Never had an issue other than a bad wheel bearing on my 2014 ram 1500. I do light 4 wheeling and it's a daily. No problems. At the end of the day it doesn't matter what you have just how you treat it. Had a friend who didn't change the oil in his ram for 20k miles and he ended up sending a piston to the moon and said he'd never own a ram again because it broke. He ended up doing the same to a Chevy and his wife's f150. Just do regular maintenance for god sake don't blame the manufacturer for your mistakes

And the 2014 model is rated as one of the least reliable years for the Ram and if its not doing bad then yes, Ram trucks are sort of reliable.
@TheJoncic
@TheJoncic 5 жыл бұрын
One reason the Tundra is so reliable is because of the infrequent redesigns. The current Tundra volume engine and transmission have not changed since 2007. That gives them plenty of time to work out bugs whereas other brands have to constantly fix newer models as they roll out.

I've had alot of Dodge vehicles over the last 10 years and never had any issues. I did decide to buy a High Country Silverado in 2017 and the transmission went out twice in the first 20k miles. I dumped it and now have a 2019 Ram. I drive F-150's for work and Randomly have issues with them as well. I'll stick with Ram for my Personal vehicles.

I've heard reports exactly like yours dozens of times, and the other way around with the F150 being the best or the Silverado as well. I think that the main problem or at least a big one with big car manufacturers these days is quality control, which means that the vast majority of customers gets a great vehicle and just a few get garbage and bitch about how bad the brand would be etc. Anyway, great to hear that the truck runs great
@thomasbradberry5228

What i've found is just about every truck manufacturer has bad trucks they send out. Most people have no problems for a long while and the people who take good care of their stuff don't have problems for a lot longer. It's usually just about maintenance. edit: Also what A LOT of people don't tell you when they talk about how trash a certain truck is, is how they drive it. Whether it's gunning it off every red light and treating it like some race car around every corner, driving has a lot to do with how good a truck is. But again, even a brand like toyota can have problems, so just hope you don't get a bad apple when you get any of the 4 brands (Chevy/GM are basically the same thing).
@christopherdavisson617
@christopherdavisson617 4 жыл бұрын
That's completely true. I've always had good luck with Silverados. Better than I have with F-150s. But both brands have never done me wrong. I've heard horror stories from owners of all brands tho. It really depends on all those above mentioned factors as well as the fact that when you factor in how many of these trucks are sold every year? Well they are bound to send out a few lemons. My biggest issue with all the American brands and the lack of customer service when something does go wrong under warranty. To me that's a much bigger issue than the small number of duds that you can get from any brand. Trucks in general are pretty much really over built and pretty reliable.

driving a truck like an asshole from every red light aint gonna hurt it... AS LONG AS the regular maintenence is done. and yes, i mean 200 dollar transmission and all 3 diff fluid changes every 30k miles, synth oil changes every 5k maximum or 3k maximum if its an ecoboost, air filter, etc. i cannot explain to people enough just how much damage they will cause their vehicles long term by ignoring regular maintenence. ESPECIALLY the way most americans drive.
@christopherdavisson617
@christopherdavisson617 4 жыл бұрын
@@dr._breens_beard I'd agree with that completely. Most people don't do ANY regular maintenance at the proper times. Trucks are like anything else. If you keep up on them you will get a long lasting truck most of the time.

