Thanks to everyone for watching! I'm very excited to record my next song, since my brother has been asking for more for these past couple years... :) I'm hoping sometime in the next couple months it will be ready! As to the mic system, yes, just one over head mic and one kick drum, and I used a Scarlett system (4 track mixer) plugged into Garage Band on my Macbook computer!

I love Brad Fiedel’s score for The Terminator…absolutely iconic. Fantastic synth soundscapes.

This theme is awesome. Pops into my head semi regularly. So many times I’m reminded of it from other music.

I may be a bit younger, but it's the t2 theme that gets me often.😅

Fantastic cover from Mark. Thanks Andrew.

Fun fact: The song is written in that time signature because the composer accidentally added a couple of beats in his drum loop and just rolled with it, as far as I remember

Andrew - I am so thankful you watched and reviewed my video! You were on the right track as you started writing the rhythms out on paper…I was actually corrected a while ago on the time signature, as it’s 13/16, not 13/8! Sorry to confuse 😂 I realized that I played this entire song in 2 bar phrases, so that the 2 measures of 13 would even out…thus I kept an 8th note pulse in my head, but it’s really a 16th note rhythm. As I was writing the drum parts, I would stretch out the ideas over that “2 measure” feel, so that both hands and feet could still find the downbeat together (when there wasn’t an ostinato). All in all, it was a really fun project, and I am so enamored by odd-time signatures, so my next video will reflect that!

Highly underrated soundtrack album actually. Also, love when your reaction video's often have more than just "reaction". You sometimes include your perspective/philosophy, discussion, advice/teaching etc and even homework. In addition to setting you apart from other reaction vids, the constructive element adds further enjoyment for me personally (altho i tend to be on the nerdier end of the "cool spectrum" ..as you could probably tell by my taste in soundtracks, so take this for what ever it's worth). But anyway thank you!

For Terminator 2 the time signature was replaced with a simpler one, for a more mainstream audience I guess.

It kind of reminds me of Dream Theater's The Alien and something Mike Mangini would write. Amazing cover.

Wow he liftetd this soundtrack to become a piece for the bigger venues! Exemplary lessons on the odd time signature. The 13:th of August is my birthday - so yeah - thats odd.. =)

T1 is 13/16 because it was recorded on a solo keyboard and not quantized. T2 then re recorded it in 4/4

This is a little confusing because he put Sarah Connor's opening monologue from Terminator 2 over the theme of The Terminator. The Terminator theme is in 13/8, but Terminator 2 is in 12/8 (or 4/4, if you will).

He appears to have a Focusrite 2i2 to the left of frame, which is what I have. So probably kick and overhead.

Who knew? 13/8. Andrew, your machine vs human description makes sense though. Some kind of robotic, odd time signature is what you'd do given the theme of the movie. RUSH does some 13/8 in Jacob's Ladder but its a little easier to count. Some say its actually alternating 6-7 though. Great video!!

I could play this, but god knows I can't fucking count it. I thought it was in 7, then someone in the comments said in 13, but I also managed to count 12. I have no idea.

In my opinion it's a 13/16 time signature. Way too fast for the time unit being 8th notes!
@hextatik_sound Жыл бұрын
I can go with both. 13/8 feels better here but 13/16 is fine too IMO.
@markjrhodes Жыл бұрын
You're right Rakesh! I was corrected - I just think in 2 bar phrases as I play this song, so it felt a little easier to write my drum parts in an 8th note pattern...thanks for watching!

Mark, great performance man! I also love odd time signatures, especially the ones with 16th note denominators. Do you know Celestial Terrestrial Commuters by the Mahavishnu Orchestra? It features the legendary jazz-rock drummer Billy Cobham and is in 19/16. Fun tune to play along to.
