I am 68 years old and TODAY I finally understand my hair type. I have struggled my whole life trying to manage my hair. In the 60s, the Afro freed me for the first time! I had an enormous fro and felt hair confidence at last. But corporate America wasn’t into the fro so after college the real struggle began. Perms, relaxers, heat...you name it. And none of it really worked. Anytime the humidity was over 60%, my ‘do’ was history. So I did the big chop and I’ve been here for roughly 40 years. When short, my hair is an acceptable mix of frizz and curl. But it MUST be cut frequently or the old problems return. And now add the more wirey texture of grey hair into the mix. Now I want to try the Wash and Go technique. Based on your EXCELLENT video, I’m thinking I’m 3c, 4a, maybe some 4b, porous and thin in some spots from damage over the years. It’s definitely worth the effort and who knows; my new growth may make me proud! I wish we had historically understood our unique beauty. Thank you so much 😊! After all, better late than never!

I don't get why people react so strongly about someone not accurately describing their hair. If they say 2a curly hair, you know what they mean... Personally I didn't even know the difference and thought that "slightly curly hair" was a good catch all while figuring my hair out (might be because second language and all). I've seen so much backlash at people, like "your hair is not curly!", "don't say you have curls, it's just wavy!"... where is that outrage coming from?
@user-js7kb5fe7v5 жыл бұрын
@@tf7602 well when people with waves say they have curls it's simply incorrect. i have 3a curls and i also don't go around talking about how hard to manage my kinky hair is because i simply don't have kinky hair. it's just so annoying because they are trying to claim something they don't have.

T F well, curly hair, especially in the United States was frowned upon. Today it is glorified. Curly hair is a unique traits of the blacks; the majority thereof. There are some blacks who don’t have curly hair and some who’s hair rages from 1-4. I’ll give you this example, I had my hair in a protective style cornrows the other day, someone complimented and said nice dreadlocks. I had to tell them it was cornrows. We can go on.

valerie carbucia I've been natural straight for 8yrs but over the 30 years I've been in and out of natural particularly while in University and during part of my secondary days. My perm wasn't to get straight hair but because my hair knots and locks easily. Don't want locks so I struggle when not in protective styling. Can't be in protective style as scalp is sensitive. And to kill the situ, I don't do wigs. However, I'm now opening to experimenting with good wigs. Just hate when I see them on some people's head and it looks 'Wig. My headmistress in primary schl wore wigs....do I associate wigs with that...ok enough of my rant😚

I used to straighten my hair daily and bleach it loads when I was 13-19 - it was so damaged. I then started getting depression real bad and I stopped caring for my hair, and in the past year or so it's started getting really curly, it was always thick, and frizzy, but I didn't realise it was actually curly because of all the damage I did to it. I'm coming up 24 and just starting to look into hair care for my hair type - I think I'm in the 3s (Not sure where), but I'm sure I'll know more when I get a silicone and sulphate free shampoo and conditioner (I found some, my next hair wash will be with it), and when I do the other things people recommend for curly hair :) Can't wait to have natural, healthy, curly hair :D

I have the straightest hair on the planet. Perms do nothing...even professional perms. I blame it on my northeastern Native American genes cause I don’t have much body hair either...lol...makes shaving easier to! While I really wish I could get some body or curl, I’m kinda glad I don’t because honestly... I’m so lazy when it comes to haircare. I think keeping it natural is best. Nature loves variety & we are all perfect the way we are. Doesn’t mean jazzing it up sometimes isn’t good...yeah it’s fun! I just love when women keep it natural. Power to the natural beauty we all have and thank you nature for the wide variety!! Hugs my luvs!! Oh and lady, you are absolutely stunning!!

wildstyle203 wildstyle203 are you talking to both of us or specifically me? Cause I’m no idiot when it comes to that! My best friend happens to be Choctaw & I fully understand. This is unnecessarily becoming racist & there was never any intention or desire to go down that road. It was a simple comment about hair texture with no additional intentions. Some natives have straight thin hair & some have kinky curly hair like my niece of a Cherokee tribe. I personally find mother nature’s variety beautiful. So please take your anger elsewhere. This was so helpful. My hair is thick and naturally curly. It’s weird. I don’t quite fall into any definitive spectrum because my dad is Native American. Like 100% Choctaw and my mom is black. It still makes it insane to control my hair so i usually keep it short and wrap it and get it flat ironed. Recently i began just wetting it and letting the natural curls go but without the right products, it wasn’t living its best life. I’ve been watching videos more and idk whyyyyy i hadn’t began this journey sooner. People always say “you have good hair” but like you said, it’s the hair care that makes hair good. I’m on my way to good hair! Thank you!!!❤️

I feel you, mine also changes within one strand, because it is so long, that it goes 2a to b to c from top to bottom and the very bottom usually does a little curl if I put styling product in it... problem is, gel is too much for the top and middle parts, but great for the bottom, foamy styling products are too light to define the bottom properly :/ haven't found the right thing yet

I'm white and I've always struggled because I never could find hairstyles who would fit me because of my hair type. Mines between 3a to 3c. People would either destroy my hair because they would treat it like it was straight, or they would make me black hairstyles ( I have literally nothing against black hairstyles, it simply doesn't look good on me, and specially because I'm white and for some reason people around me think it's weird for a white girl to "steal black culture" when in fact that's not my porpose, my hair just really works with those hairstyles.) So I never know what to do with my hair... I have the same hairstyle since i was a little kid. And it's so frustrating because I want to change! Also my hair is damaged. I thought about cutting it really short like an undercut but besides looking like a 14 year old boy since I'm not a really feminine girl, my hair would look like pubic hair (which already happens with my baby hairs)

Hi Angela, I love the hairstyle in the 2nd part of the video. How did you achieve the look? Is it possible for you to do a tatotial from start to finish? I've tried it and love the look, but I can only achieve that look after wearing a coiled hairstyle that's about 2 or 3 days old and drying out.
@lisasophiekaps7 жыл бұрын
Does the two inch rule to find out your texture apply to all hair types? I have straight to wavy hair (about 2a to 2b or even 2c naturally, but if I blow dry it or repetitively brush it while it's drying I can get it to almost 1) for my hair though it only really gets wavy about 2/3 or half way down. I guess that's because it's rather long (down to my chest) and that could explain why it's kind of 'pulling the waves down' and flattening them at the top. So when I loom the first two inches it's more of a 1 to 2a but when I look further down it's more of a 2b to 2c. Hope this question makes somewhat sense😂 By the way I really loved the video! I was so informative and taught me so many new things especially about more curly hair because I didn't know too much about it since I have only ever really had to deal with my own straight hair😍👌🏼
