When I was going to get my four gerbil siblings I was told they were all boys. About a week later I notice one of them showing symptoms of a respiratory infection so I went to the vet that day. I did and we were talking to the vet and she started calling the gerbil a she and not a he. My mom corrected her and the vet looked at us funny for a second before telling us he was actually a she. I started to freak giving I was thinking she could be pregnant or something from the others. I’m not ready or even want to help raise babies. We later went in with the other three and got them a gender check. I was so happy to find out that they were all girls. But I was also upset giving I was told they were boys. The funny thing is I got them last year on April first. What an April fools joke...love your videos!
@DrDeliciou6 жыл бұрын
Lol well luckily whoever determined they were males made the same mistake with all of them. So all the people getting males actually got girls and those getting girls actually got males. Hope someone didn't try and get some males or females to make babies and nothing happened.

That would be horrible haha. I did contact the person and they checked there gerbils again so that was good. But honestly I still think about them messing up again and it just is the same.

Abby, I saw a side of your personality that's really funny and a little carefree! That's a first, because I see a lot of myself in you when it comes to anxiety and the need to be in control at all times, as well as a bit of a worry wart and a desire to do everything to the absolute best of my ability and giving 110%. Those are good things, but sometimes it's good to get away from constant routine and be a little spontaneous, which is a little bit of the way you sound today or tonite, whatever. That's great and great video!

I have two intact males that have lived together for the past 2.5 years since I adopted them from the shelter and yes they can get a tad bit territorial but an easy way to prevent that is having double of everything and open ended tunnels and places from them to go if a confrontation was to arise. I love my boys

Hey, it's me again, I was watching this video again, which I do quite often,btw,lol,but anyway I just looked at some photos of the piggies on Facebook, and they are absolutely amazing! I looked at some of them closeup and they are gorgeous! Butter pecans colouring is stunning, Rum Raisin is so beautiful with such beautiful fur, and Nami has a face that looks like it should be on a guinea pig calendar! They all look like they should be. Angus looks like a hairy pirate like Blackbeard with his fuzzy face which you really can't see that well on the videos. They are all just precious and baby Reese with her wisps of hair definitely looks like a Sheltie. You are truly blessed Abby, but you sincerely deserve it!

Great video! We just rescued a baby and her momma. We did get a store cage but it was always meant to be a temporary home for them. We think baby and momma have experienced some sort of trauma as momma won’t leave baby and is always shielding her. Momma will come out to the sound of my daughter’s voice and baby will eat hay out of her hand. We love watching your videos and learning about the best way to take care of our piggies. I bought 2 male babies from a pet store that got along great at first & now they can’t be alone together. Even with floor time ( in an empty bedroom) with so much space, they are vicious with each other. Was looking at getting a set up similar to yours but can’t put them together. Any suggestions. We have had same sex pairs without issues in past.
@littlepetpaws47636 жыл бұрын
Teresa McGonagle Well,since piggies should be in pairs I recommend trying to neuter both your males and getting a female piggie for each,if you don't have the money for two new piggies,I heard from a vet you could neuter males and that would help when trying to rebond them but that's never worked for me personally.Just make sure all of the cages are above or at the minimum requirements,hope this helps xx
@skinnypigs16 жыл бұрын
All depends on personality and for boys depends on how big of a cage you started them in. They need at least 28 by 70 inches to be happy and some require even more space.

I fostered two piggies who previously had been fostered in another home for 3 months. They were absolutely terrified. Hated the nail clippers, and screamed bloody murder all day long. If I took their bottle to refill, they whines and cried until I gave it back. Poor babies were scared they wouldn't get their water bottle back 😔 I ended up adopting them, along with their foster sister, just because felt so bad for them 😔

Hey I was wondering, I have done lots of research on this and different things say different things but, do guinea pigs from pet stores get spayed/neutered before people buy them or do you have to still pay the extra dollar to do so? I honestly need help on this matter. Love your channel and your piggys! Keep up the good work!
@skinnypigs16 жыл бұрын
Pet store pigs are not neutered. If you rescue you can find some that are spayed or neutered, otherwise you will have to save up for those procedures yourself. I adopt spayed females from a local rescue or you can get neutered males. If you are housing same sexed pairs, then you don't need them to be neutered.

So, curious question. I only have cattle as point of reference here and I know there is a vast difference of course, but herd/prey animals between; with bulls when they are even matched, same age and pretty much same size they are much more likely to fight than when there is an age difference so that it is obvious who is top dog, have you noticed anything similar with piggies? I can imagine that if the boys are siblings they figured out who is top dog early so they would be less likely having to figure it out later but I think I have heard stories of brother piggies have conflict in a new environment like a new cage. Messy question there but have you noticed something similar? That obvious age difference can make a difference? I know you said it's all in personality and of course it is so, but this detail has had me curious a while. So many people buy several piggies within a short time frame so ages are often close to one another and herd interaction and behavior fascinates me. :)
@HarrietFitzgerald5806 жыл бұрын
Ambi Cahira I had adopted two brothers and they quickly fell out once they hit their teens. I was able to pair one up with an older boar who was extremely laid back, as the younger one was definitely bossy. I've found pairing is really hard or maybe it's just because I've come across so many dominant piggies. I think past that teen phase it really does boil down to personality. I had one match up, two boys, that worked and it was a very odd match; never would've thought they'd get on, but they did. Also and this is just an idea I think a pair could be harder in that the relationship is so intense, in that they only have each other, maybe a group is somewhat easier, more friends and if someone is bugging you, you can walk away and see someone else. I dunno, never have had a herd, but pairing up boys, what an adventure!
