Noted. This album is fantastic for the feels. Musically, it’s probably going to be a bit cookie cutter for you I’m guessing. Their album directly before this “AOGHAO” is more varied and raw. May be worth checking IF you wanted more of that style from these guys.

I think to fully appreciate this album you have to first understand the backstory behind it and be familiar with the previous albums. It’s essentially the bands expression of grief after Toms passing, there is a lot of call backs to ‘All our Gods’ which is essentially Toms musical goodbye.

Definitely becoming one of my favourite "reactors" mainly due to the honest opinions, although, Architects are one of those bands for me that any bad word against them is like a knife in the heart 😂. I have to ask though, Drew, seeing a lot of your reactions, like where have you been? Living under a rock? You seem to have been snapped away by Thanos for 2 decades and missed loads of music (in this Genre). If that's the case some highlight albums have to be; Hollow Crown by Architects, Horizons by Parkway Drive, Matriarch by Veil of Maya, When the End Began by Silent Planet and VIA by Volumes just name a very tiny few.

Great reaction. The lyrics on this album are really special imo. Lots of emotion and grief can be heard in Sam’s singing after the loss of Tom. I really enjoy the use of “Hope is a prison” on the track Damnation as this is a throwback and tie into Gone With the Wind from AOGHAU. Lots of talk about his process of dealing with cancer. Keep up the great videos. Hope you do a reaction to AOGHAU.

I felt similar when the album came out but it grew on me over time, still I felt like it was a bit lackluster in comparison to their previous album "All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us" which to this day is my all time favorite. To be fair it was their first attempt at writing music after their songwriter and guitarist passed away... RIP Tom Searle... and keeping that in my mind I thought it was a great album. Hope you give Tom Searles Legacy a.k.a. "All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us" & "Lost Forever // Lost Together" a listen because damn was he a phenomenal songwriter in any aspect of his work... lyrics as well as instrumentals

It's funny, I'm watching this right now, you're in the Holy Hell song reaction and you instantly thought it's the best of the songs till that time stamp. What's funny is that song and Doomsday were the last ones and the only ones on the album that were written by Tom before he died. I don't comment on yt at all, but I watch your journey as you find out about all these metalcore/djent/thall albums and it's really fun. Lost forever//Lost together and All Our Gods have abandoned us are the albums that shaped modern metalcore. The Holy Hell album seems like something you've heard before. If you listen to the other two that I mentioned, it will probably seem like that too(or may not). My point being that Architects leaned themselves into the atmospheric metalcore spectrum before all these bands. I personally haven't heard of a metalcore band after Lost Forever//Lost together that didn't incorporate these "technical tapping open note riffs" or the atmospheric backgrounds. Northlane(they named their band of the Architects song North Lane, that's how they started), Polaris, Currents, Erra, Wage War etc. Not to say there is not evolution, in these bands, everyone progresses, but what I'm stating is that the more you dig into their previous albums, the more you'll find a samey sound. Tom was an incredibly unique guitar player for me, I would blast his two last albums and then one day I hear the news. I mention this to justify the weight of the lyrics. If you listen to all our gods, you'll face a whole bunch of dark themes and that's because they come from a man that deals with cancer. Shit I almost wrote an essay, I just got emotional because you reminded me the first time I listened to Architects about 10 years ago in high school. Rock on! Edit: That's why Doomsday feels repetitive haha, Tom wrote the riff and he died before turning it into a song.

Loved to see your perspective on this one. It's interesting to see the comparisons with Erra because Architects (alongside BMTH, which is fitting since Sam and Ollie are BFFs) influenced a lot of the 2010's metalcore scene. But that aside, I think this album is very contextual because it came out after the passing of their guitarist Tom Searle. So this had a huge impact on their sound, approaching it in a more emotional way than previous records (not that they haven't done that before, but it's way more noticeable here), and it is also a culmination of the two past albums before moving on to a new sound. I would recommend checking out "Lost Forever//Lost Together" and "All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us", which I think are their best albums to date.

This is a great album though not their best which says a lot. It just has no bad songs in it. For me 8.5/10. This was their first album after their main guitarist and song writer Tom Searle sadly passed away. Their music haven't been as techincal or complex since. That being said you should definately check out "Lost Forever//Lost Together" which is one of/if not the best metalcore album ever. "All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us" is just as good.

