Hybridizing is what we should be doing to recover useful energy from braking. Nothing beyond that- so we can reduce so much further with the supply we have to make batteries with.

Truth, Edison trucks has a prototype doing just that with a diesel generator using hybrid tech. They even convert existing trucks to the platform.

As always with these comparisons you omit the emissions of producing the diesel. To find oil, pump it up, refine it and deliver it to the truck plus transporting it in between all of these stages, during a lifetime of the truck. That’s causes enormous emissions so this is where big savings are

No mention of recycling 95%+ of all those battery materials to make a new battery when the old one reaches end of life. Also electricity generation is way way behind UK and EU in its low carbon mix so again video inaccurate. None of the sources cited either.

Even on coal electricity, EVs have lower lifetime emissions. However, on coal it takes much time to recoup battery production emissions. On virtually any other electricity source EVs are much better than ICE.

Well, you can't beat the efficiency of fully electric powertrain. All alternatives (mainly hydrogen since CO2 capturing will not be a thing on moving objects) have at least double the energy need due to its bad efficiency (compaired to the battery). Next gen electric trucks will be able to work an entire day on about 2 recharges of 30 min (plis a slow charge over night which is possible right now and only needs 50 to 100 kW). One of those rests is mandatory, so there is a 30 min setback compaired to diesel. Of couse, this means megawatt charging power which will be a huge investment but eventually will develop like the >300 kW CCS chargers we have right now. For hydrogen the investment would be quite the same or even more expensive while carrying double running costs due to half efficiency.

Hydrogen? With all due respect, who's Kool-aid have you been drinking? At least electric infrastructure already exists and only needs upgrading. Do you have any idea how complex and energy intensive making hydrogen is? How difficult is it to store? You do realize that the hydrogen storage tanks also require complex manufacturing and exotic materials, don't you? Hydrogen is worse in every way, it still requires massive amounts of electricity to produce while also depending on a more centralized infrastructure to make and distribute the hydrogen.

@@rbgerald2469 You’re just negligence Hydrogen can use all existing infrastructure also alternative fuels like Hydrogen and Biofuel use the combustion engine. The manufacturing of batteries is filthy and they degrade rapidly Electric vehicles are not clean until 41,000-91,000 miles which their batteries won’t last too and soon as you replace the batteries you start over again. Also that isn’t the infrastructure for electric vehicles doesn’t exist because current infrastructure can’t cope with electric vehicles and there no clean way to make that much electricity and the price of electricity will skyrocket which is what is starting to happen now which will not only put your fuel bill up it will also put up your house bill. Then what people seem to forget is that CO2 is needed in Industry and food/drink sector so using Grey Hydrogen is not a bad thing it’s actually the most efficient way to make Hydrogen and it’s not actually that dirty and the CO2 that is produced in the process can be used in Industry and the food/drink sector. The storage of hydrogen is not as hard as people make it out to be.

@@jammiedodger7040 ..Bruh as for biofuel, you have to sacrifice food for fuel, thereby increasing food prices (especially ones that use Corn) As for Hydrogen, there are still disadvantages. Storage and Distribution: Hydrogen has low energy density by volume, which means it needs to be compressed or liquefied for efficient storage and transportation. This requires specialized infrastructure and can be costly. Production: Most hydrogen production methods, such as steam methane reforming or electrolysis, currently rely on fossil fuels or electricity generated from fossil fuels. This undermines the environmental benefits of hydrogen as a clean fuel unless produced from renewable sources. Cost: Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles and infrastructure are currently more expensive than conventional vehicles and refueling stations. The high cost of fuel cells and limited availability of hydrogen refueling infrastructure are significant barriers to widespread adoption. Safety Concerns: Hydrogen is highly flammable and can form explosive mixtures with air over a wide range of concentrations. Ensuring safe handling, storage, and transportation of hydrogen is crucial to prevent accidents.Efficiency: Hydrogen production, distribution, and conversion processes have energy losses at each stage, reducing overall efficiency compared to direct use of electricity in battery-electric vehicles. Infrastructure Development: Building the necessary hydrogen refueling infrastructure would require significant investment and time. This includes production facilities, storage tanks, pipelines, and refueling stations, which may not be feasible in all regions. Limited Renewable Sources: Producing hydrogen from renewable sources like solar or wind energy is more sustainable but currently represents a small fraction of total hydrogen production. Scaling up renewable hydrogen production would require substantial investments in renewable energy infrastructure. Carbon Emissions: Hydrogen production from fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions unless coupled with carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology. This undermines the environmental benefits of using hydrogen as a clean fuel.

@@jammiedodger7040 ...The storage requirements for Hydrogen are way more different than say; conventional fuel. They needed to be cooled. The only thing needed for Electrical infrastructure is an upgrade, and the high prices are caused by Utility Companies who price gouge the heck out of their customers for Maximum Profit. Hydrogen Fuel Cell vehicles are nothing more than glorified EVs, as they use Hydrogen to generate electricity. A battery can be recycled. And prices for EVs are going down, especially as a second hand market already exists
