@@kylandaminick13 Cutouts are usually way cheaper, and louder, then a full exhaust system. Plus you can leave them partly open if you want something between open and stock but this might not be legal depending if you live in an emission testing county. You can also quiet down and exhaust system quite a lot by using multiple in-line. Common on 4 and 6 cyl setups with single exits, but could also be done with duals. In the midpipe section, use a long straight flow 3 chamber Magnaflow, still straight through but has 3 chambers to tone down noise. Then, another straight flow at the rear. Quieter and arguably better sounding than a Flowmaster and flows WAY better since you're still straight flow from at least the cat back of if you are cat less it's straight flow all through. Just some extra weight and cost.

The 2v Mustang I have has some kind of flowmaster's on it off road x pipe and turndowns at the axle .. deep sound that gets a little raspy up top. When it had the stock h pipe with gutted cats same fm mufflers and tailpipes it was raunchy and raspy . When I put the turndown with factory h same fm mufflers only change was removed tailpipes and put turndown's at axle it deepened and quieted the exhaust . Same with the off road x the exhaust got quieter lol .

Besides better mufflers, I would put the Catalytic converters AFTER the X pipe. That would give a more steady flow through the converters which would improve their effectiveness, and reduce the effective restrictions of the converters. That makes the capacity of BOTH converters available to EACH header collector.

@@bbbnnuuuhgg7016 I do believe that it's because of heat. It might be possible to header wrap the pipes between the collectors and the cats, to keep the exhaust temperature as close as possible to collector temperature before it enters the cats. If the car has oxygen sensors, they need to be in the collectors, for the quickest response time.

Which in some situations can be a good thing and others be a bad thing. If so do you know what the negative where of going to such a setup?

@Scootermagoo
@Scootermagoo 5 жыл бұрын
As someone who ran 40 series on a 400ish hp motor tailpipes is probably the only way to get rid of the moan. With my experience generally a header a x pipe and duals out over the rear end makes enough power to not make a difference in corked or uncorked, et/mph wise i tried it both ways and it made 0 difference. I'd rather have it quiet. I'd stick to the x and a decent muff and add tailpipes and not worry about 12hp. and 3inch is a waste of time and money. Jeremy as someone with experience in small block fords, don't waste your time with the 3inch, the motor is to small, you need 400-450ish hp to make 3inch worth the effort. It'll just drone more and piss the neighbors off more and it might slow you down from the extra weight. I know the children in the shop joke about the dad bod nonsense but this is a heavy car and adding the wrong sized exhaust isn't going to help. Trust me I spent a couple grand on headers and exhaust systems. on a 8000rpm 302 on the street, your wasting time and money for 12 hp and 3inch exhaust. If you want to make more of a difference buy better headers and play with collectors a tri-y collector the x pipe 2 1/2inch pipe and tailpipes, it'll be much more enjoyable driving the car and be just as fast except for the 100ish lb's in weight.

I have yet to see a cat vs no cat dyno or video. Maybe you can provide some insight on powerloss of a cat or do a video on it!

Answer: No. Not without modifying the valves and passages coming out of the cylinder head.

Wait wait wait, what are the mods already done with that 258whp baseline? 258 at the wheels for a 4.6 2v is pretty stout.

I had close to the same setup(no cats) with 2.5" magnaflows,switched to 3" Flowmaster 40's and lost ET. Went to 3" magnaflows and never looked back. I did like the low tone of the the Flo's but not how much power they robbed,

I think all this video reinforced for me is that it's not worth the noise and illegality of running straight exhaust on the street. Quality brand, vehicle specific, free flow exhaust systems with headers, high flow cats and mufflers are totally worth it, make big gains over stock, and keep you legal. If you ever actually do race, install cutouts to use at the track.

Flowmaster are dinosaurs, when tuning was in infancy. Diverted airflow use to work, now it’s just a diversion. Before then it was straight pipes. I’ve tried recently, too loud with full length. Would be a nice video to see gains if any on this old school upgrade.

What about a switch to dis-energize the alternator momentarily?
@NBSV1
@NBSV1 5 жыл бұрын
tbirdracefan I’ve actually done that on a car before when we had to build a harness. It’s only a couple of HP at most. As you spin the alternator faster it works less hard to charge so takes less power. And the fan on the alternator tends to stall at high rpm so even though it takes power it isn’t much.

My preview video is up. I'll get a better one once I'm somewhere I can get out and rev it up some. It's really quiet cruising. No drone. Sounds mean enough when I get up on it. Not overly loud. Just a dd so I'm not sure how it affects power. I'm sure it.picked up some over stock though.

It’s a little more complicated than it seems. Hptuners supports later year vehicles and not this year (contract). I do have the hardware now for another software and I will tune it. I’m not looking for more work as we have been overloaded for a few years now.
