I followed the video and checked everything including the pump. Narrowed it down to the tubing being clogged so disconnected, let out all the drainage that was backed up and ran a snake through the hole in the sink drain to the end of the tube to clear out. Put everything back together and the dishwasher started draining properly again. Thanks to this video I was able to see what I was looking for in the sink drain, eliminate any other possibilities, and clear all connecting hoses to make sure any clogs were cleared. HELPFUL VIDEO!!!

Thank you so much for this video!!! Our Whirlpool dishwasher had a lot of water left inside the bottom of the washer this weekend. I thought we would have to purchase a new washer. But before we did, I found your video and showed it to my husband. He went through the same steps as you did, and sure enough, we had some debris that had gotten past the filter. He cleared the line and we started the washer back up and then sent it through the drain cycle - SUCCESS. All taking just a few minutes. Your video saved us HUNDREDS of dollars!! THANK YOU!!!

Yes! I had the same challenge getting the pump off without depressing the release. I found another video that shows it clearly kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnSUpaCiotWHg5I. Thanks for everyone's help. My issue was pieces of glass had lodged in the pump impeller where it couldn't discharge the water.
@PongGod2 жыл бұрын
@@billg00001 This is exactly what I needed to get that the pump to turn so I could remove it! But how to test that the pump fan will turn. He mentions in the video about "turning the power back on". We have a wall switch that turns on/off the power to the appliance, but simply turning that back on doesn't seem to have any effect on making those blades turn. Is there some other power switch internally that he's referring to?
@CN-bg1fy2 жыл бұрын
@PongGod if you turn power on but don't start the cycle, close the door, and the pump should come back on and spin. I did that for mine and the motor starting spinning. This troubleshooting cleared that step, but didn't solve my problem. Happy fixing!

I'm going to add something to your troubleshooting process. My Frigidare was sporadic on draining. Sometimes it would drain it all, sometimes the whole bottom would have an inch, sometimes, just the center would have water. Sometimes the water was clean, sometimes still cloudy. So, I figured the drain pump was going bad. Ordered one from Amazon at 1/3 cost of OEM and replaced it. Worked great right out of the box. Next day, once again, water standing in the bottom. Kept researching and found someone suggesting to make sure the hose was clear where it entered the P-Trap. Took that hose loose, poked around with a screw driver, nothing there. Put it back together, sometimes worked, sometimes didn't. Today, took off P-trap and found debris in here. In fact, found a metal elbow fitting, like would be on the input side of the dishwasher. This had to have been there for 30 years! Removed it but wasn't satisfied that that was the issue. I am sure this was causing some issues with slow draining but couldn't be the whole problem. My dishwasher draining issue had really become a problem in the past 2 weeks. Went back to the drain connection at the dishwasher, removed the hose and this little black rubber piece fell out, all deformed. Started looking into this and discovered it is a back flow prevention flapper. Cost about $10 on Amazon. It's purpose is to what? Block water that is in the discharge hose from entering back into the dishwasher! I've got one on order, should be here in a couple of days, but I'm betting this makes my problem totally go away.
@ApartmentMaintenancePro2 жыл бұрын
Let us know if that helps. New dishwasher hose can fix this issue buts it not as common as drain pump issues.

I have never commented on a KZbin video before but this was the exact problem that I had and the exact resolution that I needed. I had to read the comments to see that my particular model (wdf750sayw2) did indeed had a latch that I had to depress on the far (left) side to remove the pump. This video sure helped. A month ago my Whirlpool dishwasher started to make a light grinding/ rattling noise but then the noise went away again so I thought whatever it was had self resolved itself. Fast forward to yesterday and it stopped draining completely so I followed the steps in this video to remove the pump, nothing was lodged in the housing and the pump vanes looked fine and spun with the power on. I then tried blowing through the drain hose and found it was plugged solid. Upon investigating I found a little piece of grey plastic had broken off from somewhere in the dishwasher, worked it’s way through the pump and then eventually lodged in the drain hose. It had caused enough small debris to build up over time that it blocked the hose. Easy fix and good to go again however I don’t know where the piece of broken plastic is from but knock on wood it seems to work without it.

It worked! Thank you for the video. As a single woman and homeowner it’s nice to know I can do this on my own without calling a plumber. Thanks a lot
