I'm all for the "Buy Once, Cry Once" philosophy to avoid obtaining a series of subpar products that just need to be quickly replaced, but $280 for a pair of swim trunks is insanity.

Great take, Brock! Since I don’t swim much, I’ve found that running shorts can pull double-duty as swim trunks (they’re basically the same thing as swim trucks - shorts with a liner).

I wear Vissla, O'Neill and Quiksilver. A lot have the velcro with lace up, a large pocket for my phone and found some with my favorite colors. O'Neill got a thing that connects to the O'Neill shirt so you can't get naked if a wave washes over you or something and you happen to lose your shorts. Got them for 30 to 50 at REI.

You may look into Spier & Mackay's latest offering. They came out with a pair that pretty closely emulates the look of Orlebar Brown with front buttons and side tabs but for about a fifth of the price. There is a summer clearance sale going on right now though so I'm not sure how much longer they'll be around.

I’m a big fan of OB, but generally just stick to the sales (otherwise out of my budget). I’ve had a pair since 2018 and they are still in great condition

The incredibly lug-to-lug on most NOMOS watches has kept me away from them, but I've never been able to try one on. Thoughts on how they wear on a smaller wrist?
@BrockMcGoff Жыл бұрын
The Minimatik has a shorter (normal) lug to lug. But the long lugs are okay for my smaller wrists, esp on the 35-37mm dials.
@stephenmasciocchi1411 Жыл бұрын
@@BrockMcGoff Good to know! My wrist is about 16.5cm and I usually wear watches with a L2L of 46mm or less.

The Uniqlo last a long time as well. Got a Patagonia on sale. Deeper pockets, thinner fabric than Uniqlo. I wonder if high end fashion brands that charge 280 USD for a pair of swim trunk do they actually pay decently the factory workers who make the products.

I bought a pair of MMA shorts that I used as swim trunks from Walmart for like $12 and had them for a decade. I got rid of them because I wanted a pair with pockets, not because they were worn out. Paying anything over $35 for swim trunks seems excessive and showboaty.

I think the takeaway of this video can be generalized to most clothing: nothing is really worth it at retail price. Or, maybe to be more precise, no ready-to-wear is worth it at retail price. Most high-end ready-to-wear is a good buy at a discounted price, but never at retail. When even high-end brands like Vilbrequin or Orlebar Brown discount their products on their own websites, there's little point in ever paying retail for them.

Yah, those $280 swim trunks are definitely not worth the dollars, as my $385 Versace board trunks, which are black with a low keyed gold design trim around the waist, are no better, from a wear and quality standpoint, than my Tommy Bahamas, which while they sell for $80.00 in the big stores, I get them for $40-50 at Gabe's or TJ Maxx, or Peter Millar, which retail for $100-110, though can be had for $50-55 at the same discount stores. I'd say that one can obtain a quality attractive pair of swim trunks for $40-60, depending on where they shop. No sane well adjusted male needs a $280-385+ pair of swim trunks, lol. I was on vacation, had too many of those fruity drinks🍹 and p!ssed away $385🤪 Though they are good lookin😂 As a collector of luxury time pieces, with a few Nomos in the collection, and retired Certified Master Maison(CSOMH), I love your Nomos!! Though I happen to be wearing their Polar opposite today in a PAM, they epitomize understated elegance, whether it be a T to a Tux, at a very fair price point!! Continued Success🍻 RP

I think quality *has* to cost a lot if everyone involved in the process is going to be treated fairly. It doesn't have to be luxury/designer tier, but it can't be mass market affordable either.

Lets get real. You are paying for the status of being able to buy these, not because they blow anything out of the water. I have great $30-50 swim shorts that have lasted 6-7 years to date and still have years left in them. The price point means you can get a couple of colours and lengths if that is your thing. Nearly $300 for swim trunks, yeah, thats for instagram, or to be seen in other peoples instagrams.
