedback and support but also criticism and I’m sure more advise than you know what to do with at times. The raw very new grief that you showed us today was heart wrenching. It doesn’t get more honest than that. God be with you in the days to come.

Sorry for your loss. We do love our animals both great and small. It’s wise to have your vet check out and clear animal purchases. Not doing that could result in a contagion being brought to your farm and that is devastating. Lesson learned the hard way because we were trusting and ignorant. Blessings.

Yes, unfortunately those are my thoughts also. Hudson was exposed to a big farming operation and when he was brought to their farm, he introduced a host of new pathogens maybe particularly at the utter first and to Henry with a weaker immune system... it’s like the early European settlers and the Native Americans. Maybe the best move would have been to isolate Hudson for a while when he was purchased and bottle feed him Hope’s milk while trying to sanitize him and put Hope’s smell on him with towels? Very devastating to have lost Hope and her baby. So very sorry, sending you prayers. May Jesus keep you in His perfect peace, this may be a huge learning experience that saves thousands of baby cows in the future. Thank you for letting us learn and grow with you. 💕🌈 🐄 🙏 ✝️

I’m so sorry for your loss of Hope. She was such a sweet cow. Prayers you are able to find another good milking cow who will be just as sweet and gentle.
