I love your reactions. This show had some of the best written monologues I've ever seen in one season of one show. I loved everything about this show but the monologues stand out. Such a well written show. Been following you two since The Legend of Vox Machina.

While the entire season was truly wonderful, my favorite probably lies in Episode 7 for me. Despite no action, the masterclass dialogue carried the show in a way no other SW shows have done before. The interaction between Maarva and Cassian about standing against oppression, Mon Mothma's conflict of morality and recruitment of Tay, Dedra gaining an edge over Blevin, and a view into what the justice system has become; it was all such a masterclass.

The realisation on Luthens face during Marvaa's wonderful speech was a wonderful moment in a lot of wonderful moments. 2 superb actors in a gorgeous cast of wonderful actors.

Luthen intrigues me, more so in this episode than others. What he said to Saw when he asked Luthen who he was, "I'm a coward". Luthen is willing to sacrifice people in the name of getting The Empire to react, but he never saw or physically partook in what the execution of his plans. Maarva's speech hit him hard. The brilliance of Tony Gilroy writing, Benjamin Caron's direction, and Stellan Skarsgård's acting really brings this out. No words, but you see Luthen internalize how Maarva was inspiring Ferrix without compromising her sole. Then seeing from afar the chaos and carnage that this actually causes. I think that had a part at the end when Cassian tells him to kill him or take him in. No longer is Cassian a mercenary and a liability, but someone who believes in the need to rebel, and is now an asset. I also think Luhten started healing a but, and may change his plans a bit. Be more inspirational than scorched earth.
@hadoken95
@hadoken95 2 жыл бұрын
I imagine to a large extent Luthen has been considering himself alone in his ultimate goal - he's got all these pieces he's moving that he's aware have their own desires and motivations that aren't necessarily in line with his own. This episode he saw he's absolutely not alone and like you say, can move into that inspirational role. I think and hope that Cassian will share the manifesto with Luthen - it could help him further realize the extent of what he's largely considered his personal rebellion.
@kellingc
@kellingc 2 жыл бұрын
@@hadoken95 I love the dimensions these characters have been given. Even the Imperials. A mean I actually feared for Denise Gough, I thought she was going to get torn apart, nevermind Dedra. But to see her lose control of the calm, threatening exterior abd pinicing - superb. Cassian was right, power dose not panic, and she had no power here. I am so glad this is in the Star Wars library, and glad I latched on to it.

This has been an excellent series, which really needs to be looked at not episode by episode but as a well-written novel. With that said, each episode has so many emotional moments to enjoy. In this episode, one moment that warmed my heart was Cassian and Brasso's hug in the tunnel. Clearly, Cassian needed that hug. He has been thru hell. He learns that his mom has died and is feeling the pain and guilt of her loss. He barely managed to escape the prison, but it's not lost on him that Kino and many others likely did not make it. But he is home now and is greeted by a friend who gives him the firm embrace he needs. He needed that recharge of the genuine love of family and community he had been missing. Cassian keeps so much of his pain hidden that he needs to let go and cry for all he has been through. But short of that, Brrasso's hug lifted him to a point where he needed to prepare for his next battle.

One thing I love about this show above all else is that it actually portrayed the Empire in its prime as something of a threat. Yes, there is infighting and there is corruption (revealed in the show through ISB competition and the side comment about the Navy covering up failures respectively), but as an organization, its influence is hard to deny. Even when the show pushes forward with having a riot that has levels of success, the Empire would still hold a visible edge. For every Imperial taken down, four civilians would be apprehended. This is a stark contrast to how other shows would portray the Empire, where they are just disposable goons that just get mowed down for story progression; like in Kenobi. The story *says* that the Empire is to be feared and not to be taken head-on, but what they *show* is sweeping the floor with them with only one or two casualties.

Despite being Star Wars, this series is down-to-earth, it doesn't rely on fantastic but impossible solutions because it's about people like us. Everything matters, every action has consequences just like in real life. I enjoyed the journey with these characters and look forward to seeing more of them. Great scripts and superb performances complimented by a thoughtful production. Andor is Star Wars at its best for adults!

20:12 I really liked that moment that is missing in almost every reaction, it shows the respect all the town had for the Andors, and how united the community was, Casian did not even doubt it, he knew he would not betray him.

34:13 The won't though. Cassian didn't know what the Death Star was in Rogue one, right? It was the Empire's very top secret project. Not even Saw knew of it until it was too late. Had Cassian known about it, what he was building, Jyn wouldn't have needed to convince him about her father's message.

The most incredible parallel to Nemik's manifesto, like you touched on, was the convergence and change in tempo of the bands and the unified people of Ferrix vs the scrambling Empire who are so arrogantly and haphazardly configured at the start of the showdown. A unified people, workers united, a *natural* state of communal existence creating this tsunami-like forceful wave vs the empire's unnatural (and clearly fearful) attempt to organize and fight against that current of a people unified - I mean it was absolutely stunning, like visual poetry! I have loved watching you guys react to this series and you've got a new subscriber in me for sure! The pure love and expressive joy when you guys watch Star Wars together is so palpable and genuine, it makes me feel like I'm watching with my own very cool, very nerdy husband and friends 😊 Just wanted to say I appreciate you! Keep up the awesome work!

The Death Star being made via slavery makes it next level despicable, but remember, we know he never finds out he was helping build it. In Rogue One he never even heard of the Death Star until Jyn told him about it... and we know how that ends so yeah.

I could watch multiple seasons of a show about nothing but Brasso fleeing the Imperials and hopping from world to world, helping out innocent people as he goes, however they need. Be it odd jobs, just being someone they can count on, or once in a while knocking some pirate or Imperial heads. He's the best dude. Period.

Marvaa's speech seems to have changed a lot of people's views, from the snitch to Syril's Sargent Mosk to Luthen. Season two, according to the showrunner Tony Gilroy, won't finish filming until August of 2023 so we might not see it until 2024 or very late 2023 (but it will be worth it!)
