SOAP RECIPE: I just buy local bulk melt and pour goat’s milk soap and add additional honey and herbs and oatmeal. I add fragrance as well - very economical!
PRODUCTS I USE:
(I recommend Dr. Dray on KZbin for advice for skin conditions! She busts skincare myths and helped me drastically improve my acne)
Products I use for my oily, sensitive, irritation and acne prone skin (eczema friendly skin care. I also use Differin for my acne. Please research how to use each item):
Cerave Healing Ointment

Cerave Calming Cleanser

Gentle Moisturizer
amzn.to/3iDiFQm
Shampoo for dandruff prone thick curly hair (clarifying, this helps me keep my scalp clean with very thick hair, the nozzle helps apply directly to the scalp and not dry out hair. It has salicylic acid in it that helps exfoliate the scalp. I only wash my hair once a week so it really helps as a stronger clean.)

Important Channel Update + how you can help + possible evacuation :(
A lot of wildfires in my part of the world this month. Many homes lost, unbreathable air, power outages, and an enormous fire burning through my valley. Seems there will be no respite for a couple months unfortunately, until rain comes. This is not meant to perpetuate fear, only update you on my situation. This is not abnormal for this area. It is important to stay positive and focus on caring for each other at this time ❤️ We are all safe and our town is facing the destruction together and supporting those who have lost their homes. It’s a long road ahead, and this disaster will affect my channel in several ways:
1. When I first heard about of the fires I worked ahead and made some videos, knowing the blue skies might disappear. Soon I’m hoping to get some respite from the smoke by visiting family on the coast.
2. I do not want this channel to be focused on the wildfires, these videos are my haven to retreat from stressors like this (especially since we will probably have fires until fall, and I do not want to dwell on it more than needed). However, I will make a single video on this topic soon updating you on the situation, hoping by then to know whether or not my home is safe and no evacuation will be needed.
3. HOW YOU CAN HELP: If you feel inclined to help with any relief efforts I will be donating half of the proceeds from this weeks video to support our natural areas and firefighters, so simply by watching it you will be able to help.
4. At this time it is unknown, but I may have to evacuate on very short notice. That means there may be an unexpected halt in my video postings with no updates, as power outages and smoke may not allow me a stable enough wifi connection for uploading.
5. For more information and ways to help, here are some relevant links:

External beauty is usually considered as something that diminishes with age due to external beauty standards set by society. Beauty comes in many different forms and ages, even though society has indoctrinated people to believe the only/highest form of external beauty comes in the form of white, youth and slender. With that said, they way people look is never a reason to admire or wish to be close to them. It’s the inner qualities to look for in each other. /Scandinavian

Hello Paola, like you I've spent many years worrying about my image, looks, shape etc but realize that we are all different, have different looks and shapes and that's why we're all unique. I spent my teens worrying about my pimples, but they vanished and I was always ready to wear make-up to make me feel better. As I grew up (literally) I realized that our looks are what makes us who we are and there is no-one any better than any one else. We must love ourselves first and appreciate our differences. A good diet is the best remedy for health, body image and looks. Blessings to you.

i just adore the scenes where you do things with your hands. breaking down wildflowers and herbs; laying them out to dry; mixing them with oils in niftily lidded jars; mixing ingredients for baking, handling the hot baked goods, lathering on a layer of some delectable spread you made and decorating it with flowers or herbs. and string! oh my, the endless wondrous things you do with raw twine! i could watch your sensitive sure hands all day long. there is such clarity and comfort in their movements, a familiarity and intimacy between your fingers, the materials you handle and your intentions. clearly all the moves you make and all the objects you handle are old friends and your connection to them is tender and true. it is all quite magical, really, and watching it never fails to bring a peaceful meditative delight to this viewer. thank you, for this dance in particular. may you, all your creatures and your valley be well.

Funny how we perceive ourselves.💚 You've always reminded me of one of those literary heroines from Jane Austen's time, with their classic beauty (the kind that transcends the "fashions" of the times). Their beauty was so skillfully written about as a beauty (both internal AND external) that they were never fully aware of-like an Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice. Thank goodness female written literature of such quality survived to our times as, let's face it, it takes a female to properly write about the irony of naturally beautiful women who are not fully aware of that beauty. Take care, Paola.

So beautiful. You are wise to come to these conclusions at such a relatively young age. As a woman in her fifties, I encourage you to continue doing your body a great favor by not being in the sun all the time. However make sure you do get some “pure sun” time with no sunscreen so you can fully absorb the rays as we are photo dependent on the sun for a healthy life. Some direct sun is good but all in moderation of course! Just like those who go “earthing” and take off their shoes to connect to the earth through contact with their feet, connecting with sun, wind, rain, and even the snow is good for our bodies. What a journey we are all on! Take care and be safe in your beautiful valley.

