I found a strut zone and was able to come in very early while it was still dark, set up a Jake and hen decoy with the hen on ground and Jake just behind her. When time came for turkey to gobble from the roost....none!! No fear, I stayed, called quietly, and guess what...two nice toms came in and I got my very first turkey!! Thanks for all your great videos

Is there anyway to identify possible strut zones with satellite maps/contour lines?

Our season starts a week from today but there’s a gobbler that I’ve seen 3-4 times this spring already in this strut zone and a couple times last year as well but today he flew down and was there all day long with 2 hens and didn’t move any more than 60 yards. I’m planning on setting up as close to where I think he enters the area. Would you recommend using a hen decoy to possibly have a better chance of pulling him into range or just sit and wait? Thanks in advance and awesome content!

Thanks for the videos. What you are describing is what happened to me yesterday. I had heard one gobbling in a clear cut when scouting preseason just before season around 9 to 10 in the morning. Yesterday morning, after it went quiet we headed to this area and made the mistake of calling before we got there. This gobbler hammered about 400 or so yards off, but started coming in our direction. I set up about 80 yards in the woods just off an old logging road. I couldn't see him. There was a little bit of a rise between us and he came to within about 75 yards in front of me but stayed in the open clear cut strutting and drumming going back and forth from my left to right and back again. Problem is, the clear cut is the neighbor's property, so I needed to get him to come into the woods and to me a bit to get him on our property. Tried soft calling and going silent for a while. A buddy I was hunting with even set up about 50 yards behind me and called to see if he would come thinking the hen was leaving. None of it worked. I could hear a couple of hens with him that he just wouldn't leave. (I got one a little mad, but she wouldn't come either) He walked off after about an hour and a half. It was a great hunt, but frustrating. Any suggestions on how to get him to come out of that zone, even just 20 or so yards to get him in the woods on our property?

Love that saying he who waits the longest kills the turkey. Worked out for me that way 2019 sneaking along the edge of a old logging road on a ridge top on the way out spotted one up ahead strutted out quick setup did some soft calling and boom he closed the distance quick it was beautiful sunny day about 12:30 I was smiling ear to ear.

Can you do a video on how to call them out of a strut zone? More times than not i have them come in within 100 yards and they just stop gobbling and when they do its in the same spot as before. Then after a hour or so they gobble as they get further away.

Hey Dale I just recently subscribed lm in need to get better as a Turkey hunter the information you provided is right on! I especially liked that segment were you said to get away from the hunting buddy that hunts till 9AM an tells you there are no birds. Thanks for that tip , you were right on with that! I see you hunt with a scope on your shotgun what do you recommend for my mossberg 535 thanks 👍

The best strut zone on our farm is a dry dam in the middle of a 20 acre corn field,. Is it better to try calling them off of it or setting up in the open. Getting between them and the roost is the only way I've succeeded when that dam is involved lol

Most of the time the gobbler is gonna get you. But some days you may just get him. From my experience if you have one hammering and you work him and after an hour or so of not seeing him, he's with hens, or in the strut zone. Back out. If he started hammering at 8 am , be there before daylight the next day. Beat him to where he wants to be. That's the holy grail. Don't call at first and just see what happens early. Just like deer, toms make their rounds and he could be a mile away and not make it back for a couple days. If you don't get any action, back out and try again on another morning. If you are unlike me and like Dale lol you can sit all day waiting on him. When the stars align, you will forget turkey hunting is supposed to be difficult.
