Check out the animedoro timer website!!: animedoro.io/
Last semester, I studied 600 hours and watched 300 hours of anime, all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA all because of this one study technique: the Animedoro. I've been using this technique ever since I started college, but originally with sitcoms and not anime. Today I will teach you to be THAT student that gets stuff done and enjoys their life.
First of all, the pomodoro technique, (25/5 version) which is discussed in this video, is an excellent technique for boosting your productivity, but a guy like me finds it way too boring to have to work through a 2-3 hour session without any entertainment, so I started doing something called the animedoro. It's technically an extended 52/17 pomodoro variant that I modified to fit my own needs.
In addition, I talk about my technique I use to never procrastinate, the shitty draft. (doesn't work so well for classes that you only memorize things in). I have this one friend that would always procrastinate and would always do so well, but I am not as skilled as her. Using this technique, I find it easy to get started on work without it feeling too burdensome.
Also, I look to the side a lot in this video, it's not cuz my notes were there or anything ;) I was just tryna make sure those kids I saved from the wildfire were playing safely downstairs ;)
Anyways, I hope you enjoy and try out the animedoro and leave a comment about how you study.

I've only been doing the bare minimum (working for only like 3 hours a day max) this whole semester and then came across your video and thought I would give it a try. I extended the breaks to 30 minutes so I'd have time to make food and tea/coffee as well and I was just mindblown! This method worked so well for me. I was able to get over 7 hours of work done every day and aced the assignments and tests I had to complete during that time. And I didn't even feel the need to procrastinate because I had those 30 minute breaks. And I had a good few hours to spare at the end of each day for relaxing and watching anime. It's the most productive I've been in ages. I highly recommend this method to anyone who struggles with procrastination. Thank you for making this video!

Pomodoro may get more work done in the short-term, but you may get burnt out from the intensity and unsatisfying rewards, ultimately leading up to large periods of neglect. I think, with the anime pomodoro, what matters is that it gives a satisfying reward. Though it may get less done in the short-term, by preventing a burnout in the long-term, it paradoxically gets more work done.

I started following this "animedoro" thing a year ago (but for me, studying sessions of at least 60+ minutes work better). At first, I just wanted to keep up with the new shows, but still prepare myself for university entry exams. Moreover, I needed a fixed routine to help me find time to work on other tasks I wanted. Another thing I've been doing for years is watching anime during meals and cardio workout... It feels good to accomplish an important task while doing something you enjoy in the process. By the end of the day, you get like 5 more anime episodes watched just by not wasting the time you would normally spend eating and keeping fit. Although quite obvious, I want to mention that break intervals work for much more than anime. There were times I've chosen to play games instead and on some other days I felt like reading was a better use of my time. With all that being said, my strategy was as followed: Study for *at least* an hour (always pushing myself to complete the task I started); An anime episode; Repeat until meal time~ Eat; Work on something I want for half an hour (cardio/piano/Mandarin/Spanish/programming/stock market/etc.); Repeat from start~ I also created a couple reminders for myself (some were being followed way before the strategy above): Weekends and weekdays are basically the same; Practicing something everyday for 15 minutes is far better than doing it once a week for 2 hours straight; There is barely no excuse for not separating *at least* an hour per day to study; Life is like a very complex game with an infinite amount of variables. *Everything* you do impact directly on your performance as a player, so act accordingly. Following those things I listed above I was able to keep up with (+/-)15 animes every season, complete a bunch of other shows, read over 100 books and, most importantly, succeed in the entrance exam for Aerospace Engineering. Currently, I'm in my first period and I gotta admit that it has been hard to follow my previous routine. Some days I can't watch a single episode (besides during meals), let alone do other things I like. However, I'm not trying to scare anyone (like most uni students like to do, for whatever reason), because having no spare time is completely my fault. Since I want to make the most out of all the opportunities I get during my college years, I am studying much more than I am expected to. If you don't aim that high (and that's totally fine, each person have their own priorities) and just do the minimum, you will have plenty of free time and still graduate without much worries. In case anyone tells you otherwise, this person is lying, simple as that. University is not as hard as people portrait it... But it definitely *can* be, depending on your goals. There are many more things I learned along the way that help with my productivity, but I feel like I've already written too much. I hope this commentary can be useful to you... How I wish someone had thaught me those things when I was younger. edit: Due to the repercussion of this commentary and following some requests, I wrote my overall thoughts about my first period at college on a blog. I might write more in the future if I feel like I have anything important to share. lifeisacomplexgame.blogspot.com/

I figured the pomodoro time was too short for me (as an engineering student, having to stop a problem in the middle or rush through it to finish in time was hell), so I stretched to around 60/15, and I thought "might as well watch something" and put on anime because it matched the break time. OMG! I used to do this in school and college, only, with books and not anime... I'd read 20 pages and get back to my work. I'd always pick a book that's not a thriller, or maybe something I have been wanting to re-read for some time( the harry potter series)... This used to work out great

I recommend this technique to anyone who has a terrible attitude towards timetables/ reserving time. I have major exams in June/ July and from today I'm continuing this technique(2x harder) and commencing Rurouni kenshin (1996-1998).

