This approach seems great for any kind of dawless live synth jam. Even experimental noise. I found that turning the volume down on the bass track and running it in the background made it way easier to find grooves on the DFAM/mother32 while still running drum tracks
@AnalogKitchen
@AnalogKitchen Жыл бұрын
I also found that that thing is so versatile. And because of the velocity lane, turning it down or hiding it in the background really fills out any beat. My 909 loves the DFAM. Turn up the volume and rock it solo, turn it down and drive it like a catalyst

Nice one, I have a DFAM in my set up, along with a bunch of eurorack modules, I defo agree about keeping it simple, I do have trouble with transitioning from one movement ( or track) to the next ( new track). Great video. I’m now subscribed

I'm pretty sure the 5 easy steps are only easy when you're already a good techno DJ. I like analog sequencers like the Korg SQ-1 or Doepfer Dark Time because you can basically turn anything into a DFAM. I mostly use my Minitaur with two SQ-1s. A cool undocumented feature of the Minitaur and a lot of Moogs with MIDI is that the last MIDI note you played acts as a base note for the pitch CV, so you can make patterns with a CV sequencer then transpose them with a MIDI keyboard. But the unique thing about the DFAM is that the 2nd row is velocity, and velocity usually controls the filter (or filter env mod) and not just the volume. I don't know any synths that'll let you control velocity with CV, so you need to just control the VCA volume or the gate. But the cool thing about the Behringer Edge is that you can just use it as an analog sequencer with velocity. It feels wrong to sequence a Minitaur with an Edge, but that's the only way you're going to control the velocity. And the Minitaur lets you adjust filter and volume velocity sensitivity with CC 89/90.

I agree you need to know at least something about what's what with Techno. I fully agree with you on the DFAM's velocity row. That is so instant. Before the DFAM I was always spending much time on emphasizing accents and velocity sensitive 'ghost notes' to make it work... Thanks for the Minitaur insights and you taking the time to comment. It's truly appreciated!

I’m always facinated by the groove of the bassline. Could you explain how it is sequenced ? It seems that there are 6 notes playing but i’m not sure
@AnalogKitchen
@AnalogKitchen Жыл бұрын
Looking at a 4 bar loop, placing 1 note on an Ubeat in the 1-2 and more notes on the 3-4 side of the bar will get you a groove. Also use some shuffle to mesje it convincing

great to hear; wish I would have been there! Didn’t want to dis the minitaur, love it; just think there are better options for this specific usecase. I am still moving my minitaur in and out for my next live techno set. DFAM was easier to commit to ;)

Caveat, I hate techno. But, I think that ride should be every 2 beats until the end of a 16 or 32 bar sequence, then 4 on the floor a couple of bars. And you could have let that vocal lick come through more, especially during the drop around 21 minutes in because it goes well with the drums and was the flyest part of the beat. But riding ride cymbsls too hard is cheesy as hell.
