I shot out the Nolly plugin with a Plini plugin mix I had from before my free trial ended, and I thought the crunch amp on the Plini plugin actually had more of a nice body and character... So while the Nolly plugin might give you more tonal options, there was just something about the character of the Plini one that gave it more sauce, I dunno. Some of the sounds you can get on Nolly might be more typical. Also, the cleans on Plini seemed more shimmery and pretty, and had more potential for ambient stuff from what I remember, but I don't have it right now to compare. So I'm still not sure which to get. I think if I wanted more hairy, heavy, out of control sounds, I might go Nolly, but then again I haven't really been going there with my writing and listening lately.
@corey8toto5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Plini's clean actually sound more warm, rounded, Nolly's sound a bit glassy or smth like that. Especially I see diffrence on low freq. For me clean is really important, cause I'm not 'nothing but metal' guy, so I probably wait for discount to buy Plini. But practicly yeah, Nolly one head above.
@@mikei5104 If Neural is sure then I am since it's their confirmation. They were replying to comments in another video where folks were putting the best guesses forward and it was isolated to the above with Neural replying "your subscribers are insanely discerning. Kudos!". Also, it's known that the Nolly himself previously had mentioned that the Shiva was his favorite clean tone. You can google for more, but it's the closest true confirmation we have to date that I can find. Regards.

Having a delay pre-distortion is a cool idea. Gigan uses that sometimes in their older material and it works great. That said I have like 10 free delay plugins that can do this, so I'm sort of not that excited. I guess if you like having a one plug per guitar track it can be handy, though. Overall though I like the amp selection, you don't see a Victory emulation anywhere like ever. Would by this over Plinianytime. Sounds more like what I'd play through. Plini is ... Just a little too out there for me. And I almost never use cleans, so yeah. Screw that. lol. Great vid as always man. Ps: If / when you feel like doing plug reviews again, have a peak at Kuassa and their Amplifikation series. Klarent and Creme being the ones I dig. Marshall and Orange voicings respectively. Not 160 buckers either, and no effing ilock. Hate ilock like I hate being broke haha. Cheers

This is a remarkable plugin, as is the Plini version. However, as Plague Scythe Studios points out in the video, if you purchased the Plini a few weeks before Nolly came out, Neural won't allow you to cross-grade or upgrade to the Nolly. I wrote to them and Neural just sent me a boiler-plate response about their demo for Nolly, not even acknowledging that I already own Plini. At the prices they're asking, in my opinion, they should allow folks to upgrade.

I've heard a lot of good stuff about NDSP's products. I've been hesitant to purchase anything though because I'm concerned it's mostly just hype. I wish I just owned a Fractal product and was done with it. I've decided to place my trust in Nolly. His work really does speak for itself and I've just been looking for one solid well-rounded amp sim. I'd like to think that Nolly wouldn't put his name on something he truly didn't believe in. I still need to demo it myself, but I've been needing to upgrade to a non-paid amp sim, and I'm very confident I will buy this in the near future.
@thepessimist90435 жыл бұрын
That is actually a great question, would Nolly or basically any of top-quality VSTs (from Neural DSP, Mercuriall, STL Tones) live up to the standard of Fractal products?
@xanathell5 жыл бұрын
@@thepessimist9043 I doubt it. you can hardly compare any VST on the market to a $2,000+ hardware unit that is now basically industry standard for any professional guitarist in their arsenal.
@thepessimist90435 жыл бұрын
@@xanathell probably so, but there are some factors that make me doubt that. 1) Axe FX is an expensive peace of hardware by itself, and you would also need to include RnD, shipping and all that into the cost of a unit. 2) It offers a lot of added functionality since it's a standalone processor (for gigging) and it also includes like every tone imaginable. So when it comes to software only i believe that it is possible to achieve pretty much the same kind of quality in a VST using a modern PC. I'm saving money for the upcoming FM3 but since i've never had a possibility to directly compare a Fractal product to VST (i use Mercuriall Reaxis) i have doubts if there would be a lot of difference. Same thing for Nolly or other Neural DSP stuff.
@kimseniorb5 жыл бұрын
Its nowhere near the axe fx, its just clever marketing(paid youtubers) and promotion. I’ve done countless shootouts and its really not that good. There are other plugins on the market that can sound literally as good as the axe fx or kemper.

About the price, I would rather say that the other plugins are overpriced. Nameless is good, but 100 dollars is a biit much imo. 135 for Nolly is a good price since they dont really have any expenses, it is all digital. They should rather lower the prices on the other plugins, I am not spending 200 dollars for two basic plugins, simple as that. But I will probably be getting Nolly though.
@omarsharif9275 жыл бұрын
I agree 💯
@KeepTheGates4 жыл бұрын
I think they're priced fairly. They're top shelf, STL and Mercuriall are the only ones that can hold a candle to them, and even then they don't feel as responsive and alive. Not to me, at least. You've got companies like Toneforge charging $179 for TF Misha Mansoor Advanced, and that's a complete ripoff. With the loyal customer discount you can get Nameless, NTS or Omega for like $94. I guess compared to the 4 amps you get with Nolly it could seem expensive, but I like to just think that the Archetype plugins are cheap.

Sounds great dude! Hey, on another note, can I ask you a question about the 33 pedal? I've been considering getting a 33, but I usually play alot in E Standard, E flat, Drop D, and Drop D flat. I understand that the 33 is supposed to be great for lower tunings but I figured it would be great as a clean boost for more standard tunings as well, but I've been reading some posts that say in standard higher tunings theres some wierd stuff happening(in this case) buddy said on the A string he would get some not so pleasing sounds. I don't like forums for the most part and like to talk to people I know or trust because opinions are like A$$*%^*$ so I wanted to ask you how you feel this pedal performs in higher tunings or if you've ever noticed anything wierd? I personally think it should be fine and whatever results buddy was getting was unique to something in his setup but you never know. He wasn't exactly specific on what the result was, but just that it was like a harshness or clipping, but just on the A lol, so I dunno. Thanks dude, you rock! Also, just an idea, maybe a 33 comparison between different tunings??

their best offering is still Nameless. this one's amps were really a big letdown - just your usual flubby plugin sounds. you are clearly biased in my opinion. this plugin doesnt sound anything exceptional, just shoot it out against the axe fx 5153 blue 50w, it sounds miles better with all the knobs at 12 than anything you can tweak on the peavey amp in nolly. always try and shootout things using the same DI, otherwise every new plugin is going to sound grounbreaking and "best" to you (their marketing game is pretty strong but I'm surprised you're falling for it)

Plague Scythe Studios: Yeah, they came off as being unaware of their own bias, which they were projecting onto you, lol. Anyone watching further would be aware that you were rating this one so highly regarding it's value and amount of tonal options (and I concur). Personally, while the Nameless plugin does sound brutal, it seems to lack body and as if it really could use another amp paired with it in a mix to sound its best. Really, IMO much of high gain (or even crunch) amp modeling sounds either harsh or a bit blunted due to trying to get digital clipping controlled enough to closely emulate tube gain, and I think after spending time going back and forth between my actual amps and amp sims that there is still away to go, though IMO the very clean tones seem to already have arrived. I'd personally go more for something with the more realistic sounding cleans and useful effects and serviceable gain sounds, such as with the Plini or Nolly plugins, though obviously everyone's mileage will vary. Nothing wrong with highly preferring a particular tone over a larger set of options, either.
