I'm 48 and have probably been waiting most of my adult life as a Star Wars fan for this show. Everything is so on point for me it's ridiculous! The way it's shot, the slow build of the story, the building of every character so you feel a little bit more for each of them. The script and dialogue always feels so real and never unnecessary, helping the story and building the Star Wars universe that bit more detailed. The atmosphere in the scenes is also right on point with what is happening, you can feel the tension and weight because the acting is really quite something. This is a brilliant show already and if you feel that don't let anyone tell you otherwise!

Uncle Harlo sounds like some mob boss. The mom seems likes she’s part of the mob, also.
@fakecubed Жыл бұрын
Interesting that somebody like that became somebody important within the Empire, at least some sort of ministry head or otherwise having influence. A lot of the people who became important in the USSR were essentially mobsters as well (and certainly all of them acted like it once they had power even if they weren't originally). Basically a lot were union leaders back during the revolution, and unions are always mobbed up in any country, and with their ability to organize labor and affiliation with socialist politics they were able to leverage that into power within the communist party. Then, when the USSR fell, the mobster types that were feeding off of the Soviet corruption in the 1980s and 1990s were the ones who had guns and loyal men at their command, so they went and took over the various industries as the existing power structures through the communist party disintegrated. The government wasn't exerting control over the government-owned factories and mines and such anymore once communism fell, so the mob showed up, told the people there that they were now in charge, and now those mobsters are the billionaire oligarchs running Russia's whole economy. Organized crime, if that's really what Uncle Harlo is, will always try and seize power whenever there's enough political chaos or a power vacuum. It's a nice bit of realism to see in this very grounded story about revolution.

Vel possibly being Luthan's daughter is interesting because it give the show a through-line about the differing parental relationships. On one hand we have Vel being brought into the rebellion completely, but is kind of being dropped into the deep end and Luthan is just telling her figure out how to make it work yourself. On the other end Mon Mothma is keeping her rebellion life a secret from her family and it is putting a strain on their relationship. Not to mention Syril and his judgmental mother which is only going to further push him to make more and more bad decisions. We know we are going to meet Saw Gerrera who raised then abandoned Jyn. And finally, we might just meet Leia who is probably the shining example on being raised right, giving what we've see of her with Bail and Breha.

@PierceArner2 жыл бұрын
@@hellfish2309 His home life is also oppressively controlling and he's always trying to find ways to manage and mitigate that type of thing which is why he seizes the opportunity when his commander leaves. It's also worth noting that what he was doing for CorpSec was simply refusing to make up a lie about how two men on duty died, and pursue their killer and bring them to justice. The underlying motives that drive his actions are based in the same things driving the rebels who have lost people to the Empire. It's important to remember how difficult it is to see the bigger picture when you're buried in it so deeply. That's why the story of the ISB watching those things is such an important element to link up how his story will develop, which side he ends up on, and why.
@hellfish23092 жыл бұрын
@@PierceArner when I say, “there’s more to mine” my speculation is that the show is!’t fully selling why how his homelife shapes the character we see behaving before us YET; I think the Gilroys are drumrolling that dimension to Karn, whereas the OP is convinced these (2) scenes are that bell already rung That’s not a critique so much as a difference of interpretation; if this is supposed to be a snapshot of his upbringing to shape his motives, I’m convinced at least in their production there’s more

@@hellfish2309 Oh I think they've already shown a lot to characterize Syril to hint at his character, even in the first three episodes. We've seen that Syril lacks charisma and confidence. And so far, we've seen has no real friends, only work colleagues. The closest thing we've seen him have as a positive relationship was the one he had with Sgt. Linus Mosk. As a character, I think Syril make a rather excellent foil to Cassian: He's his opposite in many ways: Having a unbearable family life and no friends, whereas Cassian seemed to have had a fairly positive upbringing even with his foster family and many friends and acquaintances on Ferrix (even though he's shown as constantly owing them money and favors). Syril is lacking on both physical and social acumen, whereas Cassian is highly skilled and capable. Syril is dedicates himself to law and order whereas Cassian lived as essentially as a subversive and a petty criminal. Lastly, Syril seems to be a character desperately in search of a purpose and a sense of self-worth that elude him, whereas Cassian already has the confidence of experience but has a higher purpose thrust upon him.

