Beautiful - the size is more like a hatchet, but the thin blade clearly indicates, it's a small felling axe. Maybe a backpacker's axe.

That is one MAFNIFICENT anvil. I hope to add one of those to my shop as a companion to my 200lb Peter Wright. I really love those when the get up into the 300 pound range, the working decks on them are absolute monsters. As-is my Peter Wright will take care of me for the rest of my days and still have many decades of use in it.
@robsonez
@robsonez 5 жыл бұрын
Depends what your making I guess. You can only work so much anvil at one time. I'm a bladesmith and large anvils just mean large pain in the arse to move. Only working a small area. My fav is a 45lb. Clean edges, step and horn are more important
@drstrangefart
@drstrangefart 5 жыл бұрын
@@robsonez I did put myself together a 50lb ASO on a stand that is a wonderful little bastard. I went into smithing looking to primarily do blades but right now I'm getting pulled farther and farther into general blacksmithing and working blades out when I have proper good reason to do so. As it stands I'm a few months into learning how to do both, so I'm okay at them but not great yet. I also have a big stumbling block with my belt grinder which only has 1 speed: STUPID FAST and I need one I can slow down quite a bit so I can do my grinds without worrying about blowing a temper every 15 seconds because there's too much friction. For me a heavy anvil means less noise, better use of the energy from the hammer swings and more surface area to work on longer projects comfortably like tongs and ornamental blacksmithing.

Thumb up for both videos, excellent restoration but I would have done a leather sheath more that a metal security. When you lower it then you are at risk of hurting yourself with the protruding part. Anyway it's just an observation, congratulations. Ciao da Venezia.
