can you give your opinion about what the best cost-benefit M1 PRO or MAX, 16/32/64 MB RAM ?? for Photos processing only using (Lightroom + Photoshop + Luminar AI/NEO + TOPAZ Denoise/Sharp/GIGAPIXEL) stand alone and Plug-in. Thanks

Thanks for this. There are tons of videos out there showing how long it takes to process a video, or how long it takes to process a monster pano, etc. But this demo is way more important to me. I totally agree that making the simple task of scrolling around so much better is a great improvement. I would love to see a similar demo with a lower spec'd macine to see how it does. I have one of these computers on the way and it is reassuring to see how well it works. As you say, they are not cheap computers.

Must be the same result on the iMac 24 inches with M1 (Version 12.0.10)?

It would be interesting to see how quickly the M1 renders images while editing in Photoshop, or in Topaz denoise or sharpening software. That's where my current 27" iMac (2017 model) feels really sluggish, and I plan to replace next year with the updated 27" models.

Thanks. Basic and probably a stupid question: how can I be sure I'm running the native M1 version of LRC on my MBP M1 Max? Nothing in the About box seems to indicate the version (Intel or Apple) and in Creative Cloud, the dropdown menu at the right of each install app suspiciously shows Intel. Thanks, Stefano

I recently purchased a 16" Macbook Pro (M1 Pro). Really quick. On my old Windows laptop lightroom was really slow and struggled with Pano merges. On my Macbook I have opened 30 raw files from Lightroom as layers in Photoshop in under 2 minutes.
@SubiTrekker3 жыл бұрын
Your comment got me to time my pc. 27 raw files downloaded from LR into PS as layers in 1:26 and that's with PS needing to load first. I guess I just saved myself $3K.

I see you have a 2TB internal drive. Do you keep the library on that drive, or on an external? I've been wondering what kind of speed increases I'd see on the 24" iMac with my library on a spinning (not SSD) external drive.

I have a new iMac 8 core and 8Gb RAM. I am using it for general use, so didn’t need the 16Gb version. Out of interest, I tried processing some of my 50mb Canon files. Everything is much quicker than my iMac 27” 5K, even opening files from LR into PS.

Just got back from a week-long trip where I used my old 2016-ish MacBook Pro, and it was somewhat aggravating now that I'm used to the performance on the M1 Mac Mini I got almost a year ago. Since the M1 Mini is way less expensive than a new MacBook M1, people might want to consider it if you don't need the portability of a MacBook, especially if you already have a good monitor to use with it. 🙂

Hi Anthony, I have some questions that would be great if you can answer :) - Where do you have located the LR catalogue (Mac hard drive, external hard drive...)? - Where do you store your photos during the development (Mac hard drive, external...)? - Do you think a 16GB Ram would be enough if I store the LR catalogue and photos for the development in an external hard drive like LaCie? Thank you!

Good timing on the video! I just ordered mine two days ago, can't wait. unfortunately,I have to wait till the first week or two of January. ordered same spec.s except for 32GB unified memory as I would never exceed the 32gb as I'm not video intensive at all. I also went with 8TB to future proof my storage because I wanted to have a full working copy of my whole image file on the laptop so that I don't have to have external drives plugged in. I wish they had a 6TB option because that would've been the one I would have chosen. 4TB is too close to where I might be in 4-6 years. I'm currently using a 2016 MacBook Pro, and it's slow to even render thumbnails, stuttering scrolling etc. Thanks for all your videos, they are very helpful to an enthusiast bumbling my way through Lightroom. I'm slowly working my way through 2.3TB of images from 2006 to present keyboarding them so that I can find things in the future, otherwise they are just lost images sitting on the drives.

I have the same M1 Max 16" 32 gigs RAM, and when I run LR and PS I often get an error saying that I am out of application memory. Apple says this is a known issue and the engineers are working on it.

Known issue? Ugh. That's not good. $400 or 64 over 32. Might have to spring for it.

Thanks for the video. I traded a 2019 16" MBP that had spec bumps for a 16" M1 Max 24/32/2TB and this thing flies! I haven't. heard the fans spin up once. The 2019 would sound like a hair dryer on high with even the slightest pressure put on the CPU. Affinity and On1 are definitely quicker on the new machine and render HDR and Panos much quicker in both programs.

