Hey Sandro! What a surprise and funny situation! Rainy day here in Sweden, big windows from the floor to the ceiling coated by CarPro Reload (yes, don’t laugh please), my wife and I are enjoying windows water repellency and watching your video about almost the same! ))))) Let me add some little extra info maybe will be useful for you or for you Guys who are reading comments - I have applied CarPro Forte and CarPro Flyby 30 many times to my vehicles with different technics and the result was always approx. the same - working, but not as good as other cheaper water repellents on the market. And I got a possibility to talk to one of the CarPro Guys who has connection to chemical lab and he described me everything I need to know - as CarPro is manufactured in Korea and need to be imported to other countries (sorry, talking about the EU now) they need to have all the chemical certificates that they are “Earth Friendly”, etc and he told me exactly the thing inside chemical formalus which making the major effect of water repellency is not okay for certification, so they need to create their products without it. That’s why they are continuously working on the formula to achieve best result and that’s why the user guide looks like a mass. And as a result even this Guy advised me to use one of the EU product that don’t need to have import certificates and have “not Earth Friendly” chemicals inside. I have choose the one I was able to find out and it was rain repellent from Max Protect from UK (yes, before Brexit) and I have been surprised it is working like it should and much better of CarPro’s. Application experience was approx. the same as CarPro, three layers to windscreen, one to all other glasses. Experience and daily driving for 8 months - still working fine. Another thing to add Sandro - I have used rain repellent from Turtle Wax many years and I am love it still as I believe it’s working the best (as you have seen on the RainX on your video, I believe the product from Turtle Wax is from the same league). The one disappointment from the Turtle Wax product is need to be reapplied after one month. Nova is not available in Sweden, so need to continue with CarPro products which are the best I believe now and here) Sorry for such a long comment. Love your video and music! P.S: CarPro Reload is doing great on the house windows for 3 years now, washing them twice a year only 😊

@groundcontrol68763 жыл бұрын
I've always just used Rain-X and to this day, still do. It's cheap, it's easy to use and it performs amazingly (the water bead contact angles to me seem to be well in excess of 120 degrees). With that said, I always polish the glass with CarPro CeriGlass (and an old polishing pad, at the moment it's a lake country white foam pad) as I feel it's the only thing that truly gets the glass completely bare. You can tell it's completely bare when you wash it and rinse and the water is just completely flat. Even waxes bond to it and bead up when it's that clean. I know it's a bit overkill, as not every car needs it, specially not new ones, but since most cars in Puerto Rico have hard water-spots on them, that's just my preferred method. As for the Gyeon instructions, I think I understand what you mean and I agree. It seems to me they're just mystifying the process to make it appear more sophisticated than it is. I've never used it, but I bet their "primer polish" is just a regular cerium oxide based glass polish like CarPro's CeriGlass. Sandro, I've never felt the need to try anything else, as Rain-X has always pleased me with its results, but after watching this video, now I wanna give the Nextzett coating a try! It seemed to be the most hydrophobic out of the pack (even more so than the Nova coating) at least from the video, and at least before all that chemical torture. I understand it likely looks much different in person, but either way, the Nextzett is much cheaper than Nova, so I'll just try that one out! Thank you for always providing value in your videos Sandro, your effort to do testing and documenting/presenting it in such a nice and easy to digest manner and sharing your results with the world does not go by unnoticed and unappreciated. Oh and one more thing we agree on, Stoner makes an incredibly good glass cleaner! It's effective, it's cheap, and it also doubles as a panel-wipe. I use that instead of the much more expensive options like Gyeon Prep or CarPro Eraser when prepping the paint for a coating/sealant application.

Your ability to produce educational videos that on the surface (good pun) seem mundane in nature…enables someone to get the ‘why’ on what others end with ‘what’. I’d love to see another wax shootout when it makes sense for you to assemble.

From my experience the problem with any hydrophobic coating is the hazing that occurs temporarily after each wipe of the wiper blade. This is inevitable as the wiper creates a thin coating of water on the screen that then breaks up into tiny droplets due to the hydrophobic nature of the coating. The effect only lasts briefly but is annoying. It is true that at higher speeds the wipers might not be needed ( or can be put on intermittent) as the wind speed clears the rain droplets away by itself - but at lower speeds the wipers will still be needed. So you get this hazing effect.
@andrewh96293 жыл бұрын
Very good point. I have been unimpressed by hazing and chatter with q2view
@jacobshank93622 жыл бұрын
Idk if you have ever tried but you can apply coating to the wipers (best if new & cleaned as best as possible). Ive found with windshield coatings, best to just get newer wipers so that they have the strongest contact with windshield to prevent as much of that hazing as possible

100% agree with you Jonathan. So do you use nothing on your windshield now? I'm currently using nothing. I find glass coatings on windows also annoying in genuine rain because my eyes naturally focus on the beads at first glance instead of on the road ahead. I'd rather the water sheet.

Thanks for creating this informative video Sandro! I will need to re-watch it when I am ready to apply Carpro Flyby Forte on my car. Your last video on applying a ceramic coating came a week after I applied Gyeon Q2 View to my parents car. I followed the video by Gyeon Ambassador Yves Heylen and followed the 15 minute wait times between applications but I found the buffing off process very labor intensive. Despite preparing the glass washing, clay baring, cleaning and applying the polish product supplied manually I was not able to achieve the squeaky sound that is a good sign that the glass is prepared properly when applying the protective coating. Anyway my parents report the water is beading off the glass however I am not sure how long it will last. I am awaiting for the Max Shine 3" polisher to arrive through WaxIT. Thanks for listing all the items / products you use coupled with informative content is a real help that is allowing me to develop better habits in my passion for car detailing.

