An EMOTIONAL Day In MED SCHOOL (White Coat Ceremony)

I'd like to dedicate this video to my parents. My parents never forced me into medicine, but they supported me 100% of the way on the journey. They worked long nights, sacrificed their own personal enjoyment, and looked out for us so that my three brothers and I could have opportunities that they never did. When it came to education, there was never a book, a course, or a resource that my parents wouldn't try to get for me so that I could succeed.
The only time I ever saw my dad cry was when we visited my grandpas grave in China. He started out the day completely normal, stubborn, and anxious as always. But when we got to the grave, he thanked my grandpa for how he always supported his education and broke down crying. At the time I was ten, and me and my brothers thought it was funny and started laughing, thinking about how we hated that our dad forced us to do those extra math workbooks. As I look back on my own educational journey, there the struggles I had to overcome were different than those of my parents and albeit probably easier because I knew they would always be there to support me. I cannot help but understand what my dad felt that day, looking at his own life and reflecting on how he got there. As we get older, we come to appreciate more and more what our parents have sacrificed for us. In the end, I could've never asked for more imperfectly perfect parents. I wish everyone good luck.

Congratulations Josh. I started watching your channel when I too was a premed. My parents were from the rural areas of China and never understood what practicing medicine meant in the U.S., but did everything they could to help me get through this excruciating process. Today as I am sitting in my med school dorm, waiting for my own white coat ceremony tomorrow morning, I cannot imagine how I could possibly get here without them always standing by my side. So I feel what you said, and am so grateful that you're sharing this incredible journey with us (you were one of the ppl that inspired me to create my own YT channel to share my med school experience with others). This was once my dream and I slowly started giving up on it once I entered college. To get to this point is extremely hard. I’m now a pre-nursing student and a part of me wonders what my life would’ve been like had I chosen to stay in medicine but I guess I didn’t want it as much anymore. It reminds me of what i heard, parenting doesnt come w a rule book and like my mother told me, her mother only taught her what she knew, and from there my mom tried her best with me and my sister with what she could. Definitely imperfections along the way and things i wouldve done differentoy if i were a parent but im not. But its this exp and what we know going forward that if we do have kids we can make thise changes. Its all about learning.

Wow... Your white ceremony was just a glam beautiful one... Ours was a simple one lighting a candle with a printed paper of Hippocrates oath in hand n reading it out aloud after our professor because of Corona........... The senior won't let us grab our apron in our hand, we have to bottom up n all full of restrictions n raggings, your white coat ceremony is so nice... Purely bliss like the white coat
