I have a GP-100. It's a no brainer. It's less than most individual pedals. I carry one arround as a backup in event everything goes south. On more than one occation I've have a fellow musician have something like a distortion pedal die on them and lent the GP100 to fill in for them. Also get a USB to 9V adapter to go with it anyou can run the thing off a USB power bank litterally all day without running out of power.

I bought a used GP100 as a practice device. (Disclaimer: I play guitar for more than 40 years now and I’m an old school „pedals and tube amps“ guy - never really got into that digital stuff) After a few days I just HAD to buy the GP200. Both sound really good, are cheap, sturdy and take little time to learn how to use them. The GP200 has superior functionality, though. Real knobs to tweak the sound, better software, a larger screen, etc. Even if you never owned a programmable multiFX before, you‘ll get great sounds out of both in a minute. And if you are willing to invest more time to get into the depths of these multis, there is almost nothing you can’t do with them. They are so much fun that I totally got sucked down this rabbit hole, much to the chagrin of my bandmates. 😅

It is great with headphones too. A beginner won't need an amp. The interface on the unit is very logical and easy. I like that one can alter the patches and save/organize them while still keeping the factory preset patches. I am a low intermediate and I practice the same song over and over again... so by changing patches I can fight the boredom of repetition. Using a looper to just hear myself on playback is very helpful. Plus this teaches me what all of the different effects do.

Just got the GP 200 about a week ago. Upgraded from Zoom G3X & G3XN. Super great. What’s nice about plug ins is as The Captain says, reamping. I like having clean if not dry guitar sound to capture my technique and have a 2nd channel with distortion. Otherwise going beyond a Crunch gets too muddy. I might get a splitter to keep some of the plain signal to add articulation. Love watching you guys. It’s like an upscale basement or garage hangout and jam. Paid to play semi-pro.

In answer to Pete’s question. About a week ago I retired a Line 6 HX effects and a Behringer 404hd and a mess of insert cables that I used to feed hardware synth and guitar to DAW. Now I have a Valeton GP200 - synth plugs in to aux-in and appears as usb audio and guitar to regular input and a single usb-c cable 👍 all plugged in to return of my Vox AV30 Main benefit is it all works previously if you turned on something in the wrong order and you spent 20 mins chasing connectivity issues. Anyways that’s my experience for what it’s worth.

I've got the GP-100. I don't really have anything to compare it to, but I like it. At least with the firmware I have (V1.8SP1) you can set the USB interface L and R channels independently to wet and dry and record the signal as you're hearing it on one channel and DI on the other. So reamping with plugins is possible.
@randrothify
@randrothify Жыл бұрын
I prefer pedals and amps but sometimes you just want something that you turn on and it just works. No fiddling with power supplies, having to add an additional pedal switcher or MIDI commands to sequence what is on and when, or remembering analogue settings for different specific sounds when more than one pedal is engaged. That’s what these units do. And you don’t need to use interfaces, plug-ins, DI boxes, etc. If anything, once you get past the initial screen-based interface, these are easier to use and coordinate with other gear. The only issue is that you might not like some of the sounds for certain notoriously difficult to nail effects like spring reverbs or fuzzes. In that case you can just the effects loops on these units to substitute in the exact desired effects from specific pedals. These Valeton units sound great, and not just for the money, and the expression pedal like the more expensive flagship units make them even more versatile.

The best IRs are without a doubt York Audio IRs- and they're fairly inexpensive. For 15 bucks you get around 300 different captures of a cab- from every conceivable angle, using multiple mics, and multiple mic placements. And they come ready for Mac users, or windows users- separated out by sample rate and processing depth- so you can use them on basically any unit out there. I use them on my Headrush and the difference they make is incredible. You still have to tweak a little but- that's going to be true no matter where you get an IR. But if you set your amp and cab up properly, they sound so real it's almost impossible to tell my modeler from my tube amp. And that wasn't the case when I took the HR MX5 out of the box- it sounded awful- thin, fizzy, and harsh. I was about to return it and a guy at the local shop asked me if I had tried using an IR- that one suggestion really changed my path drastically. Even just using the Headrush IRs makes a huge difference- but what really sealed the deal was trying a York IR. They have a much faster sample rate and a much higher bit depth- and it really makes a massive difference in the amount of information the unit can pack into a second- which is what makes it sound real. When you hear one that sounds "digital"- what's really happening is the sound you're hearing has much less information per second than what your ears are used to. As a result, it sounds weird or fake. Also the changes within the tone are happening in discreet increments- it's not a smooth transition- which is what your ear is used to. But the more info. you pack into a second- the smoother it all gets, the more real it sounds.

