Depends at what lvl you play, but Mercy in my experience is a problem when both teams stack equally. Her pocket healing is an issue on Pharah, Widow, or other problematic DPS, especially if your tank is subpar at controlling space or using them poorly. Mercy has to die to win fights, because the problem players keep getting rezzed. In my experience I'm playing all 3 roles.

7:07 Just looking at the range of Kiriko's kit and ignoring numbers (well that headshot dmg is insane but think in OW1 she'd prolly do half the damage she does with kunai and probably also personally purify whoever she tp'd to and heal a bit more on left click and I'd bet she'd be an alright character too) you can see the "bloat" between support philosophy for OW2 healers and the OW1 healers. In my opinion its an understated problem how much it feels like we're bloating the kits of some supports, hell Juno is basically Lucio 2.0. Think about it if Lucio is a sword that has some sharper points in a few aspects then Juno is basically a Lucio Brand™ swiss army knife and just has so much more utility on top of some pretty sharp bits of kit herself.

I have to agree. Using rez as an ult is something I miss. Using it to pick up with tempo rez or beam juggling was so fun. You have to juggle now but it feels unrewarding. They seriously made her feel like a ow2 hero with a loaded kit in ow1.

Honestly when they buffed Sombra and Orisa then subsequently nerfed HP I knew it was over. I moved on to mostly playing Juno and some Ana now. It's sad cause mercy's movement is so fun. Denying kills with a rez is fun especially when you get away with cheeky rez's. I think they need to nerf Tanks and nerf damage all together. Sombra is a good example of an OP character in low ranks when your teammates play with their headphones off. It's sad that the dev's don't really know how to balance their own game because they don't play. No hate on Sam! This is a good take.

First of all THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO Samito! I know Mercy is not loved a lot by the community but i think that right now, the state that she is in, is troll pick material. I play mercy since the begining and have more than 1k hours on her alone. I play mainly on glod/plat/dia and i could always make her work. Even as a low skilled char the ones that knew how to play her did make her work but right nowwww... unplayable. I agree with all that you said. With the HP reduction rezzes mid fight are a suicide mission, using valk to contest the point is useless since she just dies. And the lastest buffs just made sure that she is now, more than ever, in the pocket playstyle that i personally hate. The problem with the pocket style right now? There is no dps to pocket. Maybe ashe? And only because of bob that gets the tank passive. Right now the best pocket is actually JQ of all the chars in the game XD I would love to know the "stats fine" mercy because even in plat/gold mercy is not getting played or is the first sup to switch (EU servers btw). Why pick mercy if you can pick Juno, Moira or kiri? (Moira is actually a menace in lower ranks XD) It's so sad that my Juno has a 60%WR, my LW is at 57%WR and my Moira is at 75%WR and my Mercy right now is at 38%WR. The character that i have more hours on... It's a shame but i finally understood that they don't want to touch her, rework her and right now they are just hoping that the Mercy fanbase migrates to newer cute chars (i see the scheme blizz you are not fooling me). I have so much ideas for her but... it's not worth it, specially with marvel almost upon us! I hope it's understandable since english is not my first language!

Terrible character design anyway, needs to go back to the drawing board. I think the philosophy in general has changed a lot and Mercy doesn’t make sense anymore - a person who exists solely to enable someone else in the most boring way imaginable, holding in a left and or right click, which also makes her beholden to a DPS to hard carry while also annoying the hell out of the enemy dps trying to duel someone who’s getting that extra attention. And looking around hoping Mercy doesn’t get a 2000 DPI spin in place 20 feet above the rez spot revive after you just worked god knows how hard to secure that kill all for it to be undone by, once again, a button press. They need to make her way more interesting to justify her existence and not so reliant on someone else to do the job for her.

