The biggest issue with bleach was that the old anime didn't capture was kubo was trying to portray in his work. Now with tybw since Kubo is heavily involved, you can really see the potential that Bleach has with it's story

You know what's so funny, you are absolutely correct about this, and you don't realize it unless you read the manga, and watch the anime, far apart from one another. It's sounds dumb how I'm saying it LOL but like when I first watched this as a kid, I saw the first few episodes and couldn't wait to see more so I started reading the manga (yes BLEACH is what got me into anime/manga 🤣), and to this day it's still arguably the best manga I ever read. But because I saw the anime right along with it, I sort of was watching it with the lens of the manga, so I didn't realize everything that was being left out. Watching it again as an adult, I can see all the differences now. And it hurts. It's still great but it just doesn't capture the essence of the manga like it should have. Too many censorships, too many rules forbidding the emulation it was supposed to do. TYBW is showing me that if Kubo had this much control of the entire anime, this would have been EVERYONE'S favorite show LOL 💯💯

It was the era, look at naruto, one piece, bleach, and even some db kai stuff from 2004, all anime of the mainstream HAD to check numerous boxes. Had to be eventful, action oriented, and have gags. Gotta fit a niche of roughly 12-13 year olds, with brand appeal ip and down by a few years, say 8-17 so not a single one looked or felt like the books. Wife n i are on the long haul of Naruto shippuden right now, her first watch, my third. The tonal things present in the anime, just feel like the 2004 era. Before studios and mangaka worked relatively close to one another. Before directors started to embrace owning the visual style of a project. Bleach and tybw are night and day different. Bleach was my fave, im interested in showing my wife that saga, but im trepidatious about showing her regular bleach before we get a hard confirmation on if pierrot and kubo decide to reanimate bleach. If they do i will not be showing her the old one

Now that i think about it The Final Getsuga Tensho REALLY resembles Uryuu' Letzt Stil. A one shot one kill attack and both lose their powers after using it

The Zanpakutō is my favorite weapon in fiction. And when this was all first revealed I thought it was the perfect embodiment of what it always represented. These are blades literally forged to be imprinted by a soul. Don’t makes sense the final stage beyond Bankai would be a full understanding that the user and weapon are now one. I just adore the complex themes and subtleties in Kubo’s writing!

One thing i would like to point put the aasuchi were rejecting ichigo because ichigo was also rejecting a part of his soul, his hollow and Quincy powers and asauchi being the reflection of soul were doing the same thing. Once ichigo accepted those parts of his soul he was at peace and so were the asauchi as he accepted those parts of himself asauchi accepted him

This whole thing only makes sense that if you see ichigos zanpaktou as a double blade like shunsui. He just wasnt aware of it and his quincy powers supressed his shinigami to avoid the conflict with Ywach

Fantastic video! I would disagree on just one detail, though. Pre Kenpachi fight I would agree that Ichigo saw Zangetsu as just a tool, but after and by the time of his first encounter with Yhwach I would say he saw Zangetsu as a partner. Both mindsets are incorrect at the end of day, but those shifting mindsets are part of Ichigo's development.

I love seeing breakdowns like this. It's not about powerscaling or why the MC is such and such. It had never been about that with Kubo's writing. His poetry carves a deep, profound message in our hearts concerning death, love, sacrifice, our soul and self-acceptance. Bringing to life an imperfect world of relatable and diverse people all connected through past traumas is no easy feat. Giving us a character that just wants to protect the people in his life and learns/accepts his past and present soul in order to possess the strength necessary to do so speaks so much more volumes than becoming the Pirate King or Hokage. As much as I love shonen and hold Naruto and One Piece dear in my heart, Bleach will always be special. Because as much as we delve into this fictional world, we delve into ourselves. Knowing that people recognize this intricate, poetic and complex masterpiece for all its depth makes me happy. Not enough people give Kubo credit for the effortless craft put into writing Bleach.

There's a comment on bleach subreddit that I think is the best interpretation on why the power system of shinigami/zanpakutou is really great. It's basically comparable to the Japanese "three faces" idea. Unreleased state is the face you present to the world: unassuming and subtle. Shikai is the face you show to the people closer to you, the face that you want to be looked as. While bankai is basically your "truest" face.

