I had a chat when I was doing my demo at my local Apple Store with one of the employees. She said that she didn't really "get" or understand Vision Pro. But earlier that morning she had a lady come in, she was in her 70's. She said that her husband had just passed away and that she had lots of videos on her iPhone. They specially loaded her AppleID onto one of the Vision Pros and played back the videos. She was in tears. It was right in that moment where the employee clicked and knew that this was huge. Because just like Jon said, it's rare when a piece of technology can have that emotional affect on you. I just wanted to share that story.

The panos are REALLY compelling. They "feel" real, like you are back where you where when you took them. Like flat photos feel disconnected from reality, like they never look/feel like what it was like at the time, but having the image wrap around you, maintains the perspective you had when you took the shot, like it reproduces the actual scene in the way we always wished photos would. It makes me wish I had taken WAY more of these over the years.

Having them persist outside of “app sessions” , even when they unload out of memory and apps sleep, they still stay at same place in space

@rkarnes630410 ай бұрын
1:01:00 in, you guys start talking about FOV. Here's where the future is going to come from: The current screens in AVP(version 1) are microOLED. This involves an array of white LEDs illuminating underneath a layer of blackout masks, perforated by red, green, and blue light filters. Unless you make larger screen displays (more weight, more power consumption, and a LOT more cost b/c of lower yield), you cannot increase the FOV b/c the amount of angle to wrap light around to a wider FOV would cause illuminated white LEDs to be masked out by photons striking the black filter masking. If you look toward the extreme edges of the FOV in an AVP, you'll notice the beginning of dimming because the blackout masking begins to occlude the white LED emitters where the RGB filters end and the masking begins. THE GOOD NEWS is: There is a new microOLED technology coming up that does NOT require color filters NOR blackout masking! It goes by a name, something like, RGBmicroOLED, where there are white, red, green and blue LEDs on a SINGLE substrate plain with NO overhead filtering OR masking needed. Not having masking concerns, the light from these can be gathered through wider pancake lenses to wrap around our vision to produce a wider FOV. (Also, being on a single-layer substrate, they are thinner -- therefore lighter -- and possibly simpler to produce.) I think the AVP(version 2) will come out with this technology at production scale at the beginning of 2027. Then the screen brightness can be maintained out to a much greater field of view WITHOUT increasing the screen die size!

The only problem with this is you can’t pinch in and zoom on the camera Which if you’re paying $3500 or $4000 at the most, you should be able to pinch into the camera to be able to zoom. That’s kind of bull crap But maybe they will implement that with the cheaper lighter version that starts at $1500 For 128 GB and $2000 for 256 GB and $2500 for 512 GB unless they do 256 GB and then 512 GB and then they do 1TB/2TB For the Mac storage for $2500 now that I could see except I would love it to be $250 for the starting price and then $500 for the medium metal price and then for the maximum price it should be $750. That way they add the ability to pinch inside of the camera to zoom in and know that you don’t get on the original mission release starts at $1500 and then an even cheaper version call the Apple vision or Apple vision light or Apple vision mini that only costs $1000 at the max storage option then I could see it being a replacement to the iPhone and the MacBook and the Apple studio display and the Apple Mac studio and the Apple Pro display XDR and the Standard iMac
