I think the unfamiliarity of playing on the bass prompted both of you to play more from the ear which resulted in some really good music, great video guys!
@sundaynightdrunk6 жыл бұрын
I love how it brought Rob back to the "roots" of jam music, so to speak. I've never seen him sound so loose. Pretty great what Lee came up with, too, when sort of forced out of his "normal" playing boxes (even though he sees the same lower-four strings on any electric, removing two of them forces you to compromise). Really cool video.
@larshcdk6 жыл бұрын
I think you are both straight on!. It's like the extra amount of thinking that goes into their playing "forces" them to do new things because it breaks their old habits. Especially Chappers "notes pr. minutes" goes way down, but the notes that he ends up playing are all the right ones!. The captain was just great! Perhaps even better than when on a regular guitar?!

I think it's a great idea for recording leads. I would be interested in hearing a dirty lead recorded with the mid at 6 and treble turned all the way up and then double track it clean with the bass turned up and mid and treble level using the bass with guitar strings

i love the idea of the wider string spacing too, i have huge hands and can find basic chords tricky at times.
@royalcat106 жыл бұрын
@@Mulgy Could look into buying baritone guitars. They have an extended scale length, which would give your hands a bit more space. You don't have to use them to downtune, you can use them in E standard just the same, although the strings will be quite a bit tighter than normal. But, what you really need is just more muscle memory practice. BB king wasn't the slimmest of men, and he managed just fine. Zakk Wylde is built like a mountain, even uses shorter scale length guitars, and he has virtually liquid fingers.
@Mulgy6 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah your totally right, many amazing guitarists have huge hands and i am sure that even more practice would help a lot. If i come to buy a new guitar i might look at a baritone, down tuning would be ok though, i use 11s on my Les Paul and down tune to D anyway :)

A Bass VI basically IS a baritone guitar. The only difference between a normal guitar and a Baritone is the extended scale length. A Bass VI checks that mark. What differentiates a Bass VI and a Baritone is typically that Bass VI's may come with more bass designed pickups, (But not always) and will have a bridge that will fit bass strings, with their enlarged ball end. There are almost no differences between a Bass VI and a Baritone as to how it would play and sound. (Assuming you're using the same pickups. But, obviously, using a 30" scale length for anything above like A standard is just way overkill. It's just entirely unnecessary. I like my strings pretty tight too, (I aim for about 20 lbs of tension on each string, I use 11s on a 26.5 inch scale length guitar in standard.) but using a 30 inch guitar for Drop C, you'd be better off just using like 13's on a normal scale length guitar. No intonation issues, keep that tight feel and beefier sound, and don't have to worry about that massive stretch you'd get on the lower frets from such a large scale length.
@squidwardstesticles59146 жыл бұрын

In my first band in Jr High, no one had a bass so we strung my Sears Silvertone with the g string from a bass set and then the rest with a standard next three guitar strings. Got the low end we needed. I played 2 years as this being our bass. Crazy things can be done. I enjoyed this quite a lot.

You have to do all of the work. Or, you guys could buy the bodies and necks separately. Either way, you guys making guitars would be interesting to see.
