Aquapel Glass Treatment - Why it sucks but doesn't suck + Long Term Glass Coatings Follow up

Following up (about a year and a half) on our previously installed RainX, Griots Glass Sealant, and ArmorAll Ceramic Sprays plus reinstalling another product - Aquapel which we’ve been using for well over 20 years and WHY it sucks to install, but works well!

Streak occurred because it seems you missed that spot when applying the Aquapel. It's the streak between "protected" and unprotected glass

Thanks for the video Scott. I have been using the Adam's glass sealant. Got 9 months out of it in West Central Florida sun/heat/rain. Very happy with it.

I have been using Glaco for 4 months and it still going strong, the price is very affordable, and have been applied to 3 three windshields, and i think there are half bottle still left in jar

FYI, you can leave aquapal overnight and wipe off, it will wipe off super easy. We do that to all our clients vehicles.

I’m going to try this next time. I normally just spritz with a bit of glass cleaner to wipe off the streaks/haze. Still holds up for months.

@@Tsuter1978 Give it a shot, when it's wet is hard to remove but when it's dried overnight it's very easy to remove. With some high spots just some IPA. Also try to squeeze all into a container first. Then applied to all windows.

Auqapel in their application video it says to wipe with paper towel after install and leave the haze and will clear up after 15 minutes

Aquapel is an excellent product regarding longevity and wear from wipers, but not as good for beading as other products. I found the it forms droplets easily, but the droplets seems to stick a bit. RainX is the polar opposite, bad wear, does not last but excellent beading. So a base coat of Aquapel with a top coat of RainX is just perfect! When RainX start to wear, the Aquapel keeps the beading going. One of the few times using different products on top of each other makes a big difference.,

This is exactly like the Diamond Glass. It has a bad sliding angle, water doesn’t evacuate easily.

I struggled using the applicator so I use a foam block with micro-suede applicator (same as ceramic coating applications) and its a lot more manageable. I haven't noticed any degradation in durability. I get all the vehicles windshields prepared and do them all with one capsule. Thanks for the great work!

How do you open the glass vial? Or apply it to the suede?

Scott, I use the OG version of Carlack glass sealant which is a similar formula. Any high or stubborn spots I go back over with the wet applicator and it usually sorts it out no problem. Same experience as you though, wiping with ipa or water doesn’t budge it.

There is 1 place on my car, well actually 2, that I never put any sealant or wax on. I never ever do the rearview mirrors anymore. I notice that you don't really see better with a protectant on it. Well Scott you coat and wax your tractor, I do coat my bicycles as well. Helps to keep them clean and looking great.

I have been using Gyeon Q2 QuickView because it’s so easy to apply. I get 1 Year on the side windows and 6 months on the windshield.

Aquapel install video shows to just apply the product, wipe with paper towel and leave it, 15 minutes later Glass is clear.. don’t say to use water or anything to wipe

I'm really surprised the Rain X on the rear tractor window stayed where the wiper swept - I would have guessed that would be where it rubbed off first. Why not just use the easy Armor All ceramic glass spray every 6 months. Cheaper, easier, no? (that said, I bought 2 cans and both slow leaked to empty)

I feel like i had to do the same trick with rain x back in the day. It was leaving hazy stuff and came off real nice if i misted a towel with water and wiped it

Hey Scott - how many packs / applicators / ampules of Aquapel did it take to coat all the tractor glass? I'm guessing at least 3, probably more like 5-6 to get it really well-coated? Just wondering. Thanks for all the videos and hard work!

I have a 2007 Subaru Legacy Wagon that has a lot of glass and I've been able to use one applicator for the front and rear windshield, maybe 1-2 side windows. It takes two applicators to cover all windows of most cars and you do have to work rather quickly.

Might be better to use nano bond or foretoo If it's that hard to buff out. I use nano bond on everything. It does seem better then foretoo that I was so hooked on for years.

I got a streak like that on my windshield. It seemed like it was when some of the product got directly on the glass and ran across.

I've been able to remove that with IPA, but I think it's definitely an issue with the applicator...maybe how it breaks inside the applicator?

I think I see the cause of the streak on left side. You didn't apply Aquapel there. Watch it in 1/4 slomo.

I could have sworn aquapel goes on hazy. You wipe it down with a dry cloth and then it dries clear? I never knew anyone who had to wet it to get it to come off? You don't want it to come off.

I've been using aquapel for several years now. You don't let it haze, you wipe it off while it's still wet. I've never had an issue other than you have to be quick. I'll check the next time I apply it, but I'm pretty sure it even says to wipe it off wet or you'll have to buff it

Correct... basically half a windscreen at a time, wipe on wipe off. Problem we have is here in Texas it is usually very humid and even then it still doesn't want to come off without a fight.

@@ScottHD that's exactly what I do. I wreck 1 "unit" per half windscreen. And I'm in central Alabama, so I feel you on humidity. I usually do half and swim around to the other side and knock it out

you should most definitely use gloves and maybe even glasses and a mask. this stuff has very strong chemicals that you don't want absorbing through your skin. You don't want to get some sort of blood cancer from using this stuff with bare hands.