I think you are absolutely beautiful. I come from 2 bloodlines of toxic, abusive, appauling behaviour. It has bothered me for so many years, and sometimes I make up characters in my mind of people I would love to say I come from. Maybe this is partly why I enjoy reading so much! @@TheCottageFairy Thank you for sharing this information. I have been attempting to break cycles of family abuse as well. You said things so perfectly. You didn’t like the state of your skin, but you were not willing to give it the time and patience. It really is that simple. What we put on our skin and body and in it, make a huge difference. You do not always need a doctor and pills, the skin is an amazing organ. Your on the right path. In our society we show false images and we also don’t value an aging and wise face. We need to change that story and realize we are all beautiful and unique and we don’t need to do invasive things to change that and in fact look like everyone else. You have beautiful hair!! You have such a great attitude towards yourself. I’ve been VERY self conscious about my appearance my whole life. I can remember as far back as 5 years old being picked on for not being attractive. I was hoping that as I got older my feelings about myself would change. But, here I am, 53 years old and still hate how I look. Its all I can think about. I have days when I really don’t care about such things but more often than not, I’m obsessed with my appearance. Thank you for all your great videos.

I've been feeling a lot of pent up garbage lately, especially regarding my appearance since I'm newly pregnant. I've always had body image problems, even though I have been more or less fit and lean most of my life. But being in a happy relationship, busy new life and now expecting a child, I'm afraid of what these life changes will do to my body. I'm terrified of the prospect, so much that I can barely enjoy these blessings. This video really put my thoughts into perspective and touched my heart beyond words. Thank you!

Awe, I’m so sorry you’re going through that. It’s not easy but have you ever imagined if you would talk to a friend instead of yourself? Imagine your amazing, kind, smart and beautiful friend is growing a human in their belly all by themselves! A mini human looking like her and her husband. What would you say to this friend, I’m sure its nothing alike what you might feel about yourself. You’re growing a little miracle right there and I’m convinced you look absolutely amazing in the eyes of everyone who knows you. Maybe you need a little break, a quiet day out in nature or a spa day where you really feel and look inside - what do you actually think about yourself and how much of it is shame about how others might see you? I know to me, my mother is always the most beautiful. Loose skin, stretchmarks and all. None of it matters when she smiles. I hope so much for you that you are able to enjoy this magical time - you deserve it so much

I went through a similar experience when I was pregnant with my little girl and the only thing I can tell you is that once you hold that baby in your arms you will only remember your pregnancy as the miracle that brought you the most precious gift. I have suffered from acne since age 12. Now in my 30’s, I still with it. It comes and comes and I’ve tried it all. Veganism, sugar free or low sugar diet, Whole Foods, skin care routine. Everything has helped a bit but a skin care routine given to me by my dermatologist has made a huge difference. No oils on my face whatsoever. But stress and hormones always flare things up on my face and back. So it’s a constant battle. I also have very curly hair. And since the age of 15 I had been straightening my hair all the time. No one knew other than my family knew I had curly hair. 2 years ago I started my natural hair journey and I love my curls and now they are coming back to life. I’m learning to love myself just as I am. 😊 I appreciate this topic and this video.

I was raised by my mother and her side of the family(white) and I’ve never had contact with my Guatemalan side(they live in Guatemala). When I was younger I noticed I was different. I grew up in a mostly white community and school. I use to want my skin white and hair straight instead of curly but as I grow older I’m trying to embrace my Guatemalan side. I still feel very disconnected from it but I plan on studying Spanish and finding my family there someday but for now, we’ll start with embracing my looks.

My only secret to keeping my skin good (at 46 ...) is KARITÉ butter. I use it on my hair and all over my body. In combination with natural oils (which last a long time!) And it is also suitable for massage, if you mix it with lavender oil. I buy KARITÉ from wholesale suppliers. I buy a kilo, for a very reasonable price and that bag of butter can last for many months! more than a year... Rosehip oil (ROSEHIPS) is also very good, but it can be more expensive. But I use it. And castor oil too. Sometimes coconut oil. I have not used creams for many years! not even those prescribed by dermatologists. They all irritated my skin over time, and I was spending a lot of money. My favorite soap is OLIVAS :) But Marseille soap can be very expensive in my country. Better to look for local artisans. That soap can be used to wash hair too. I try to buy non-toxic shampoo and soaps. But it is a separate investment ...

Hi Paola, I have really come to appreciate your channel and I was wondering if you could talk a little about how you started this life? I don’t feel this is the case with your channel but so many channels lack transparency about making life change. How much did it cost you financially and otherwise, and did anyone help you with this? What was your situation before making this change? How did you develop the skills to do all the things you do? What are the challenges? How did you prepare? What research did you need to do? I feel that a life like yours is the kind of life I would like to live, and I would also like to do some acting perhaps for work but I have been so indoctrinated to believe that nobody actually does these things that I can’t even see the way from my suburban life and office job that is “normal” to one that fulfils me.
