Absolutely amazing interview! I am an independent, and also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I have lived in very liberal and very conservative areas all over the country and I sincerely appreciate learning perspectives from both sides of the aisle. Historically, I have listened to more conservative leaning podcasts, but periodically I have watched interviews by the young turks. I haven’t heard Mrs. Kasparian as much in the past, but I appreciate her candor and honesty. Many conservative and liberal talkshow hosts simply seem to parrot party talking points, and rarely will agree with the other side, or admit when they are wrong. We need more people like this, if our country is going to come together. I believe the vast majority of conservatives, independents, and liberals actually are good people and want a better country to live in. We have to learn to listen to one another. This really opened my eyes to another perspective I don’t hear enough! Thank you

yeah.. well, you weren't wrong. she was the one that used to be in the wrong, and now she has learned and changed her ways. the contrast is actually pretty crazy to see. i remember the footage of her from like a decade ago after trump got elected, and she genuinely looked like she was a crazy unhinged and extremely miserable and unhappy frigid witch. now she looks like a normal healthy and happy individual and appears to be relaxed and likeable and kind. it's almost as if a weight was lifted off her shoulders as she ditched her fellow deranged leftists that were holding her back and trying to control her thoughts and keep her miserable alongside them. i didn't watch this whole thing, but from hearing the way that she speaks, she seems to have genuinely woken up and decided to come back into the real world, so i don't even think that most people would disagree with her about a majority of topics anymore. she seems to have gained the ability to deal in facts and reality, so i think that if someone actually took the time to go through each topic one by one and break them down properly, she would most likely concede on most of the points. it's pretty clear that we're not dealing with someone that only changed an opinion about a single topic, but that she now instead genuinely sees the world from a different perspective. because otherwise there's no way that she would be committing the equivalent of leftist blasphemy with criticisms for the way that leftists went full-blown defund the police and lawlessness and disorder and open borders and unlimited abortions on demand after nine months and "uterus-wielding specimen" buzzwords and "america bad, orange man bad" and these types of crazy things if she hadn't somehow managed to actually come to the realization that she used to be totally clueless and wrong and most likely now feels embarrassed about not just the large amount of silly things that she said in the past but also the way that she used to express herself which made her sound like a very angry and bitter and miserable unhinged witch. so yeah, good for her. we can only hope that other people that are stuck in that parallel leftist universe see her and go like "oh wow i always liked anna, why is she out here suddenly saying these things, maybe she's right, maybe i should listen to her" and follow her example. or if those people changing their views sounds like unrealistic wishful thinking, then maybe at the very least they could continue to listen to her so that they are able to get a small break from the leftist propaganda and get whatever small bits of truth and reality that she is able to provide.

Dang, Ana has come such a long way. I’m glad she’s looking at points in much more nuanced way because the world is indeed not black and white. The world is incredibly complicated and there’s a very good reason that as people age, they become more conservative. No, it’s not because the Overton window shifts or because older generations hold more conservative views. In respect to their own views, as people age, their views change to become more conservative. The reason is because people start to better understand the world and see it for how it really operates, while children tend to see the world in an overly simplistic way. I have to wonder if her father didn’t go through that experience during Covid whether Ana would have changed her views on landlords. Most people require having to personally experience things in their lives for their eyes to open. I’m glad Ana is finally starting to open her eyes.

I always chuckle when conservatives give themselves the most charitable explanation of why an average person would become more conservative over time instead of also exploring the less flattering data driven explanations. The “getting wiser/more experienced” explanation forgets the critical attribute of the average American/person is largely uneducated and will not become more educated as they get older. We’re talking HS and lower. So if they’re not becoming more educated/knowledgeable, what unflattering explanation might better explain gradual conservatism? Easy. Selfishness. If you think about the size of the community liberals want to take care of/be concerned with when they are younger, it’s absolutely larger and more inclusive. When they get older and have more earning potential, there’s more of a selfish incentive to slam the door and make a decision on perceived choice between them and “others”. This explanation gets around the fact that most people are uneducated and will not become “smarter/wiser” and can explain the well known psychological phenomenon of “I got mine, good luck.” 🤷‍♂️

@@nicfirebear I agree with the sentiment, but I'll slightly reiterate it in a more concise way. People becoming more conservative with age has a lot less to do with supposedly understanding the world better than it does the self-preservation instinct that comes with accumulating resources with age. When it comes to human beliefs and behavior, I always believe the selfish explanation over the charitable explanation.

@@GrandpaBaner thank you for missing the concept as it makes my point even more for me. Schooling does not just make you smarter in certain subjects, it's also indicative of your learning ability, understanding capability and attainment. This is something that those who couldn't attain higher education do not like to acknowledge, understandably. There's an overwhelming correlation between higher IQ and advanced educational attainment as well as the same for lower IQ's and lack of educational attainment. The average IQ of Americans with HS or less attainment is less than ~95. Those with graduate degrees is over ~125. Politically the average liberal is 106 and the average conservative is ~94. This a is massively stark contrast where for instance, one individual understands complex concepts of market forces and geopolitics affect on oil & gas market prices... and a simpletons understanding that "pwesident make gas go $$$." Now this doesn't account for "outliers" like a high IQ conservative HS graduate, but outliers aren't a norm or even common, their outliers for a reason. We stick to trends and multiple correlations that explain the bulk of the data. So while you don't "NEED" to go to understand the world better, (you'd be an outlier/statistical anomaly) you will have LARGELY statistically gone to higher learning if you understand the world concepts better. The more you know... ♥

I was surprised by Ana a few months ago when I heard her speak openly about some things she believes she was wrong about. She has impressed me even though I still disagree with her on a lot of issues. As we age, we generally become more conservative because we see how things really are instead of how we want things to be. The parties are more divided now than at any time I can remember (52 y/o) but people like Ana are helping to bridge that divide.

“We see how things are instead of how we want things to be” is a cope answer for old people who generation ruined it for the coming generation more than it is some epistemic, ontological conclusion on how the world works. Collect your retirement, it’s ok that the collected you generation is leaving the USA worse off than how your parents left it to you.

Yep, that is 100% a fact of life. The older you get, the more likely you are to become conservative for the exact reasons you mentioned. Which is also why I find it a very dangerous idea to lower the voting age to 16 (which the left is trying to do), because young people just don't have a clue about many things (zero life experience, have never paid taxes, don't know how systems work, etc...). And obviously one can see why the left would want 16 year olds to vote, because they will be the ones voting for the left (and their often times unrealistic/utopian views).

You can see it's a mix of seeing the negative policies affecting her directly (like her parents being landlords, being attacked by homeless people, etc), as well as the typical effect that when people grow older they usually tend to become more conservative because they see the reality of how the world works, compared to the youthful naiveness/utopian view of what they think/thought life is. For example, on paper, communism sounds great, it would be such a beautiful world. However, it's utopian and will never work, because humans are different. Not everyone is equal in ability, equal in looks, equal in intelligence, equal in creativity, equal in *insert anything here*. And if you have unequal people, you'll have unequal outcomes, and no amount of regulation/forced taxation/etc. can ever make things "equal for everyone". Once a person realizes this simple fact, it changes your views on a lot of things. There's always going to be poor people, middle class people, rich people etc.

A simple rule on how to determine if someone is guilty of an 'ism" or "bigotry" is to ask yourself one question. Does your opinion on the alleged offense change based on the person who is committing it? If the answer to that question is "yes", then odds are that the person is not guilty of the alleged offense.