I have a the 2021 MacBook 16" M1 and I find it incredibly slow to go between images on the develop tab. I shoot real estate and I could be shooting multiple homes in a day and I need cull 100's of photos quickly. It lags like crazy. I just switched from a 2013 MacBook Pro with the old hardcopy of Lightroom and it was way faster. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

The speed of the Apple M1 chip is incredable. I recently upgraded from a 13" MacBook Air 2017 to a 13" MacBook Air late 2020 with the Apple M1 chip. Processing a 50 Mega Pixel image with Topaz Denoise took 7 minutes and now with the new MacBook it's under 12 seconds! Amazing, really amazing.

Hello Anthony first let me say how much I’m enjoying your channel, I always enjoy your tutorials and learn from them! I’ve always been a pc windows guy but with Apple’s new M1 systems I recently bought a 16” MacBook Pro M1 max, 32gb ram, 1 terabyte drive for use editing photos and video. I’m struggling with learning the Mac Monterey O.S. However I’m sure I will eventually adapt to it. So far I have a couple disappointments that I hope in time will get fixed through software updates. I enjoy using NIK filter plugins when editing in photoshop and sadly non of the versions seem to be compatible with M1 / Monterey O.S. Which is a real bummer. Also Topaz Studio 2 would not run unless I enabled use of Rosetta (not sure what that is) but it seemed to slow down Lightroom and photoshop and the Topaz Studio can only be used externally from photoshop. I’m hoping an update will come along to not need to use Rosetta, and allow use of NIK filters and Topaz Studio 2 with M1 / Monterey O.S.

My 16" M1 MBP is painfully slow when I'm scrolling through my images. I only use JPG files and after 7 or 8, I get the spinning ball. Very annoying!!

I would like to see you do a similar quick review the M1 Mac Air. My surprising experience is that it is just about as fast as the first MacBook Pro M1. All day battery life. Far less expensive. No fan, runs cool. As fast or faster with LR/ACR and PS as my 27" iMac (latest version.) A bargain for enthusiast photographers. I am not bothered by the smaller screen size, but others might be. Best laptop I have ever had. I suspect the Mac mini M1 would provide similar performance. Don't know how they would take on the challenge of heavy video editing for KZbinrs such as your self. Thanks for you good video.

And the worst part of buying any new Mac these days, except for maybe the Mac Pro, they cannot be upgraded as all components are now soldered into the motherboard. Steve would be spinning in his grave right now. Well done Tim, not a good move.

Just wait for the big iMac to come. It will be even faster.

I bought a similar configuration. Mine was only 32/1TB but it’s still amazingly fast. In fact I bought a custom built PC from Puget Systems last year made just for Lightroom and Photoshop. The MacBook is faster. In fact I feel like I “over bought”. I’m sure that a lower specd unit would be just as well. I would love to know how you keep a catalog at home and one in the studio in sync on Lightroom Classic. I’m currently tracking over 235,000 images in my catalog.
@robgerety2 жыл бұрын
I am curious - do you stitch big panos? How does that run and export etc. on your M1 Max? I am deciding now whether to go with 32 or 64 ram.
@LarryFasnacht2 жыл бұрын
@@robgerety I’m currently on vacation in Florida and working off of the laptop entirely. I’m struck by how much faster it runs than the custom built Puget systems $5000 computer I bought last year. The M1 MacBook Pro runs rings around it. I’ve got 32 gig memory and I’ve never gotten close to maxing it out. I think it’s overkill. In fact I think the Max processors are overkill as well. I know from my sensor monitor that the fans have come on but I’ve never actually heard them. The battery life is incredible compared to every other laptop I’ve ever owned. It’s just amazing machine. I overbought though. I don’t do huge panos maybe 3 to 9 images. But the imports and exports run so fast on this machine it’s not even funny. Topaz labs, which I usually have to wait for on my windows PC, run almost in real time. I’m glad I didn’t get the 64 GB, in my case, it would’ve been a total waste of money.
@robgerety2 жыл бұрын
@@LarryFasnacht I suspect I am in your category as far as use case. I am editing big raw stills (Canon R5) including occasioinal panos and then a sort video here and there. I do want this thing to last - might be my last computer.
@LarryFasnacht2 жыл бұрын
@@robgerety My files are from the Nikon D850 a 45 megapixel camera and I also shoot raw. It handles these like they’re 6 MB JPEG‘s. Speed wise. You’ll love it.

@@LarryFasnacht The other issue for me that relates to ram is live music recording/tracking. The music folks are telling me to go with 64 GB. Its not cheap - $400 for 64 over 32. Still unsure but since this is my last hurrah, and I am fortunate at this stage of my life to have the resources, I'll probably spring for 64 gig in part to future proof but also knowing that it could well be a waste of $. I cannot wait to get this new machine. Unfortunately, wait is what you have to do these days. The shipping estimate is end of July.