@@sillysausage4549 LOL_ I wish kid- I'm a fifty something year old retired carpenter from Alabama who just happens to also play in a cover band. Not sure if the global eq on the 100 was doing this but in my monitors it sounded like bass frequencies got shelved. Given what this is, it's great in its price range. Seeing this gave me an idea for Andertons though. You guys need a good standardized IR for a V30 loaded cab and a greenback loaded cab. For any of these that allow aftermarket IRs, having a good example of a couple cabs that show how much better they can be might be helpful. I know you're showcasing products out of the box, which is important, but if the laptop is out for the video already, having that element of 'this is what it could sound like' might be useful. Maybe even sell the IR for a fair price if it's a good one

There are several pros and cons for both physical and software/plugin/virtual pedals, which is an essential consideration.. Factors such as cost, space, and sound quality should all be considered. Both physical pedals and digital pedals have similar sound quality so the decision really comes down to cost and space. At the end of the day, producing a great sound or tone is what matters most. This, of course, is largely subjective, and part of the experience of playing guitar (or keyboards) is finding what works best for you. Personally I'm torn between Headrush Line 6 and Valeton.... based on affordability, I'm starting to lean towards Valeton GP-200 !

When in looper mode - check the three knobs below the screen - all options are there - you might need to press the PARA knob to get additional options. The option is Pre/Post and you want to set it to post to change tones. This will reduce max loop time from 180s to 90s. The Undo/Redo is wonky and will reduce it to 45s.

I paid £65 for a mint used GP-100 a few months ago - a real bargain and very happy with it. It also acts as an audio interface so, when connected to a PC via USB (mine even came with a USB cable but I don't think one is included from the factory) you can use all manner of amp and effects simulation software (Guitar Rig, Amplitude etc.) as well as a DAW so recording my horrible playing is a breeze. It's great for practicing, takes headphones, and gives you more effects than you're ever likely to need. As the GP-100 has a looper, a chromatic tuner, drums etc. you do get a lot for your money. So, hook it up to your PC or MAC for best results and the most possibilities. You can also go straight into an amp and the GP-100 allows you to turn off cab simulations in its global default settings which you'll probably want to do if you are playing through your own amp and it saves you having to do it manually each time you switch between patches - can sound a bit off otherwise, although not always, but your ears/mileage may vary. I recently got my son a Hotone Ravo which is also a very good and reasonably priced multi effects unit and does pretty much the same things as the Valeton and I think its presets are probably slightly better overall. However, presets are just a starting point and as you can save 99 of your own patch creations in addition to the 99 factory ones you have plenty of room to experiment and find your desired sounds and tones. What made me lean towards these two entry level units was their all metal construction - both are very sturdy and well made. A lot of the competition at the same price points have plastic housings and whilst that's fine, considering most of these are only going to be used for home/studio applications, the metal just feels more substantial. The software for both is excellent and I'd say is the way to get the best out of them - much more user friendly than the controls on the units themselves - which are fine, just a lot more fiddly and slow for making changes - the monitor of a desktop or laptop is far quicker and simpler. I'd recommend either for someone looking to get their first multi-effects unit and starting out with looping, recording and practicing at home, you'll have a lot of fun but even if somehow you don't, at least you haven't invested a mortgage payment on the experiment. EDIT: if you want to know which amps are being simulated and can't figure it out from the names in the software, the manual explains what most of them are trying to emulate and the same goes for all the effects pedals and cabinets.

I have a Hotone Revo and GP100 and GP200.. I disagree, but yes the Revo has some decent tones itself One of the things I did like about it is that it records the drum track when you use the looper so it will never be off as long as you're not and of course you stop it at the right time lol

This should be compared to the NUX-MG-101. The latter is cheaper and probably looks like a toy but matches ths GP-100 in performance.

I bougt it but prefer my zoom G1Four most of the time. Very light, way easier to navigate, the controls are betters the screen is better, the effects are better too and 4AA battery operated ! The only thing is the cab sim / IR that are not very good on the G1. I wish they would just update the processor and the IR on the Zoom and keep all the rest the same.

In my personal opinion, the best of both worlds comes from using a small 6-10ch mixer with audio interface, and connect everything else to it, then send that to the PC and use a nice DAW to do everything. To be able to clean up the signal or add tweaks, OR, you could just have a DAW and the unit, and nothing else. But, the audio interfaces will have better quality of the signal. But, to be perfectly honest, i dont think the human ear can actually tell the difference between 44.1khz or 48khz in the quality of the recording. Unless you go between 16bits or 24bit, MAYBE.
@stoneysdead689
@stoneysdead689 Жыл бұрын
No, our ear can't discern the difference between 44.1 or 48Khz sample rate- but it can definitely hear the difference between 16 and 24 bit processing. My modeler uses 32-bit floating-point processing and has a 192khz sample rate- and I can definitely hear the difference that makes. Headrush was smart and realized that what ppl really wanted was good tone- not 100 different outputs and inputs- so they put the most emphasis into the processing and sample rate- and it paid off. If you use the right IRs with this unit, imo it sounds better than the Helix, which cost way more.
