Oh I Lord, I really wished you were still doing videos. You're the best teacher on YT for furniture, walls, reliefs, stencils, Etc. You cover EVERYTHING. No one else does and I'm wanting to start a buisness on elegant, classy home interior painting. I want to be Different from all others I've see. Nobody loves Old world decorating more than you and me. Lol Plus, I just enjoy listening and learning by you. Where did you go? I haven't seen any new vids by you in years. You know, I live on Lookout mtn on AL side, moved here from my home state of FL 15 yrs ago to get away from too many people. So I just wanted you to know that I liked to watch your awesome paint makeovers to those big gorgeous homes in Atlanta, they looked fantastic! ☺️

thank you for this informative video! great job. I understand that this technique works well with the types of furniture that have frames etc. where the glaze stays after wiping, but what if I need to glase a simple painted stool that doesn't have those? Its very basic stool, just legs and the top, and I wonder what stays and where when I cover it with the glaze and wipe afterwards. I painted it in nice yellow, but wanted to add some used antique look with dark edges and some dark patina around the joints. But the issue is that using your technique the glase at the edges, where I do want it to stay, will most probaly get wiped off. What do you think I shall do to make it look like a want? And would the whole thing work if I use watered down dark acrylic paint over the main layer of paint, also acrylic? thank you!

Looks great! I have newly built kitchen cabinets. This is exactly the look I’m going for however I was told to use poly acrylic, after paint drys, I’m using Kelly Moore, then glaze to keep the glaze from soaking into the paint to much? Ive painted & polyed on one large cabinet already then going to glaze with Gemini oil based vandyke brown. If so, would I still use paint thinner over the poly to control the glaze on it also? Then I guess I’ll use poly again after glaze... Thank you for your videos! Thanks for your help!

Hi Linda! The glaze is oil based to achieve that smokey smooth finish rather than for durability. Everything else, primer, paint and sealant are water based. I have spray painted my kitchen cabinets wth the Benjamin Moore Advance also and am so pleased with the buttery smooth finish. I really like the look of the oil based stain that u used. The end result seems to be smoother, no streaks compared to the mixture of water based glaze and latex paint. I am having difficulty finding the oil based glaze. Do they sell a water based stain? Great job and techniques! Some questions if I may. You mixed the alkalid paint with glaze? What was the type of glaze product? Can I thin the alkalid paint with mineral spirits or just an alkalid-based white base to the right consistency and shade instead? The idea is to thin sufficiently to spread easily, right? I was considering using general finishes glaze but I like the idea of be able to adjust the color and consistency. Thank you in advance!

Never mind on the glaze product, I saw your answers. But still, what do you think about thinning the artist paint with a white paint base or some mineral spirits, for example.

What would you use instead of mineral spirit if you are using water based glaze on chalk paint?
@arteesta9527 жыл бұрын
Water. It won't give you as long of a window to work as the mineral spirits and oil base glaze but you can still still achieve the same look. You'll just want to move fast.

I watched your kitchen cabinet video where you also glazed using the BM alkyd glaze and mineral spirits, but you did not do a top coat on them, as you did these. Why is that? I was told at the BM paint store that the glaze doesn't require a top coat after drying (he said once it dries its washable). I just painted my cabinets with the Advance and am going to glaze them, but would appreciate if you'd share your input on using the BM glaze WITHOUT the extra sealant process. Thanks
@arteesta9525 жыл бұрын
Hello TSR in Tn, I ALWAYS top coat a FULL tint glaze technique as in this video. For this technique I use a matte finish paint because it has the "tooth" to receive the glaze. The thin sheer tint of glaze will rub off with use over time if you do not seal it. The only time I do not seal is for the clean style glaze where the glaze just lays within the crease and not a tint pulled over the surface. I use a satin or semi sheen enamel for the base paint for the clean style so it is a tough finish coat like trim paint. I hope this helps!

Your the first one I've seen pre wet with mineral spirits. I'm going to give that a try.
@arteesta9527 жыл бұрын
Please let me know how it worked out for you. For me it's the best way to achieve that smokey smooth finish without streaks. It offers a longer work time before the glaze sets up and makes the glaze more pliable. I'm amazed more people aren't doing it this way!

I am new to this and trying to understand :( There are 3 total 'ingredients' in the tupperware correct? Paint, clear glaze, and oil paint right? So first I would put the paint in the tupperware and then add in the glaze that I would have already tinted with the oil paint.. is that correct :)
@arteesta9526 жыл бұрын
Hi Jewelyn, Check out some of my other videos that shows the prep steps in detail. This video is detailing the artistry. I tint my glaze with paint and that is what's in the tupperware. I saturate my paper towels in mineral spirits which is why that is in tupperware. I hope this helps! :)
@kimwheeler70396 жыл бұрын
what color paint did you add to the tupperware??
@kimwheeler70396 жыл бұрын
or is the glaze tinted? you used raw umber oil paint mixed with glaze but the glaze looks brownish before you add it to the tupperware LOL so confused!
@arteesta9526 жыл бұрын
Hi Kim, Raw Umber is the color of the paint. The glaze itself has no tint in it and is clear although because it is an oil based it is cloudy and does have a yellow hue to it.

Can the glaze be put on over white chalk paint? I already started with a base coat of white chalk paint before I saw this.
@arteesta9527 жыл бұрын
Absolutely Toni! In fact, chalk paint grabs the glaze wonderfully while high sheen paint doesn't allow the glaze to grip and it's hard to get that full tint as it wants to slip right off. I am using an eggshell finish paint here. It grips well yet it's easy to smooth out.

I do not remember the exact paint color. I recommend bringing several swatches of paint colors in the space where your furniture is so you can see how it looks in that exact lighting. Lighting is everything when it comes to color! What you like in a paint store mike reflect quite differently in your home. :)

I think it you be easier to remove the door and laying them flat to glaze. Cheese cloth can get expensive. Use old T-sheet material. works better.
@arteesta9527 жыл бұрын
I buy my cheese cloth in large bolts from a fabric store and it's quite affordable in bulk. T-shirts don't give me a smooth enough finish for my taste but if it works for you go for it! That's wonderful! Everyone should adjust every aspect of every technique to meet their personal needs. I also prefer the door hung so it is secure and does not move. I do them loose for my sample doors and it takes twice as long as it moves around and is more challenging to handle . But again, everyone should adjust and do what works for them. Thank you for your input Jo Lind. I'm sure there will be those who will benefit from your advise for sure :)