I don't get why people are hating on Andor. They gripe because it's slow - but that's the point. You don't just wake up and have a ready-to-go revolution. It takes time. Everyone has their own reasons for joining the resistance - some more pure than others. And everyone resists in their own way. Revolutions are very complex and they have done a really good job of illustrating how all these people from different areas, backgrounds, with different reasons and drives all come together to do their part. People complain that Coruscant while impressive is drab and colorless. But, again, they miss the point. We're at the height of the Empire and everything is drab - even in the capital. The acting, the cast, the production value, the art direction are all fantastic! It's a slow burn and I am really enjoying it.
@DRush762 жыл бұрын
It's TOO SLOW. Of course I don't expect the Rebel Alliance to sprout up in an episode or two. C'mon. But the narrative within the last two episodes could have been told within one episode. Why are we getting glimpses into Mon Mothma's family life in a series about Cassian Andor? Will her family play a role in his character arc? Has it already? The series' first two episodes could have been one. The name of this series is "CASSIAN ANDOR", not "THE REBEL ALLIANCE". It's ironic, considering one of my few complaints about "Rogue One" is that I found the pacing of the movie's first 20 minutes or so to be too fast.

52:40 Maybe people prefer just pictures and memes now. Just things they can scroll quickly over. Where they see everything in just one glance. That's how impatient people are now. Or at most maybe people have enough patience just for shorts? But longer forms like movies? People would complain how what was shown in the opening is bad influence, and they seem to forget that the character's going on a journey in the next hour or so and the lesson is supposed to be learned when you get to the end. Same with a tv show but that's longer and each episode a week apart so people are going to be even more impatient with those...

I think using The Tie fighter flying over the group to show how small the rebellion's at this point is really neat storytelling. When Opposed to the Tie fighter's is first seen in Star Wars it's described as "small" by Obie Wan, then Han chases until he is snagged by the Death Star's tractor beam. A New Hope makes the Tie look week and Andor makes it look unformidable. This shows the growth of the Rebels. Also The Millennium Falcon and Han Solo are bad ass. last part is a given. Thanks

If I remember correctly the Empire nationalized all the corporations like the Trade Federation. I also think that it was mentioned that the Mining Guild is like the only major corporation left that isn't directly under imperial control though they are still closely tied to them.

Look up the Irish play, "Stones In His Pockets." I'm positive that's a subtle reference to what Skeen was saying.
@anonymes28842 жыл бұрын
To me it was an allusion to Virginia Woolf (who killed herself by filling her coat pockets with stones and walking into the River Ouse in England) but it's certainly possible they're referencing the play you mention (though i'd bet the play itself was referencing Woolf). (I might be more convinced except most of the allusions in the last couple of episodes have specifically been to rural _Scotland_ not Ireland - the background story of the mountain region is basically the Highland Clearances for instance, characters have Scottish accents and of course they're actually _in_ Scotland, filming wise)
@gasaholic472 жыл бұрын
@@anonymes2884 Yes, I thought of Virginia Woolf as well, and it could probably go either way. I knew it was Scotland they were in right off, a I have been there twice.

26:49 - 27:49 As far as the Shaak-Ti death, there is also the scene from Clone Wars where it was Anakin killing her which I think was a vision seen by Yoda? I BELIEVE that's the canon version, lemme check... *Googles...* So the current canon answer is she died while recording a holocron via stab in the back from Anakin/Vader during the Order 66 siege on the Jedi Temple as seen by yoda's visions in the Clone Wars episode "Voices".

Syril is a great character. I have no idea where he will go from here. I think he wants to prove himself to be an asset to the empire, but who knows at this point. His relationship with his mother gives me Psycho vibes.
@Girder32 жыл бұрын
See, I from what we've seen, I don't think he's trying to prove anything to the Empire, as much as he's trying to prove something to himself. Think about it, an overbearing mother, no father around, no discernable friends. It seems like his job was all he had. Which explains why he tried so hard with his job, whereas most everyone else was apathetic.

Glad I'm not alone in instantly spotting a Polaroid SX-70 Land Camera standing in for the Star Wars equivalent of a GPS/Navigation Device... Was this 70's Era Film Camera already established (repurposed) in the SW Universe (Movies/TV-Movies or otherwise) and just getting its 15 minutes 40+ years after Polaroid stopped making this model?
@anonymes28842 жыл бұрын
Not sure but I suspect it might just be an Easter egg/general nod to the OT era props (Luke's lightsabre handle famously being from a camera flash for instance and his binocs were also repurposed camera parts).

The first 3 episodes I only really gave a 6/10 and it wasn't just because it was slow but because I just couldn't follow some parts as well so I felt slightly bored and confused a lot (last episode helped a lot), but these past 2 have been much more enjoyable because I feel like I understand what all is going on despite it maybe not being as action packed as other shows. Kinda like Eric I like just seeing these characters interacting with each other.

The ISB mention Kessel, Solo took place in 10BBY...do you think she means the Droid Uprising? Also I think the girls are getting data, while the guys are getting the credits, and I think Andor as the pilot will have to make the call to save the mission and leave people behind, or risk the mission to try to get everyone out.
