Okay just thought to leave my opinion here. Honestly sri lanka is left with at least this many tuskers is because of this cultural event. Because Sri Lanka isn't left with much spacious and safe forests for tuskers and elephants. And even though people did raise a little voice when willpattuwa was damaged did legal actions really take place or at least did any try to plant forests back? NO. People who is putting animal cruelty blah blah blah just went on living They're lives. Did anyone take actions on tusker killings for tusk selling? NO. even if someone tries to do so it is impossible. Because of that these naturally rare animal is under constant threat in the forest. What I'm saying isn't that they shouldn't be in the jungle what I'm saying is that because of this beautiful event is why these things at least get to some attention. Because it has created love and respect of many lankans towards tuskers. Otherwise tuskers could have vanished in vain like our sinharaja black panther. Is anyone even talking about that incident now. All this animal cruelty people I'm asking did anyone even try to make sure that want happen again. And honey if an elephant comes to villages and was life threatening in danger, the actual thing that is in danger is the elephant itself. No one will think twice to shoot it. Example the leopard who was killed in willpattuwa. WHERE ARE THE F'ING ACTIONS??????? ask yourself honestly didn't you just went on with your life? If nadugamuwa raja was in a forest living it's life there is a chance 90% chance that it would have the same fate as Bharana and you will just grief a moment and just life your own busy life. In reality there is at least this much attention towards tuskers are because of this culture. Most of the elephants and tuskers in perahara are well taken care of and loved. Even in this vedio the tuskers isn't threatening to its care taker. But I do not say that every temple that has an elephant or a tusker takes well care. That is what we need to pay attention and take actions. In the first place every little temple doesn't need an elephant or a tusker. Perahara is a respective way of letting the people worship the relic tooth of buddha, so it is only needed to take a tusker in kandy perahara. I completely agree that those little temples doesn't need elephants for They're ones. But this tradition needs to continue. It is not animal cruelty in any way, if the keepers take well care of the tuskers and elephants and if the society pay close attention to see whether the tuskers are being loved and cared. Because that is actually the only way few generations ahead will actually have few tuskers to see.
