Vince Bernau really?? Since when does NOT eating meat kill you? In fact eating meat kills you faster because of the link to heart disease and diabetes. What a moron. EDUCATE yourself and evolve. ALOT of ppl are becoming vegan today. There's absolutely no need to eat animals in this day and age.

Battery farming is one of the coldest and most heartless actions that somehow remains legal. Hens produce better quality eggs when on soil and don't need to be swept out since their manure is absorbed into the ground.

As usual, you see the evil within people displayed in the comment section. You see the happiness of animals being free, having life, and you can only muster up how good they taste. You're a disgrace to your kind. We humans have the option and capacity to show them the kindness they deserve and you CHOOSE not to. Shame on you.

I rescued some battery hens, they were adorable. They were bald, sad and confused but soon grew feather and had a whale of a time outside in the fresh air. Each had a wonderful temperament,were lovely pets and I never ate chicken again. No one needs to eat a living thing, there are plenty of alternatives.

I’ve had livestock, but small because I’m in the city. I’m well aware of how animals are treated so I turned almost my entire backyard into a large cage with houses for different animals. I had chickens that had free rein, rabbits had their hutch... only 1 male. They can fight. Had a garden as well. I try to give them all a happy life. Worry free and plenty of food. I even get meat birds, chickens designed to produce meat in less time, and didn’t allow them to just sit and eat. I forced them to get up, run around with the other chickens scratching and doing what they do. I miss them. I raised them from babies so my layers, meat birds and rabbits were used to me and very comfortable. When it was time I hired someone else to do the job because I would cry inside when the thought came. So I cry and a straight dude, get over it! Love is love! Just treat your animals with dignity. A life is a life worth respecting! Unless you’re human. Then you’re on your own. Lol

Good for you to spot that ! But every once in a while a terrified cow manages to escape from the slaughterhouse, and I can imagine that cows, who'd be saved from the slaughterhouse, would feel and act this way - overcome with joy, nomore fear and pain, free at last ! Same goes for pigs, chickens, etc.. ALL living creatures should be living in peace. IMHO : the human race is an inferior species. Selfish, cruel and (most of them) care for nothing but themselves.

Our closest biological relatives, the chimps, used in experiments. They deserve a life of freedom and peace. Why can't we see the need to cherish all life, not just human life?
@Ljevlja
@Ljevlja 6 жыл бұрын
It makes me sad to think of how many of these species are treated for commercial gain, however, I have nothing against eating these animals. If you've raised them healthy, gave them a good life, and then eat them, it's a natural cycle. All animals are part of a food chain, with or without humans. Most animals in the wild get killed, probably in an even more brutal manner than how one would go about slaughtering their pig. I'm strongly against how these poor animals are treated for profit.
@Besserly
@Besserly 6 жыл бұрын
Milos Levnajic the thing is that modern, industrial farming is not natural at all. That's where 98% of meat, dairy and eggs comes from. Animals are bred to be slaughtered. That's not natural. They are mutilated without anesthesia or pain killers. They are confined in cramped, dark, filth. All of them are still babies when they're slaughtered and none of them want to die. Physioligically and biologically, humans are most similar to herbivores and we can actually get all of our nutrients and avoid disease like heart disease, cancer and diabetes with a plant based diet :)
@Ljevlja
@Ljevlja 6 жыл бұрын
I definitely wrote that in an awkward way. I didn't mean to say that I have nothing against eating these animals, in the sense of industrial raised animals, I meant these animals as in chickens, cows, pigs etc, but brought up in a healthy environment. I absolutely agree with you, this should be stopped, but just like many evil industries in the world that do nothing but hurt others and poison the consumer, it will go on unscathed.
@Besserly
@Besserly 6 жыл бұрын
Milos Levnajic How is it natural if we're breeding them into existence, feeding them drugs, artificially impregnating them, mutilating them, caging them? What if it's unnecessary and they don't want to die when they're merely babies, let alone be killed at all?
@Ljevlja
@Ljevlja 6 жыл бұрын
Stacey B I don't think that you understand the point I'm trying to get across. When I think of a domesticated animal I think of one that's free to roam my land, eat fresh food, and when the time is right for slaughter, there is a tool that knocks the animal out, after which it doesn't feel a thing. As I've said, it's a painless death, whereas in nature it would get ripped apart. And I'm not saying that's bad, it's nature. But we're part of nature too, and if we take care of the animals that are on our farms, then we are also part of a cycle. Domesticated animals, and this is totally depending on the farm they live on, have a much better, easier life than their wild counterparts. Again, I want to stress that it depends from person to person how they treat their animals. I'm talking about myself and others who care for the animals. On an opitmal farm, they certainly have a better, easier life, and at the end of the day, an easier death too. I hope you understand that I'm not advocating for commercial farming and slaughtering, I'm strongly against that. Also, on your point of animals not wanting to die, it's unavoidable sadly. I mean, no creature wants to die, but whether it's gonna be a predator that rips it apart, or it gets knocked out and slaughtered, death awaits these animals. And I'm not trying to be a jerk, but animals in the wild rarely get to die peacefully of old age.
@Besserly
@Besserly 6 жыл бұрын
We are on different pages, that is true. but I am not misunderstanding you. Where we are not communicating is in that it is not necessary to breed or kill these animals. It is not "unavoidable". They are bred for the purpose of being slaughtered, so you cannot compare their killing to wild animals. It is not in any way part of nature, either, and even if it was, nature is irrelevant to a discussion of morality. So once one overcomes the commonly held misconception that it is normal, natural or necessary to kill an animal who doesn't want to die, (all babies, nonetheless), then one can understand that there is a more compassionate way of living that doesn't require taking someone's life.