@@christopherdavisson617 personally i blame the manufacturers for not properly explaining the difference between regular and heavy duty use in the manual so the average dummy thinks "oh, im not towing, im just driving around town." Which absolutely is hard on a car/truck. Its also what most of em use their vehicles for. The other trend is "lifetime fluids." I could go on a rant about that atomic bullshit but im sure id be preaching to the choir lol
@christopherdavisson617
@christopherdavisson617 4 жыл бұрын
@@dr._breens_beard Lifetime fluids is the biggest joke of all time. I've owned plenty of Silverados. I dont' change the transmission fluid every 30k but I DO change it every 50k at max. Yeh people wonder why their transmissions go out after 150k and that's why. There is NO such thing as a lifetime fluid man. The manufacturers should be sued for that stuff. Same way with axle fluid. After your first 30k you're supposed to change that too. Might stop your rear end from going out after 150k too. But they (the manufacturers) tell you you don't have to so you buy a new truck every five years. THing is? Yeh that's fine. But I want the next person who gets my old truck to get a good amount of life out it even if I do want to buy a new one every 5yrs. Which I usually drive them for 8 to 10yrs. But yeh simple maintenance has kept all the Sivlerados I've ever owned on the road for well past 200k. I have a 2015 now and it's almost at 100k. Nothing major at all is wrong with it. And it still drives almost like a new truck man.

I also have 04 doge ram 1500. 5.7 liter with 188k miles. Original engine and tranny and still working great!! Sure there are parts that need to be fixed or replaced (radiator, alternator, power steering pump, rusted brake line...but aftermarket parts for this truck are really cheap and plenty of room to do work on this truck). just about every one I see (including mine) have the rust above the rear wheel wells, but easy fix is to cut out the rot, paint and cover with fender flares. I plan to keep driving till until either engine or tranny go out.

@@aeroloco4352 something to note about Rams I've noticed. Things like starters, pumps, seals, gaskets, and really minor components were where they cheaped out on. They have some strange structural issues too electrical problems and just weak automatic transmissions that might be fixed since they switched to Toyota transmissions. Honestly for a work truck unless it's a Cummins or heavy duty truck, Rams are probably not worthwhile in the 1500 and maybe 2500, but they're heavy duty series has been bulletproof from what I've heard.

Sapped to synthetic oil on my first oil change, and Ive been following the factory maintenance since new. My truck has been in for the recalls, tailgate, cruise reprogram and rear axle bearing checked. I've had no issues with the truck. Every brand has issues, but if you look after them they'll last. When I bought it I drove the Ford, Chev, Nissan and Toyota. I'd buy the Ram again, quite happy with the truck.

I hear a lot about the cracked dashboards but my '05 1500 with 200k miles and plenty of time baking in the sun still has what appears to be the original dashboard. Matter of fact everything on the truck is original, transmission, engine, things like power steering etc. are all original. Seems like the 2005 is a good model year for the 1500. It definitely isn't always about "the most reliable brand" do your research on the model of vehicle you want and see what the best year, engine, transmission is and I promise you it will be a good vehicle.

Hey.... your video came up in my recommendation feed. I'm now on my 3rd Ram truck and here's why. I was never really a truck fan until I saw the 2002 Ram. So I worked two jobs to save up for a down payment on a 2003. Got my Black 2003 5.9 V8 Laramie. It came with everything I could get in a truck. Freaking loved the hell out of that truck....I was married to that truck!!!! I put 196,000 miles in that thing. Two years after paying it off some asshole stole it!!! Next I got a killer 2013 RAM RT 5 speed auto with 410 gears all bells and whistles. Had to take it to get a few updates but no other problems until some bitch pulled out in front of me on my way to work and so another one lost. Now I have a 2015 RAM Blacked Out edition. Not as fancy as my other two trucks but so far so good. It's had 2 updates and a tailgate recall and no other problems... keeping my fingers crossed!! If something happens to this one....I'm getting a Ford Taurus!!

For the most part, you can get the redesign that has the same engine and trans as the classic, just with the new body style. Mine has the exact same 5.7L Hemi as the classic. I opted not to get the brand new etorque engine or any of those parking sensors, active cruise, or that ridiculously huge 12 inch screen. Kept it simple. Almost all of the complaints, repairs and recalls for this redesign had to do with vehicles built with that 12 inch screen and new etorque system. Like you said..... avoid year one. But if you can get in on year one with previous year mechanical/tech.... win/win.

My 2005 Dodge Ram Heavy Duty (2500) had the crank and cam sensors replaced, in addition to the fuel pump. Had over 200,000 miles on it when I let it go. My 2015 Ram Big Horn 1500 has had the fuel pressure sensor replaced, and now I've got to replace the fuel level sensor, with less than 55,000 miles. I'm going to replace the fuel pump, while I have it taken apart... I'm not impressed with the reliability.