You are absolutely right about the Carpro instruction mess Sandro. It is so important to do it the right way to get the best result so you need correct instructions but they make a complete mess of it. Unbelievable. I've been using Rain X for years and absolutely love it. I just spent 6 hours using Griot's Garage Clay Bar with their Speed Shine Lubricant, then polishing the windows with Griot's Garage Fine Glass Polish (Pinnacle Glass Polish is just as good) and then applied Rain X. I drove in my first rain storm today and can't believe how good Rain X is. For the money it's an outstanding buy. Rain X will last an extremely long time on the side and back windows. On the front window you will have to apply on average once a month. I don't care what Glass Coating you use when you put on your wiper blades on the coating won't last that long. I recommend Rain X & just apply it once a month on your front windshield. Please understand that you have to prepare the glass properly first by using a clay bar and then machine polishing thereafter. The results are so impressive. When I drove today for the first time in the rain the water didn't even stick to the side and rear windows.

Agreed on Aquapel. Its greatest merit is that it lasts really long with only one coating. After 7 months, all windows show that it remains (which the company claims), and windshield still has some protection (the company says to expect 6 months there). So, it took me almost no time to add a layer to the windshield and call it a day. In fairness, it's crazy expensive per oz. But there is zero waste because of its dispenser.

I've used RainX in the past, but lately, I've had more time to wash my car (so usually weekly) and just wipe the entire car down with bowdens boss gloss, or afterglow. This will usually be more than adequate for the windscreen to getgood enough beading that you don't require the wipers if its raining or you're doing 50+km/h. And seeing as its applied every weekend (at most, two weeks) it's only got to last that long. Plus, it doesn't take much time at all, seeing as the entire car is being wiped down any ways. Lazy. I have tried q2view and very mixed results. Sure it is amazingly hydrophobic, but it is grippy and causes wiper chatter badly. When I emailed gyeon they told me to remove it from the wipers as the rubber can absorb too much. This is despite the instructions saying to and not mentioning anything about only using a tiny amount. This mostly fixed the issue on one car but not the other. I am resorting to wd40 silicone now to try and improve it. Oh and all this is in addition to causing hazing with the wipers, which are needed in light rain at lower speeds. If this is at night it caused a glare on your windscreen from passing traffic that is quite dangerous at times. In summary, I would use it again for sides, mirrors and rear despite its involved application, but never again for the windscreen. I may yet get the isopropyl out and remove it.

Nextzett looks better on hydrophobics than NV from the footage. In saying that, I use Gyeon WetCoat as a window drying aide after each wash and that's more than enough for me.

I used Rain x during 3 or 4 years. The proplem with this product is the lost of clarity and when the sun hit the winshield it is worst!!! Now i use Aquapel, is a bit pricy but a lot better. Cristal clear and the durability is insane!!!

Been using rain x for almost 40 years. For the price, you can’t beat rain x. The water seem to fly off faster than the other 5 products tested.

Not using a MF cloth to level the streaks is advised, but a little unrealistic, and lighter touch also helps.

Hey Sandro, thank you for the amazing info!! I’ve used multiple rain-x and soft99 branded glass sealant. Great behaviour and long lasting! Only issue i’ve had with em is streaking when the windshield wipers are (rarely) needed. Any ideas on that? Is it a mistakr on my side or is it the nature of glass sealants? Love you work and your content, keep up the fantastic videos!!

Good prep and application is very important, but in my experience it can also be the specific glass on the specific car as well as the specific wiper blade shapes and rubbers that on some cars are just prone to wiper chatter.

Wow! That's great to hear. I'm planning on buying NV Glass. Do you have any tricks to keep the product lasting 3 years?
@DonoteraseOG8 ай бұрын
@@fskofNo tricks. Just keeping the windscreen & wiper blades clean on a weekly basis. I'll scrub down the wiper blades monthly with a toothbrush (this has been key in extending the life of the coating, at least for me).

I kid you not. I applied a coat of the most basic RainX (clear liquid) on my car windshield. The car is not daily driven but was parked under the hot sun (I used to live at flathouse). Then there was a time I drove back to my hometown and it was pouring rain. The water beads flawlessly and I realized, the last time I put RainX on that windshield was about two months ago. RainxX consistently perform the way it is expected to do even if it is put to test alongside some of the most expensive brands. Soft99 Glaco is good too but I feel like you get more volume and more application times with RainX compared to Soft99 Glaco (that thing is like deodorant stick for God's sake). And they cost the same too. I bought that bottle of RainX in mid 2018 and have not finished it until I lost it about a month ago (early June 2022) 🤣

There is an ArmorAll glass repellent as well, I tried it once it's ok but a pain to wipe off dry without streeks. I just stick with RainX, I use a folded paper towel to apply and another folded paper towel with running water to gently wipe it off.

I'm a Brazilian enthusiast ... This video is very good, seeing the results helps a lot when choosing which one to use. I saw that you polished the glass before applying the products, what product did you use to polish !?

I believe I used Nv Finesse polish with a microfibre pad to polish the glass, but you can really use any paint polish or compound and pad 🙂

I've tried Forte, View, Rain X, and Stoner. Forte lasted me the longest even with wiper use. I've had past RainX windshield applications fail after one day and otherwise found it held more grime in general. Maybe I'm remembering wrong. I've been curious about Nextzett Glass. I'd probably use that on side and rear glass. Reminds me of Griot's Glass Sealant.