Nancy Ann we have had hawk attacks in the past! The chickens have gotten really smart about taking "cover" under trees and bushes! We have 3 big livestock guarding dogs also that keep them safe from foxes and raccoons! We did install decoy owls on the roofs on the barn and building. It also helps that our place is heavily wooded! We haven't lost a chicken to predators of any kind in years!

Last summer we adopted 8 battery hens and they are doing so well now! When they came they we confused and scared. They we terrified of us but now a soon as they hear us they run up to us, because of them we make another area for chickens and adopted more. (still very shy) it breaks my heart how their treated forced into cages, at least give them a good life! Though im not vegan i hope all these animals are given a better life.

Oh how beautiful! Thank you for sharing that. Id love to hear more about them. Unfortunately, in modern animal agriculture, there is no happy life for animals. Even eggs that end up in packages labeled "free range" or "cage free" come from chickens who are raised in intense confinement. All animals used for meat, dairy and eggs are slaughtered when they are very young, most still babies. :(

I'm really happy to see all those cute and innocent animals to be free. The pigs,chickens, cows all the farm animals roaming freely. When I was watching this I was feeling as if I have taken a pain relief and enjoying the happiness. This new year I will make a resolution to be vegan. When I will grow big and start earning my own I would contribute half of my income, so that our earth will again begin a new start, where everyone is living happily.

I’m calling bullshit on the cows. I live in a farming community in Scotland and every spring after the cows do this after they are taken out from wintering. It’s not because they are happy to not be killed. It’s just what cows do.

I am a vegan I just don’t have it in me to eat something so beautiful. I think about what they go thru the torture they are put thru just for meat. On a dairy farm when mum gives birth she is whisked away before she can even see the baby she gave birth to. Then the baby is put in a pen with all the others that was just born. If she has a Bull calf they are killed because they have no use for them. Mum is put right back on the line because they have the most milk then. I could go on telling what really happens out there with animals. I am sooooooo happy to see all the babies going free they should all be free and happy

This video isn't going to make me turn vegan or anything, but I do agree that some of the ways we treat farm animals is not okay. So despite not being vegan I do make sure all the meat and eggs I eat are obtained from free range farms and have been animal welfare approved. I don't believe not eating meat altogether is the solution, but I do agree that practices need to change. If I'm going to eat a steak I want the cow to at least have had a good life first. Also before you try to guilt trip me into being vegan, even if I wanted to go vegan I can't for health reasons. Please respect that.
@Besserly

Ethan I wouldn't guilt anyone. I ate meat for 37 years. The blame is on our society and the untruth that is passed down through generations that we need to eat animals to be healthy, when in truth eating animals causes a great deal of disease. At the same time, sharing factual information isn't the same as guilting. So in response to your comment, I would offer a few thoughts. Are you eating at restaurants.. ever? Those animals were factory farmed. Cage free, free range, organic, etc.. those animals are still factory farmed. The labels don't mean what you think. Free range can still refer legally to eggs or chicken that comes from an industrial shed. But regardless of how "happily" an animal is raised, they don't want to die. They are all babies when they're killed. So if we can be happy, healthy and successful without hurting anyone, then why not? There's no reason someone can't be on a plant based diet. There are impracticalities and difficulties but no instabilities. If you'd like help taking steps, I have resources in the description. Thanks for caring.