@caenir
@caenir 3 жыл бұрын
It's as expected for any degree really. How many hours were you at highschool for? About 7 hours for me, although that includes a 1 hour lunch break. Homework ontop and you are still studying more at highschool than uni which is considered either full time or part time (full time being 4 papers a semester). Of course if you're already knowledgable you can get by with less study, but if you're spending $900 on each paper (cost in NZ which is cheaper than america I assume but don't know other countries), you really want to learn shit. Uni is basically a replacement for a fulltime job. It's really parent's money and you're countries uni support which dictates whether you need a job on the side.

@@caenir I'm a graduate actually! I just got a degree in theatre arts. When you break it down like that, when it came to memorization, rehearsal, and general studies, I guess I WAS studying about 5 hours a day now that I think about it. I don't think I realized it until your comment, probably because I wasn't thinking of it as studying haha. Also "papers?" Is that was you guys call classes in NZ? Because 4-5 classes a semester is pretty typical in America, and they're also around $900-1500 each.
@caenir
@caenir 3 жыл бұрын
@@skyty0 I'm doing computer science which is mainly practical assignments. I don't consider it as studying but sometimes I put 5 hours in at once without breaking. But it was fun as I chose a degree I would enjoy and started off pretty decent at. Like study as it appears in movies/tv looks quite daunting, but that's really up to what you take We either call it papers or courses. I don't think there's much difference between them. Classes is what we called it at highschool so I guess it's a way to seperate them. For pricing NZ recently introduced first year being fees free. Currency puts the low end of your $900 usd up to 1,250 nzd. But I guess the big separator there is textbooks. I was only "required" to have one math textbook for the whole year which was just $40 brand new and my grades didn't suffer from it.

@@caenir Good on you for taking a practical major haha! I'm actually teaching myself programming in my spare time, wishing I took CS. America has a similar program coming down the line under the new presidency. University is still just as expensive, but anyone can get an associates at a community college for basically free now. I already had something similar because of the financial aid I qualified for, but it's cool to see that is becoming widespread now. Here's to loan forgiveness, for both of our countries!

I totally love your animedoro concept because I personally pomodoro kind of like a rushed up or hurried up. By the time I get to actually focus on what I'm studying and actually get into the momentum, the timer goes of and it's time for break which I don't really need. So I follow the 60-20 pomodoro. It works for me and I squeeze in stuff like stretching, small workouts, a nap, meal, KZbin and Netflix. 7-9 cycles of this side a day doesn't feel tiring at all. So yay.

One thing I do is study with a friend or just someone else in general. You can even look up “study with me vids”. I feel like we are lacking a lot the social pressure to study during quarantine. But like, if u see someone working and then u are watching anime, it makes u more self conscious about watching anime. Like u kinda think “oh they are studying and doing something productive, I’m just sitting here.” This way u get some motivation to study

I know this is a bit late for a response but, what you have to do with that is find a workaround. As for your example, one simple way to try to help with your ADD is to be mindful, like doing 5-10 minutes of meditation a day. Another thing is to block all the sites that you know won't be helpful towards your studies so that way there isn't a chance to get sucked into the rabbit hole and once you come to the realization that you just spent an hour watching something random on youtube. There is a lot of different and amazing content on youtube to do with self-development, productivity, studying and basically getting your life to where you want it. I have found a few good videos and channels which I could link if you would be interested in them. TLDR; Find workarounds to the problems you're facing.

5 minutes for me is actually enough, i mean for a nap...like remember those boring afternoon classes and you take a second of closing your eyes and suddenly when you snapped out of that short nap, you're suddenly refreshed (and also because you're scared the professor or teacher will caught you), in those five minutes I actually get a good nap, even if it's just five minutes then after that even my body's still tired my mind were refreshed, and i think having 5 minutes for your break time is better than no rest at all

My problem with anime is that it _lingers_ in my brain even after I'm done watching an episode. If I watch an anime episode, it says on in my mind for an entire day. Even when I study, my mind keeps thinking over the anime and I CANNOT CONCENTRATE.

Try rewatching one that your really like. It relaxes and entertains your but you already knew what was going to happen so it doesn't linger in your mind as much.