That would either require them to dial back existing support that are pretty much DPS but healing, or to make Mercy into something she's not. Neither of these things will happen, because Hero Identity is sacred, and reworks don't change too much anyways. A lot of starting OW characters has been power crept into irrelevance, but hey, instead of soft reworks to keep everything in line, or better yet, smart designs of new characters that wouldn't do everything old ones did but better and at no cost.... We need Battlepass with bunch of garbage, few okay skins, and mythic weapons for 50$

@@nihili4196 Because she's one of the OGs, she most likely will never see the changes she actually needs as she's just a fine entry point to people who can't really play the game otherwise, and honestly, I think that's fine - it's absurd to even think a character that requires so little input SHOULD be in GM, EVER. Moira and Mercy should not be good enough to ever be in GM in my opinion; purely characters made for people who do not have mechanical skill in even the slightest degree, so they should not be competitive at the highest levels of the game. That might sound harsh, but it's just reality. However, even with that being said, I would probably suggest to anyone starting out that actually wanted to become competent at specifically Overwatch to never pick either of those characters because you wouldn't learn a damn thing about the game. But, if they just want to have some fun in Quickplay and feel like they're contributing, then those're fine picks.

because she a uniquely pockety character with no reusable ability/positioning knowledge. if you get into into the game playing mercy its understandable that you literally cant play any other hero at a similar level without intensive practice, like relearning the game. its not something a lot of people want to do, theyd rather just have fun playing the game as they know. its a different story if someone is trying to climb, of course you can one trick but if ur specifically willing to put in the effort climb i was forced to relearn the game in different heroes

As a Tank/Support, Mercy has been the bane of my existence lately. The amount of effort I have to put in for so little in return is exhausting, having to rotate Ana/Bap/Kiri for her & not because I want to is exhausting. The chances of winning drop dramatically when she's on your team & hearing that backpack support complain even ONCE is an immediate block/report. More than half of my avoid slots are Mercy, very few cases where I've had an actual good Mercy player that can play around myself/team & not be entirely dependent on us to do everything for them

worst take i ever heard. res is already broken as a concept and bringing back tanks at half HP will just increase the the amount of times a mercy res staggers your team. if you make res too powerful it leads to a one-dimensional meta where the only relevant target is mercy. does that sound like fun for anyone?

Widow and Hanzo have to work for their One Shots, it’s not mapped to a Button on CD, and Mercy is already the Bane of all Sub Diamond Lobbies. DPS for some reason just have Blinders to her and LW specifically so they just out heal all the dmg done. They acknowledge Juno’s existence but more often than not shes too Fast for them to hit

WAAAA” You ask the same players to pick up Hanzo and perform even slightly as good as they claim to be the “Easiest” hero in the game and watch them drop a fat 0 elims and 15 deaths. I’ll never understand the distain for him, especially when an Ashe can HS and Body Shot you in roughly the same time it takes for Hanzo to Charge and Fire his bow, and get the kill. Or Kiriko who has a way easier Projectile to hit consistently just two tap Head Shots you. I might have another concept? Instead of giving her more health, I think Mercy needs her GA cooldown back to 1.5 or 1.8. Her skill shouldn’t be based on when she should fly and get screwed when she rezes outside Valk. It should be positioning and being careful when overextending. So perhaps… 1.5 or 1.8 GA cooldown Nerf the distance of her GA outside Valk? So if she goes in to help, it’s easier to punish. But if a Mercy plays smart then she can actually escape instead of being able to be chased down by so many characters that have decent mobility. Don’t make her easier by giving her more health, she’s already easy to play. Give her that skill of escaping and having that survivability chance that other supports demolish her in having while also having better dmg than her. (Kiri teleport, Moria fade, Lucio wallride, Juno flight and speed, etc.)

the problem with mercy isn’t the fact she’s “easy to play”. it’s that she’s TERRIBLE right now and has been since season 9. nerfing her movement will only make her even worse. As a mercy player that’s consistently been gm/top500 for 5+ years solo queueing, what she actually needs is a revert on her ga lockout nerf. in high ranked lobbies her mobility is nothing compared to most heroes in the game. her movement used to be a LOT more fluid and skilled in overwatch 1 but when overwstch 2 released they completely dumbed down her GA and added a cd lock out, which feels TERRIBLE. nerfing the cd will only make her feel even worse in high rank.

