It'd be a proper outing for this car - if you watch any Irish rally highlights programme, it's full of Mk IIs, and then when there's an historic rally, it's full of Mk Is. sup 2years to late, but dude the car is a workout holy shit. impossible to control. but i finally figured it out. but this car is imo the hardest car to drive fast. it's so unpridictiple in most stages. as the short wheel base makes the car spin out of nothing. and it never goes straight.
@jasonmcmillan43732 жыл бұрын
Absolutely my favourite, MKII Escorts were my first and second cars in real life. The BD engine is one of the best sounding engines ever and is modelled so accurately in this game. Not just the sound, but the way it revs and produces its power. I had to spend a lot of time creating a good setup for this car to make it more driveable, but you have to do that with all of the difficult to drive cars in this game. Now that I have that setup, it's just incredible. The H2RWD category is one of the best Dirt 2.0 has to offer, all cars in this category are awesome.

The Ford Escort is still very popular in NZ rally stages incidentally. They probably make up nearly 10% of the 250 or so cars we get going through our local rally here in coastal Otago each year. I wish CM would choose that rally next time they put NZ stages in a DiRT Rally game. It's similar to Hawke's Bay in that it's quite fast but a little different. One thing that is similar actually is how the Ocean kinda emerges over the road. It's quite nice when it's not raining.

I learned the left foot braking & “turn right” before turning into the curve, thing when I was about six or seven when I raced quarter midgets. My grandfather, who maintained my cars (I had two, one as a back-up) referred to it as entering the corner high & cutting in low. He used to take me to Midget, Sprint & Outlaw races from as early as I can remember. I used to watch the drivers & their cars, especially the wheels as they drifted through the turns. It helped me when I started racing. Most kids in my bracket (divided by ages) put the brakes on as they entered the corners. I didn’t. I started high, cut in low & tight, worked my throttle & front wheels, as the rear of the car swang around part way, & thengave it full throttle coming out of the turns. 😊👍🏻 I was blowing kids, in my bracket, away. I had only three rivals. One was in the state east of me & the other in the state west of me. All three of us competed against each other in the Grand Nationals. That was on an asphalt track. I prefer dirt. It was so much fun. My car actually went over a wall, once. (Accident in front of me coming out of turn one. I went up high & one of the cars bounced off the inner most, ricocheted into mine, caught my wheel & somehow sent me flying. Those years were fun. Racing is a rush.

Old comment I know, but I also raced quarter midgets for about a year when I was 7. My dad (ex-stock car driver) was the only guy who had the car up on scales EVERY day. That car was bought 2nd hand with very little work done to it and we were beating kids in the higher age bracket the first night out. So much fun at the time.

@@BunkerBlogYeah, it was fun. I recently found a picture of me with my third place Grand National trophy. I didn't look happy in that picture. 😂 After winning so many races, coming in third was a disappointment, especially because I know that if I didn't have that rear axle bearing issue I would've taken first place. The mk2 is very good but its just a bit down on power to be the best in the game IMO. I tried the integrale for the first time last night.... surprise of the week! I just couldnt stop driving it! It has to be right up there among the best in the game.... alongside the 911 RS, 205 T16 and S4. ;) Most of the cars in DR2 are very good in different ways, all have their own unique handling characteristics. It seems to be that the more you drive each one, the more you learn about its handling traits... the better and faster you get... and the more you love it. A bit dissapointed with the Quattro, too big, boxy, heavy, I find it a bit lazy and too understeery. The 6R4 is also a bit of a dissapointment compared to the DR1 version, It just needs a bit more power.... And make sure you move the torque bias forward about 55% to the front. Default setting is majorly wrong, period.

At the college I used to go to and they had a rally team that included this car but there was a twist.... the Mk. II Escort that they had had the engine swapped with a 1st gen Focus Zetec engine. On one hand it sounds like heresy but it actually ended up producing more power than the original car so fair trade off I guess.
@henkverzeijl15255 жыл бұрын
Sun Solaris Well, as long as it's still a 4-pot Ford engine, it's not considered heresy by any measure. I actually have an earlier generation Zetec engine in my own mk2 RS, which comes from a later '90s mk6 Escort. (The Focus uses the 2nd generation of zetec engines known as a black top, introduced in 1998) It's only a 1.8 16v compared to the original 2.0 8v that used to be in there, but in stock trim, it was already up 20hp compared to the old engine, with less maintenance and far less fuel consumption! Best part is there are even parts available for these (both silver- and black top engines) to replicate the look of the original, insanely high-revving 16v Cosworth engines these rally and racing cars used to have, and can be properly tuned to (very roughly) approach the performance of them aswell. So rest assured, these engines feel right at home in a mk2 engine bay for most enthousiasts!

Jimmy, perhaps you can try the actual right-hand-drive configuration one time to see how that affects your driving skills.

Eh, in sims there are plenty of cars that go from right, central, and left seating that it shouldn't be much of a problem for anyone

curious to know what your vehicle setup is like, the stock in this was practically impossible to drive...at least that's what it felt like for me.

It's all about throttle control. I set the world record on this stage in this car totally stock setup and not upgraded at all. How you drive is the skill, setup tuning will give minor improvements. IMHO of course...

@@ZeddNZ Ya mate. In fact some of my issues have been resolved with a re-calibration of my wheel setup. Now it's a matter of minor tweaks...

@Sean Price ask Jari-Matti haha Nah just good ol nations banter 😋 I was actually happy to see that Teemu Suninen gave Tänak a run for his money in Sweden. And I also like Esapekka. Really what ppl need to be scared of when a certain young Mr Rovanperä makes it to WRC proper. But at the moment I don't believe there's anyone faster in WRC than the Toyota/Ott Tänak combination. He is scary fast. And after touring crashes and lakes he has become ultra consistent. Most stage wins last year and only driver to win stages on all rallies.

Fairly sure I’ve rolled more times in this car than any other, but it’s very fast compared to its counterparts