As you said, but to expand, Architects basically spawned this whole djent-core wave (tapping/technical melodic riffs with chugs in-between) between Daybreaker (2012) and Lost Forever Lost Together (2014), mostly with the latter. They're pretty much the forefathers, or rather Tom is the forefather, of that riffing style which is now used by Erra, Invent Animate, Spiritbox in the more complex tracks and A LOT of other modern metalcore bands. In fact, this sub-style of metalcore is called Architects-core by some people and it has spread itself so much that there definitely are some boring examples of it being used with a distinct lack of creativity. Main song that comes to mind for me is Low by Wage War which sounds very similar to Doomsday from this album (the main riff) Edit: yes, ambientalism is a huge topic for them. One of their best songs imo is Colony Collapse which is about the Fukushima disaster (i mean i'm pro-nuclear but it's a great song lol). Also Deathwish is clearly about global warming.

@sirdo946
@sirdo946 Жыл бұрын
@@xeqtioner0660 i wouldn't call Impulse modern metalcore or Architects-core though. It was more in the vein of "classic" djent with the distinct (constant) chugs, also used by bands like After The Burial, Northlane pre-Singularity, The Contortionist pre-Language, Structures and most likely some others which i can't think of rn. It was almost more influenced by math rock than djent. Architects kind of streamlined and simplified certain elements creating a more accessible but creative (and still somewhat technical) sound that was then copied by, like, half the scene

I agree. Architects are the gateway/foundation and the newer bands have really honed the sound and took it to new places. I used to be a massive architects fan but don’t listen as much anymore - not because of their direction since Holy Hell, but because the newer bands are going to new heights with their instrumentation. It's also why I don't agree with the people who think architects fell off and "should make albums exactly like the old ones", it was the right career choice to go more mainstream because they'd not be able to make metalcore albums as good as the new kids on the block. They've had their golden era in which they made groundbreaking albums that helped paved the way!

This is probably just my perspective so take it with a grain of salt. While I enjoy the fuck out Sam's voice and all the catchy riffs, that's not Architects main draw for me. I was just getting sober when i first heard Doomsday and the lyrics and delivery absolutely blew me away so i dug in deeper and this album in particular, for me, lyrically is a masterpiece. The overarching themes of grief, loss, soul searching, "one foot in front of the other" mentality just touch me in my soul. Several of their lyrics have brought me to tears multiple times "the embers still glow when I'm sober, the gold in the flames burn brighter now" that's some real shit and a perspective i would have just glossed over prior to sobriety. I'm probably ascribing meaning to the songs that just narratively fit for me but i guess that's the beauty of music lol not that it matters but Hereafter, Holy Hell, Death is not Defeat, Doomsday, Mortal After All, and Wasted Hymn for me are top tier Architects. I enjoyed the review 🤙

Their new sounds is more Industrial and less technical, it's a different approach for a bigger audience. Holy hell and All gods have abandonned us are peak architects IMO slappy blegh metalcore

I haven’t listened to any albums before this one, they’ve just gotten away from me for some reason, and it isn’t musically technical or anything but since it’s following the death of Tom searle you can literally feel the raw emotion in every track and that’s what makes this album on of my favorite metal core releases in recent years

Architects is one of those bands with a loud fan base. I can only take so much of Sam's vocals before I just have to skip

Sometimes a little more lyrical analysis is needed, not only musical, as in Modern Misery. Even more so in bands like Architects. For example in "Royal Beggars" along with his video. Only opinion. I'm sorry for my English. Take a look at All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us

Lol I honestly never understood the hype about the track “Doomsday”. Its honestly super mid. Like even in 2018 i could never understand the hype about this song, its Architects #1 listened to song idk how. Im so perplexed. Can someone explain what is so good about it?

It was my first introduction to metalcore.I think it is very catchy and easy to listen to for non-metal listeners too.

@@benedekistvan2655 Yeah i guess maybe it sounds good to a metalcore newbie. I just never found the chorus or instrumental that catchy.

Modern architects definitely sounds way more plain from the perspective of someone who has listened to them for a long time which is why it doesnt resonate with us as much. The beauty and technicality that we grew to love sort of fell off after this album. Modern architects embraced the more traditional song structure and sort of industrial metal vibe which is not something any of us saw coming aside from the catchy riffs.

Metalcore in general just doesn't have the staying power for me anymore. I do like this album but I haven't listened to it in years.

I think this is thier best album, I cant enjoy the older stuff much. I struggle to enjoy architects in general though, i like the instrumentals but the vocals ruin it for me. Unpopular opinion i know...I just think they are extremely overrated.
