Here's the biggest difference: in theory, a dog can help you hunt. Dogs are intelligent enough to be trained, and most of them are compatible with humans in a pack setting, due to the fact that we can help them hunt, as well as provide shelter and protection. Now, think of all the commonly consumed meat animals: pork, beef, venison, foul, bison. None of them are equal or above dogs on the natural food chain. That's why it seems wrong to eat dog. Can you? Sure. But out biological roots say that there are better choices that are lower on the food chain.

I've had "dog kebabs" when I was in Peru, it was pretty delicious, like lean beef. Some species of dogs, like Chihuahuas, were originally raised for their meat. Every culture has some kind of dietary restrictions, and Jim here is just reflecting the American restriction of not eating dog meat.

I loved listening to this rant, and love Jim, but he loses me when he says that pigs, cows, and chickens have to be eaten because "somebody's gotta be the food". From my experience, no they don't. My parents raised me as a vegetarian, and I've never eaten meat in my entire 33 year life. I'm healthy as fuck, and sometimes walk 15 miles to a destination rather than drive because I like staying active and listening to podcasts like this one. It's hard for me to tell people not to eat meat, because I've never had to give it up, so I can see why people would struggle with that...but don't make excuses. Just say "I can't give it up". That's what the reality is. You don't need it. I'm proof of that. No creature that has a consciousness should have to suffer for your enjoyment, even if it's an ant under a magnifying glass. You could've been that ant, you could've been those pigs, cows, chickens, and dogs. Animals eat each other because they don't know any better. We do know better, and we choose to make them suffer anyway, so what makes us superior exactly?

I have a honest question for you...what do you eat for major protein? Ive thought of giving up meat but how can i maintain muscle mass with out chicken or turkey in my diet? Zero issue with it. I always laugh when people in the west try to say it's wrong to eat cats and dogs in other countries. Animals are animals. So places think it's wrong to eat cows. So jim can get his right wing ignorant crap. The fact he can't wrap his head around it. Get over yourself champ.

There are many cultures that consider all kinds of things to be culinary delicacies. There are countries in Africa where spiders and scorpions are considered delicacies. Heck, in the southern United States there’s a breed of RAT that’s considered a delicacy (I think it’s called the nutria rat). Jews and Muslims don’t eat pork, and the meat that they do eat has to be specially prepared (kosher for the Jews and Halal for the Muslims). Devout Hindus don’t eat beef. There are examples like these in all cultures. I’m sure that there are some Orthodox Jews and Muslims who look at Americans eating pork products and non kosher/halal meats with disgust. The same can be said of Hindus seeing our love of steak and hamburgers. Lots of people own rabbits as pets and can’t conceive of people wanting to eat rabbits. However rabbits are also raised to be slaughtered for food, and you can buy rabbit meat at your local supermarket/butchers. Cornie, I love you man, but crapping all over an entire culture because you don’t like that they consider animals that you keep as pets to be a source of meat is actually very racist. It’s not just Koreans that eat dogs and cats. Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodians, Thai, practically all Asian countries have/do consider dogs and cats to be a delicacy. Just like giant rats are a delicacy in Mississippi. I will say that I don’t agree with torturing animals before slaughtering them for food. If you’re going to be killing them for food, then be quick about it and get it over with. Incidentally, I’ve heard that the process for making meat halal for Muslims is to torture the animal and make the death as slow and as painful as possible. I don’t know if that’s true, but if it is then that’s terrible.