Stacey B I have an iron deficiency and the only way I can get enough iron is by eating red meat. I am aware that vegan substitutes exist, spinach is high in iron and I could use tablets. But the easiest way is just to make sure I have a steak once a week. In my country we have something called "SPCA Approved" and what that means is that the animal welfare organisation in my country visits the farms and ensures that the animals are kept in humane conditions. But ultimately, at the end of the day I don't see humans eating meat as being any different from a lion eating a gazelle. Hominids evolved eating meat and, yes, prey doesn't want to die. At the very least, I can be satisfied that what I eat had a good life before it ended up on my plate. I don't tend to go to restaurants no, can't afford it.
@Besserly
@Besserly 6 жыл бұрын
Ethan Well, it's completely different because biologically and physiologically and instinctually, humans are herbivores whose brains run on and evolved from glucose, not animal protein. The length of our intestines, our digestion time, the shape of our teeth and jaw movement, the alkalinity of our bodies are all like herbivores. Also, unlike the lion, we have the ability of contemplating the morality of killing other beings unnecessarily. It can be very difficult to unlearn living on the killing of other animals, but if we do, it can bring much happiness to ourselves and others. Good luck to you! :)
@EthanolAcid
@EthanolAcid 6 жыл бұрын
Stacey B I see your point, though at the same time you're wrong. Hominids have evolved eating meat, it's how our brains grew to be as large as they are. The reason we have small jaws and intestines is because Homo sapiens specifically have evolved to eat COOKED food. Cooking meat and vegetables helps to get more of the nutrients without needing large jaw muscles to do so. Also, if you look at our teeth structure, it's much closer to that of carnivores such as cats than it is to herbivores such as cows. And while we have the capacity to survive on a fully plant-based diet, the healthiest thing for us is to be omnivorous. That is, eat both plants and meat. As for the morality of it, I also have to disagree there. Predators target easy prey; they eat sick, old or injured herd members. This lets the healthy herd members thrive. I don't think, for example, a lion killing a gazelle is a bad thing or means that the lion is immoral. And while human meat consumption isn't the same I stand by that I don't believe it's a bad thing. I do appreciate you being willing to have a civil discussion though. Best of luck to you as well.
@Besserly
@Besserly 6 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Any discussion should begin with civility. I respect you as an individual. I think that it's great that you're thinking critically, and you seem to be able to consider different perspectives. But in response, I have to ask.. would take the position that our intestines were shorter before we ate cooked meat? Our brains run on glucose. With regards to our teeth, what I was referring to was the size and jaw movement. Cats' and other carnivores' teeth are much different. Their canines, incisors and molars are all long, sharp, and pointed for ripping and tearing. Ours are blunt and flat for grinding. Our canines are more suitable for biting hard fruit like apples. Our jaws move side to side, just like all other herbivores. Carnivores jaws only move up and down on a hinge, for ripping and tearing. All of this discussion really takes a back seat, though to the moral argument. You're right. It's not BAD for a lion to kill a gazelle. That's their instinct. They don't have the ability to contemplate morality. We do. We have a choice. We can choose compassion, and we can choose with every meal do cause less suffering in the world.

As another person said, this video won't make me become vegan; however I do not like how animals are treated in places like slaughterhouses, or any place really. If an animal's gonna die to become food, I still think they should be treated like bloody royalty. Also, please don't come up to me with a guilt trip saying why eating meat is bad or whatever. I respect people's decisions to be vegans, and I think people should respect people's decisions to eat meat as well.

TheyCallMeChips I ate me for 37 years. Who am I to tell anyone they're bad? No, not the intention at all but I do hope that one day all people will start to respect the animals' desire to live as much as their own decision to taste meat. I also don't think there's any farm any where that treats beings like royalty and commodities to be slaughtered simultaneously.
@Aimee0206
@Aimee0206 7 жыл бұрын
Please note the last part of my comment wasn't directed specifically towards you, I only said it because I've had people come up to me when I say stuff like this and I, quite frankly, don't like that. The whole farms and slaughterhouses treating animals like royalty thing is something I WISH would happen, honestly. I'm most likely not going to turn vegan, or at least not anytime soon, but I do still think that animals should be treated properly, especially animals that will be slaughtered for their meat given it's their last few days or months or whatever. :)
@Besserly
@Besserly 7 жыл бұрын
TheyCallMeChips thank you for responding kindly. I appreaciate that. I'm wondering do you think that slaughtering them, even if they've lived the happiest life they possibly could imagine, when they have many years of life left, is treating them properly? What if we don't have to kill them at all?
@Aimee0206
@Aimee0206 7 жыл бұрын
So long as they're killed in the most humane and kind way possible and have lived a long and happy life, then yes I would say they're being treated properly. And these days we don't HAVE to kill them because we can survive without eating meat, but some people enjoy eating meat and don't want to live the rest of their lives eating only peas and carrots and there's not really that much we can do to change that.
@Besserly
@Besserly 7 жыл бұрын
TheyCallMeChips No farm animal lives a long life. I agree that we do have a challenge ahead but to Margaret Mead, "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has."
