I grew up in Texas and we often made gravy with bacon grease. If we didn't have enough bacon to go around, we would chop or crumble it and mix it into the gravy.

From Missouri, my grandmother made it all the time. Bacon gravy is still one of my all time favorites.

This is the real deal! When I was growing up and working on a farm, we ate biscuits and gravy every morning. You had to in order to get enough calories to make it to dinner time (lunch, for fancy folks). I've always loved it, and still make it. The only long-term effects I've noticed is my beard turned gray, may hair fell out, and I've got wrinkles all over my face. --Old guy from near Boone, NC

Evening, ma'am! I can happily confirm that this yummy gravy recipe has travelled all the way across the ocean, then the continent. It's something my great grandmother made in the old country (the Isle of Man) then made here in Canada when they moved all the way to the West coast. My grandmother made it, my mum made it, and now i make it for my girls. They often had it with toasted homemade bread in the days when butter was scarce (because of WW2.) Nobody would even consider tossing out bacon fat in our family. They used it for so many things. My granddad's favourite oatcakes (somewhere in the middle between a cookie and a cracker) were made with bacon fat and he took them in his lunch when he was out logging those huge 200 foot tall trees. I'm happy to know we have something in common with the Appalachian people. I bet we share many more traditions that just remain undiscovered. Thank you for sharing!

I use a flat wisk to stir my gravy when its makin, all the stickin together is happening on the bottom of the pan, the flat wisk gets everything off the bottom good. love the video, I grew up on this kinda gravy and buiscuts. My Mom made it all the time.

Looks wonderful - I can almost smell it. Most of my family prefer sausage gravy and I like it fine, but for me bacon gravy it the absolute best, always. :)

When I don't have sausage, I cut 1 inch pieces of bacon and fry it up then make my gravy but I also make meal gravy with bacon or sausage. I could eat it every day but have to limit it to once a month.

Daddy made gravy for us when we were little. There were 6 of us and he browned the floor and used water. didn't like the looks of white gravy. He said it look to much like starch. Toast us some bread to eat with it while momma would get us ready for school. I live in South West Va. Thank you for the video. brings back good memories

Maybe I just wasn't paying attention, but I grew up in eastern Kentucky and I never heard of bacon gravy. In our family it was always sausage gravy.

My grandmother made bacon gravy, sausage gravy, gravy from the country ham, but the breakfast gravy she made that everyone who ever knew us raved over was her butter gravy. Decades after growing up when social media started getting popular an old boyfriend and neighbors were sending messages requesting the recipe. She made it from experience like you’re doing here so there wasn’t a recipe left for us.