OH! White has black armor let say it's a "CLAD TYPE" Ichigo's powers ARE CLAD.. he puts hisl reiatsu for that cover of clothes. And they hinted at Ichigo's true bankai. And why ywhbach broke it. Isshin during the fight states: it grows stronger AND more intelligent after every kill. So ichigo's bankai has the ability to evolve. Similar to Kenpachi shikai and Bankai

My biggest issue wasn't the way this was revealed or the fact that it was a part of the narrative it was the fact that this information wasn't given to Ichigo LONG ago. Like sure very mature that Ichigo wasn't going to push Isshin for what Ichigo believed was personal information that wasn't really relevant to the situation at hand, but Isshin had to know that the information was HUGELY important to Ichigo's chances of success. This is a centuries old former noble of the afterlife he's certainly informed about how these things work. Isshin had to know that his son would be far more capeable one he knew the truth about himself and yet he's fine contnuing the lie as though it didn't have any impact on weather or not Ichigo would survive. That's my problem with this part of the narrative, everrything elsed about it was brilliant. Everything But the Rain, The Blade Is Me.... Awesome.

Now that we are into cour 2 i can make a comment in this video that also plays well with the whole "Blade is Me", Renji unlocks his banki first in order to save Rukia, but later with discover that it isnt his full bankai bc his zanpakuto never told his full name and i think this plays really well with how Renji never saw himself as enough, for Rukia after she went to a noble family, always in the shadow of "bigger men" like Byakuya and Ichigo

I think old man zangetsu is just his Quincy powers merged with his shinigami powers and white is his hollow powers merged with his shinigami powers. This makes Ichigo unique because of heritage his zanpakto has 2 spirits representing it instead of just one like other shinigami.

And this is where the plot hole emerges. Why did Urahara even think that his training was going to give Ichigo a zanpakuto. Urahara should have known about the whole Oetsu thing and shouldn't have known that Ichigo had a pseudo Asauchi inside him. So how exactly did he think his training was gonna give Ichigo a Zanpakuto. If Aizen hadn't made white, that training would have failed

Would like to point out that jugram didn’t break zangetsu in two with ease, zangetsu was already highly damaged from clashing with Ywach , plus ichigo was having major inner turmoil which effects his powers making it easier to over power him. Finding out he is Quincy was a major shock plus the grief he was suffering from thinking all his friends in soul society were dead. But yeah. Jugram wouldn’t have been able to break zangetsu with ease if zangetsu was not damaged.

the blade is me is the biggest retcon and ruins it for me, like white was such a heavy part of ichigo and the fact that zanpaktou just became souless tools, was so ofputting, and the fact that white didnt have a single voice line in TYWB was criminal, remember when zanpaktou spirits were a thing, heck renji and ichigo both had scenes literally speaking to them, and then the blade is me happens and all the world building out the window for the blade is only a extension and its hilarious that kubo doesnt even stick to it considering all the ausachi in the royal palace or shunsui talking to his on the verge of death, or the fact that kubo was involved in the zanpaktou rebelion arc, it was so weird that kubo instead of building on this concept instead went for the laziest ''the blade is a tool'' such a waste

Ichigo isn't a hybrid, he is a quadbreed, which in itself explains why he is so strong and why his fraction of a power he's used the whole series rivals that of captains. It makes me wonder how much stronger his muegestu would have been if he had known everything back then. In the bleach universe you can argue that Ichigo is a perfect being.

Maybe my opinion will have changed by the end of the video, but the fact that "The Blade is Me" twist means that now Ichigo is INSANELY MORE POWERFUL THAN EVER BEFORE kinda ruins it for me. I've seen this reason being used all across fiction to create hype so many times it bums me out nowadays. Besides that, Ichigo was already on a very high power level before discovering the truth, and you mean to tell me it was just "a fraction of his true power"? Oh man, c'mon. It's not even the first time, for some reason Ichigo was always unreasonably powerful (Soul Society Arc) and gets more or less random power-ups when the story calls for it.

Also Ichigos second zanpakuto, his first real zanpakuto, was equivalent to an Arrancars zanpakuto because it used a Hollow Konpaku, even if it's inner parts were more like the Asauchi than a Menos.