To be honest, I think she’d be just fine if they didn’t touch the distance either way, but that’s the only way I think these devs will be willing to lower it back to where it was… I’ve been praying for seasons for them to fix it back and they just refuse to admit it’s not working for her. At first I felt it was something that mercy players just had to adjust to… but it’s obvious by the numbers that it’s not good for her. I could honestly care less if she was one of the strongest supports cause I know her kit is no where up to par with the other supports now. But at least give her that much to make her at least USEFUL. Or fun!

Here is the thing you are not seeing. In a perfect balance game the top 500 would only be composed of high skill celling characters. High skill celling characters should be the most "rewarding" to play. There is only one way you can make it "rewarding", play potential aka power. So yeah, on a environment where all players are supposed to be high skill, only characters with the highest potential with are supposed to be locked by the skill celling are supposed to be played. I believe Mercy is exactly where she should be. -"Perfectly balanced... As all things should be." Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that the game is balanced. Its far from it for sure. Just that Mercy is for the current state of the game.

I've been scrimming in 6v6 for a charity tournament, and the difference is just night and day. We have so much hero and comp variety - and yes, even Mercy is great. Every DPS is playable. Every support is playable. Tank is so much more enjoyable than I remember it to be, even while being killable. I really hope the 6v6 tests go well, and that we settle on 2-2-2. Focus on expanding the Tank and Support roster and we'll have more playing those roles. 6v6 in OW2 is better than 5v5, and I'd argue a better 6v6 than OW1 even!

If 6v6 actually gets balancing then it's back to OW1 stellar days! OW2 is literally unplayble unless you're an arcade player. I have yet to hear anyone say that "5v5 is way better" who is in a position of knowledge (like streamers, pros or high rank youtubers). The reason no one played tank was because tank didnt get balanced at all. We spent 1,5 years without a single update where tank was a miserable role because the devs thought "more damage is the solution to shields"......... The format was not the issue. The devs being completely unable to balance their game was.

Every mercy below diamond yellow beam rides the tank, when they're full hp and heals no one else, let alone dmg boosting. I feel bad for everyone dealing with it.

@@u-5-v9i obviously that’s not true, maybe some players do that. In metal ranks, heal hitting is probably most useful. Blue beaming DPS who hit 1/5 shots is useless. But beaming someone who can hit shots takes over the game lol

this is the one hero that is perfectly ok being in dumpster tier. regardless of how bad she is rez is still extremely frustrating to fight against. in marvel rivals you can destroy rocket's beacon and adam doesn't rez to full hp but here the only way to counter it is to stun/kill her (which is not exactly ez when she can zip around the map and rez behind cover). not to mention the almost non existent mechanical skill requirement (only second to moira).

He is absolutely right. Iv been playing mercy since 2017 and this is the first time i felt like the character isn’t playable. I stopped playing it 4 seasons ago its so sad they literally killed her.

Mercy is never going to be the worst hero because so long as you can pocket a great DPS she'll find value for edaters. Someone like Genji who even when played perfectly has little value throughout his entire kit is who SHOULD be in mind for the worst hero. Mercy isn't great but she CAN and DOES win a ton.

Mercy is just horrible rn. She’s a horrid pick into anything meta dive/rush, has almost 0 synergy with anything meta rn. Honestly she shouldn’t be meta and juno is a “more healthy” version of mercy (no self heal flier who’s goal is to healbot+pocket to spam ult to win fights)

idk I do really well with her, because me and the other healer are there my team doesn't die and with her Ult chaining now it helps a ton so I don't think shes the worst, she's strong and fun though I think they should change her Rez ability to something else but i think shes strong and most people who don't like her don't use her proper

Tanks are so broken, but such an easy fix. Put the dps passive back to 20% on tanks, remove headshot reduction. Mercy's broken with 250hp, she gets valk way faster now with 60hp/s

To me a big sign Mercy is in a bad state is the fact that having the best player on the team being her is worse than if it was any other character. There is no such thing as carrying as Mercy.

@@tamooz6649 I disagree, to me carrying would mean you're the main reason the team won and that's just not possible with Mercy, unless you're a top 500 in a bronze lobby getting multiple elims with the pistol, healing and damage boost are only as good as the teammate you use it on.