My concern with all of the new high end trucks is the electronics. What will it cost to debug problems or in Ram's case what is the replacement cost of that center display? I think resale is going to suffer big time when the gizmos start to fail.

They are the longest lasting most reliable trucks on the road. I’ve owned a hot shot company for over 20 years. I started with fords they broke constantly and well my father said try gm well out of six brand new trucks if I was lucky one could run for six months, I switched to ram and not one truck has broke since. I’m on my third fleet of six now better fuel economy, the ride is so much more comfortable and no break down ever when all my rams have over 400,000 miles towing a 43ft fifth wheel. They run 24 hours a day nationwide

Interesting to read comments. So much bluster. I am 67 yrs old and have owned 2 GMC, 2 Ford, 1Toyota T100, 2 Dodge Power Wagons (62,68) I did most of my own mechanical work as in clutches, trannies etc. I currently own a 2016 Ram 1500 Laramie with 83k with zero issues. Several recalls all of which were handled quickly and well by my attentive dealer. Both my GMC were retired due to rot... frames so bad springs popped through the bed. My second Ford got 12 mpg downhill with a tailwind and an empty bed. Further it leaked so much oil in so many places I could keep the dust down on dirt roads! The T 100 was underpowered and cheaply put together. Tundras are overpriced and drive behind any large dealership and you will see a stack of replacement FRAMES! Why I bought a 2016 Ram was Every new gen, no matter who makes it has issues because all of them let John Q Public do final testing. Never buy the 1st year of any new generation. My dealer was a multi brand dealership and gave me $2500.00 for my 01 GMC which wouldn't pass inspection. Will be buying the new Ram after it is debugged in 2020. Excellent mileage for truck (24.3 mpg @ 70 mpg on a trip from Maine to NY) Finally since this review didn't say and I'm a subscriber to Consumer Reports Ram is #2 overall with a score of 64 after the F150 with a 67. Chevy/GMC is in the 50s. Ignore the ads, forget your brand loyalty blindness and drive them all and then price compare because all brands have had lemon years and models. I have family who are diehard Ford and Chevy fans and as long as they make the payments they can drive what they wish! Btw Ford fanboys just this am a nationally award winning Ford master mechanic was lamenting to me that the components for Ford alternators are made Ford tough.. In China! Happy trucking y'all!

Everybody focuses on the Ram for those dashboard issues, but it really was industry wide those years..... at least on the domestic trucks. The early 00's Silverados were notorious for cracked dashboards as well. I had one and it cracked before the powertrain warranty had even run out. It's less of an issue now days, but I still opt for 303 protectant for my dash at every car wash now. Much higher UV protection than armor all. Not taking any chances this time around.

Everyone obsesses over who scores highest in reliablity, as if you either win or you are garbage. It's silly. The differences in reliability are very, very close. Statistically, 2.6% of Tacoma/Tundra's are still on the road after 200,000 miles. That's the highest odds of any truck. But that also means that 97.4% of them don't make it that far. Ram is sitting at 1.6%, meaning if you opt for Tundra because everyone says the reliability is sooooooo much better, you've only increased your odds of making it to 200K by 1%. It really boils down to this: If you want to make it past 200K you have to have 3 things, regardless of manufacturer: Meticulous maintenance, good driving habits/ conditions, and a worthy mechanic. Fail in any of those three and your goose is cooked. Lot's of idling and stop and go city traffic? That's bad. Idling kills engines. Only changing oil and ignoring all the other fluids? Not good. I put that to the test in my life. I used to own a 00 Silverado. Not high on the reliability list. But I took maintenance VERY seriously. Every fluid was changed on time or earlier. I washed the truck, including the undercarriage and suspension every 2 weeks, I planned my commutes where I'd drive the most non-stop traffic so I wouldn't idle more than I had to and I had a great mechanic. The truck had 310,000 miles when I sold it and bought a Tacoma. I fell for the Toyota hype. I said, "With this workhorse I don't have to be so OCD anymore!" I got lazy with fluid changes, didn't wash the truck as much, I'd drive a lot of city stop-and-go and eat my lunch in the truck, leaving it idling. I also used the dealer for all my work. That truck completely crapped out at 95,000 miles.

