This is why I like Disney animators. even without a large animation budget you get very good results.

I feel like the storyboard is better then the finished product like frozen, it would have been so better if they would have gone with that design, she actually looked human there.

Sharing this with my friends and coworkers. Thx a lot for posting this. Usually, we spend more time on the pre production than on any other step 'cause it makes the production part easier. The way you approach story boarding will fit like a glove on our workflow

Wow, great tutorial! I always knew storyboards were critical to an animation, however, I did not ever really care for them, and never used them. I did not see them as something really important to the process. Only recently did I realize how essential they are to a process, as I am now working with a group of other people on an independent collaborative film. Storyboards, as I have come to find out, are basically the blueprints for multiple people to use, to be able to create one thing together. Because I had sadly realized this a lot later down the road than I should have, I went looking for videos and articles to be able to explain the requirements for a good storyboard, and how to get the message across to the other animators as clearly as possible. But I found no such article or video that could cover it in a reasonable amount of time or pages, without it going into WAY too much detail. I had honestly given up and came to KZbin to watch a few videos, and clicked on my subscriptions box...to see this video! I honestly want to say, this was the best thing that's happened to me all day; it described A LOT of what i was looking for, in a really good way! you answered a lot of my questions! Thank you SO MUCH for this video, I'm REALLY excited to see what else you have in store for us. :)

Awesome job like always... Sad part is that many of us who are in the animation Industry and are not working for major companies, we have no material time to study any posing or anything at all because usually the client wants everything by yesterday and we have to rush like mad men to deliver on time, so we have to take wild decisions straight ahead while we work... so professionals cannot always take time to make those studies, although the way you explain is the correct way it should have to be done. Congrats, I am more and more inspired everyday by your job. God bless you Aaron Blaise.

Thanks for this video ! I'm actually an animation student at EMCA in France, i have to do a short for the end of the year. This video is really helpfull for me. Of course i like storyboard but i like animation more so i tend to do many drawings and poses when i storyboarding. the actions are very clear but i lost some precious time and the way you explain it makes me realize there is no need to make too much poses. What matter is clear posing. A bit like when you make key posing for animation =) Anyways thanks for it and good luck for your short film ! I'm pretty sure it will be amazing !

Amazing work so far! Also thanks a lot for the tips you gave. If you would like to hear any feedback; I felt the transition of the icebear being shocked by the pile of snow to being very happy and creative with it kind of quick. I started noticing it in the moving storyboard you showed. I think I don't know enough about the character. Right now it seems like he builds snowmans all the time, but I can only guess that since I don't see it in the plot. That makes it a bit unclear for me.

First off thanks for making these videos, I really enjoy them. However, there's a couple of things that I think you can change quite easily that would improve the quality. The first is esthetic. You look trapped behind that desk man. You're an expressive guy, you move around, you make shapes with your hands, but we can't see any of it. The cintiq hides what the desk doesn't. I think there's a better way.The other is a personal frustration. You repeat yourself. Or, they're not exact repetitions but iterations of this concept. The title of the video is: "Clear Posing for Story Boarding." Then you tell us "I'm in the process of story boarding." "It might be nice to talk about story boarding a little bit" "so I want to talk a little bit about posing, clear posing for storyboarding." Then you go into an explanation about why storyboarding is important which is good. And then we're back to "But today, I want to talk a little bit more about, just posing" in the end, one third of your video is introduction.Which is not a problem in itself only for the fact that it feels more like you just talking to us than a concise intro.Once again thank you for making and sharing these videos.

Your video really made my day Aaron, thank you for your effort recording this, your precious tips and sharing this cute story with us! :) Having started an internship semester at a film production a few months ago I got some awesome opportunities to draw storyboards already. This is so much fun and I'm certain I want to improve my storyboard skills far more and bring the team and the projects even more quality. Your video was very helpful for me to realize the essentials for this kind of work and you really know what you're talking about! Therefore I want to ask you about some learning recommendations on storyboarding (like must read books or online courses). I stumbled about some already and I'm not sure which one might be the best one among them yet. Or do you by chance plan a course focusing on that topic? I'm looking forward to your next video! :)

Beautiful drawings Aaron. You know though.... The idea of the snow bear to becoming the sculpture was a bit quick and could have done with more of a moment of realisation. No matter how pretty the drawings are and how brilliant the anatomy is; surely the comprehension and connection is more important at this stage- you can always spruce the keys up when you know that it works. Sometimes really great drawings can distract from the unfolding story ( sometimes)> I think that's what's happening with this scene. I want to see this with super rough thumbs and no music.... does it really work yet? Does he look into the snow and see the possibility of a real friend, staring back at his loneliness? Like a face in the clouds? Remember 'Wilson' the volleyball? I'm not sure Aaron. I do Love your work btw , I just want to offer an honest reaction, this scene could work better.

Hi there Aaron, I was wondering if you could tell me how long it generally takes you to do a 5 minute short? The reason I ask is that recently I finished my studies as an animator (Though i have so so soooo much to still learn) and was thrown straight into the deep end with storyboards for a company on the other side of the planet. Very often they expect a storyboard for a five minuter in no more than four days including the timing and camera movement which is generally handed in a PDF format. Is there any advice you could give that can aid me in speeding up the process or any tips you could give to a newbie? Kind regards and a big thank you!