I think they went 225 with her just to stick with the pattern of mobile heroes going 225 in that patch. But it's pretty silly, cause they know they can't do that to a hero like Genji. So they threw Mercy away but wouldn't kill off the 2 Genji players left? Weird. If they're gonna choose to leave 225 and buff her elsewhere, I'd still find it crazy when Genji has 250 and just a weaker kit than he could have.

I’m just tired of when people say that 5v5 is only a problem for tanks. No, it’s a problem for every role. How do people not realize this. At least someone like mercy can be played in 6v6. The only way she can be played now and give your team a chance of winning is if they super buff her.

Mercy isn't bad because of 5v5 she's bad because she has always been bad but the skill ceiling of players has risen so Mercy hard limits of what players can do with her has been reached. The reason why plat players are referenced as to why Mercy is fine is because they use stats based on every player so of course, the data will never be accurate to top 500. Also saying that a single damage boosted dps can't kill a tank is only true if tank has support in which case you'd be shooting the supports not the tank. A Winston has 500 health he will very easily be torn to threads by a damage boosted Ash.

13:26 "minority if players should suffer instead of majority" No. Simply no. Especially when that minority is whole ass role. I can understand some changes being made unplayable, as Overwatch's piss poor and lackluster approach to character and ability design that they had from the inception is biting them in the ass once more. I would much rather see Tanks being removed, reworked and thrown into DPS section than to have that approach. You know why? Because game will keep getting worse. And if one whole class will realise they're getting shafted and nothing will be done ever to fix it, no one will play it. I used to play tanks, all of them. Now I'm back to occasionally playing them, but if that role will once more end up the worse role in game for more than three seasons in the row, I'm becoming a Brig main, and I'm never looking back. That's amazingly stupid take, i love you man, but come on. That being said, i fear that if Blizzard were to ever try out 6v6 again, they wouldn't change tanks enough and blame it on format instead of years of trying to make 5v5 work.

I like Mercy for when I've had way too many beers or it's been a long day at work and I want to backseat for a bit/roll the teammate dice for some chill SR. I feel like blizzard is fine with keeping her niche and her fanbase will never quit playing/feeding them cash. If they want Mercy buffs boycott buying her skins. They'd give her 2 rezzes again and not even wait for a mid season patch. Thanks for such based and honest takes all the time. Its clear you care about this game a lot like I do. Feels like an abusive relationship at this point but I still have a lot of fun so fuck it. I finally got some pro coaching from Spilo who's a great dude and man I can't believe what a difference it made. I am a Kiri main (sorry man😂) and my winrate went from 54% average to 71% last season and im undefeated to start this one and getting POTG while averaging 21 elims per 10 when I used to average 5. Its unreal what a great coach reviewing your gameplay/habits etc can do.

I used to main Mercy and Moira as my go-to Supports. Mercy was simple, and I loved the mobility. Moiras healing numbers were nice, and I liked the balance of healing and getting kills(she's also my favorite Support in terms of character and personality). But Juno has killed both completely. She has the mobility, and everything else in her kit is just fun to play with(she also fills the role of the "cutesy" egirl who's gonna sell lots of skins). I've played literally every healer, and Juno is the only one who's been completely fun in every way(aside from maybe Moira when I wanna just chill and kill)

I am a real one trick Moira. It's only thanks to Moira that I still play Overwatch because nothing gives me more fun than her smooth mechanics of healing and dealing damage. I love throwing orbs. Throwing orbs at the right angle is an art in itself. Juno is meh...

@3timesBanished-fi7vg I get this 100%. As far as the Juno comment, like I said, its all in the mobility. She has a good ult, and her speed boost is good for herself and everyone on team. She provides the same shit Mercy does(minus rez), with added utility, and the ability to heal and kill at the same time. She puts Mercy to shame. I can still see myself playing Moira, like I said, she's the only support I like as both a character and for her gameplay, but I just dont see myself playing Mercy anymore 🤷🏿‍♂️