If there are 1000 trucks out there and there are 2000 complaints, then there is a big problem. If there are 1000 trucks out there and there are only 2 complaints, then there is not a big problem. It all has to do with percentages and complaints per miles driven. If I have one complaint and drove my truck 100,000 miles, that is not a big problem. If I have 100 complaints over 25000 miles, that’s a BIG problem. It’s all in the numbers.

I have owned my 2015 Ram 1500 Lone Star 5.7L since new in 2015. I have had two issues and both covered by warranty. First was drivers front wheel bearing went bad. Dealer replaced under warranty and did the pass side as well for me. Next was the fuel level sending unit went bad. Once again covered under warranty. As for interior quality, is has GREATLY imprived over the years. I was a tech for Dodge for a few years around 2000. Dashboards falling apart was sadly common. I did a couple under warranty because the owners went to Dodge dorectly and complained so much. I had a 1998 Ram 155 and a 2001 Ram 1500, both had crumbling dashboards. Another common issue was leaking A/C evaps. This required taking off the dash as well. Expensive for the customer if not under warranty. Overall the Ram has come a long way as far as quality.

I wonder if anyone else is having this problem I bought it 2016 Ram with 98,000 miles I've had it for 2 years it has 118000 miles For some reason my oil was low I have it the oil changed every time It started making this rattling noise like it would when you hear a Overheated radiator I asked someone today what it was he thinks it's a lifter or a rod he was really bad mouthing the truck saying that it was no good engine on Rams I love my truck it's been very good there was no indications on that truck ever to show that it needed oil and so my concern is why is this unless the oil place don't put the right amount of oil? does anybody else have this trouble and I'm looking for the warranty on this truck Don't they have to warranty the lubricant part of the engines and transmission How can I hold the dealership accountable for this issue?? Thank you

@@Pickuptrucktalk Oscar kept thinking it sounded like the radiator was hot so I never thought to look at the radiator because my other part that you put the fluid in they have fluid in I put 5050 in it and I never thought to put anything in the radiator when I looked it always looked fools so I turned on the truck and I let it circulate and I ended up putting almost a whole gallon of 5050 in the radiator so it's not making that noise anymore but it feels like it's having a hard time on the engine like it's heavy or something I don't know how to explain it I don't know what to do or who to ask so that don't get ripped off can I put it on a Is there a device to put it on to check to see what that could be I really appreciate you answering

@@Pickuptrucktalk The mechanic that looked at it was an electrician not a mechanic To give me understanding of that noise he was saying that it was push rods and lifters but it's not because it's not even making a noise I was so happy I was thanking God that it wasn't something serious the only thing of it is when I get to go around 60 it kind of shakes and feels heavy I don't know if I just need to get a tune up and new spark plugs and then it would be OK or did I ruin it too long without water I never had any indications to show me that I needed water and that's what's upsetting

Excellent! Nicely done, Tim. Since I'm new here, I'm dipping into these older videos, while meanwhile you are shopping for a new truck. Interesting to me is the takeaway from this video that the 'now mature' 2021 RAM 1500 model is likely to provide higher reliability. So while it doesn't offer the business rationale you are trying to meet with your purchase, the 'older' RAM model actually offers some reliability appeal to folks like me, truck shopping with a long-term ownership expectation. Thanks!

@@Pickuptrucktalk It`s kind of splitting hairs a bit since Chrysler Fiat makes Ram Trucks and Dodge brand cars as well. Thinking that Fiat can`t be a good thing for the Ram or Dodge brand with the kind of cars they make. The Truck market could be very lucrative if that do it right though. What do you think?
